This past Sunday was a blockbuster on the virtual felts with several players bagging the big bucks!

India’s most trusted poker site, PokerBaazi’s mainstay event, the Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack attracted a humongous field of 643 entries (381 unique and 262 re-entries) to blow away the ₹25 Lakhs guarantee by generating a massive prize pool of ₹32.15 Lakhs. Mayank aka ‘Maahi13’ juggernauted to the top of the field and collected ₹5.55 Lakhs in prize money after besting the likes of ‘milfhunter’ (runner-up for ₹3.87 Lakhs), Aditya ‘macchi1089’ Chaudhary (3rd for ₹2.70 Lakhs), Gaurav ‘gaug17’ Sood (6th for ₹91,306) and Anmol ‘anzzzzz’ Mehta (7th for ₹66,229) on the final table.

PokerStars seems to have turned on the aggression by moving all-in on mass marketing. Last week they signed in Bollywood actor Nawauddin Siddiqui as their first celebrity brand ambassador, following this up with round-the-clock TV commercials where Siddiqui was seen bluffing. A day later, they announced that GPL India Season 1 presented by PokerStars India will be making its premiere on Colours Infinity and Colours Infinity HD on March 9. Timing these high impact marketing moves, PokerStars India has also appropriately upped the guarantees for all of its featured tournament. And as expected the biggest boost has been given to PokerStars India’s biggest Sunday tournament i.e. the Sunday Special Progressive Knockout that saw its prize pool guarantee surge by ₹5 Lakhs for the second consecutive week. While the tournament guarantee had been hiked from ₹15 Lakhs to ₹20 Lakhs on February 24, it was hiked again, to ₹25 Lakhs this Sunday. The marketing efforts seem to be paying off, since compared to last week when 319 entries joined the action, the tournament this Sunday attracted a total of 424 entries (251 unique and 173 re-entries). Rahul ‘LaughingBoddha’ Sengar obliterated the field to take down the title for a hefty payday of ₹4.51 Lakhs. In fact, Sengar had an extremely eventful Sunday on PokerStars India, as not only did he win the Sunday Special, but he also went on to final table The Classic NLHE (runner-up for ₹27,105) and Sunday Stars (6th for ₹11,090).

PokerGuru Team Ambassadors also registered several deep runs on the virtual felts. On the heels of Ratul ‘MuscariAs’ Steves‘ runner-up finish in PokerStars India’s Sunday Special, Laksh ‘B00MTilt23’ Pal Singh finished eighth for ₹47,722 in the same event. Shashank Desai cashed ₹27,327 in the BSS SuperStack as ‘indianrat’ for placing 16th. In PokerStars India’s The Classic NLHE, he finished sixth for ₹8,944 as ‘GOAT-245’.

The winners of the other Sunday events on PokerStars India’s were ‘michaelksn1’ (Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹49,925), ‘rishbi017’ (Sunday Storm ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹39,272), ‘tuffcookie777’ (The Classic NLHE ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹33,536) and Hemant ‘314admiral’ Sharma (Sunday Warm-Up ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹29,060).

Premier online poker site PokerBaazi’s headline event this year was The Game Changer that for the first time in history of Indian poker, offered a whopping ₹2 Crore prize pool guarantee. Even though the tournament is well in the history books, Game Changer champion Prashanth ‘Iveyleague’ Sekar was once again in the thick of action. Sekar, who now holds the distinction of winning the biggest online poker tournament to-date in the country, had a profitable Sunday grind as he took down another major event on PokerBaazi. Sekar topped 220 entries to ship the BSS Megastack ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.08 Lakhs.

The other Sunday tournaments at PokerBaazi crowned winners in Aman ‘ageya’ Gupta (The Monster 6-Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD (RE) – ₹1.27 Lakhs), Anik ‘EagleSong’Ajmera (BSS PLO ₹5 Lakh GTD (RE) – ₹1.05 Lakhs) and Arunkumar ‘arunk8186’ Anandan (Sunday ₹1 Lakh GTD (RE) – ₹20,559).

Premier online poker site 9stacks crowned a winner in ‘BigBetMix’ for capturing the title in its signature event – Sunday Stacks. ‘BigBetMix’ defeated Sanjay ‘Werewolf’ Taneja (runner-up for ₹1.97 Lakhs) in the heads-up confrontation, pocketing animpressive first-place prize money of ₹3.15 Lakhs.

On fast growing site, Khelo 365, the headline Sunday events were won by ‘thesaint’ (Big Splash ₹75K GTD NLHE (Max 5 Rebuys) – ₹39,330), ‘Ladoo143’ (Deep Stack ₹30K GTD NLHE (Max 5 Rebuys) – ₹13,800) and Kolkata123’ (Bullseye ₹20K GTD PLO (Max 5 Rebuys) -₹9,200).
