Yesterday from 7 AM to 9 PM, India observed the ‘Janata Curfew’ as requested by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With an entire nation self-isolating itself, it gave an excellent opportunity for poker players, newbies and established names alike, to participate in all the exciting Sunday tournaments held across the premier sites. The result, you ask? Well, let’s just say that the guarantees of all big-ticket tourneys last night were crushed!

Starting off, we have Spartan Poker that closed out its massively successful Spartan Super Series (SSS) last night, and there were three flagship SSS tourneys on offer. Headlining the list was the site’s marquee tourney – the SSS #61 Millionaire ₹1 Crore GTD. The tournament pulled in 1,256 entries (586 unique, 302 re-entries, and 368 re-buys) that helped collect a massive prize pool of ₹1.25 Crores. It was a reg-infested field that saw the likes of Nitin ‘hoodlincs’ Jain (4th for ₹7.53 Lakhs), Chirag ‘chilling’ Sodha (7th for ₹3.12 Lakhs), and PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish ‘Donkey 07’ Munot (9th for ₹1.74 Lakhs) make it into the final nine. In the end, it was Saurabh ‘darksider’ Rohila who championed the event after besting one of the most seasoned pros in the industry Raman ‘tathagat’ Gujral heads-up to grab the Millionaire title, along with a juicy ₹23.46 Lakhs in prize money. This is the first live title for Rohila who has been playing poker since 2011. Originally from Rajasthan, he is currently working for an e-commerce company in Bengaluru.

Gujral also banked a handsome ₹14.24 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.

The Millionaire champion Rohila was in the running to claim the title in the SSS #63 Electric Big Daddy ₹10 Lakhs GTD as well, but ultimately lost out to Arjun ‘Don Julio’ Kochhar who came out on top to win ₹2.39 Lakhs in first-place prize money.

Veteran pro Nishant’ FunkyouFTW1’ Sharma was among the other podium finishers on Sunday as he ran past a field of 1,033 entries (467 unique, 219 re-entries and 347 rebuys) in the SSS #62 Sunday SuperStack ₹40 Lakhs GTD and pocketed the lion’s share of the ₹51.65 Lakhs prize pool worth ₹9.85 Lakhs.

Besides the SSS series, the Destiny 13.0 SnG Finale saw the 10 Destiny winners from the past 10 weeks return to fight it out for the three Vegas packages on offer. The last player standing was MTT specialist Anirban D’ pokernoob’ Das, who won the Destiny 13.0 SnG Finale for a Vegas package worth ₹3.70 Lakhs. ‘Dr House’ (2nd for ₹3.30 Lakhs package) and Anant’ Pro’ Purohit (3rd for ₹3 Lakhs package) were the other two players who won Vegas packages. Incidentally, Das also shipped the Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD on PokerStars India yesterday, for ₹56,806.

PokerBaazi’s Sunday extravaganza – the Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD – was a phenomenal success as it drew 629 entries (338 unique and 291 re-entries), smashing its advertised guarantee to post a ₹31.45 Lakhs prize pool. Well-known pro Vidwath ‘Qweasdzxc’ Shetty took down the event for a cool ₹5.94 Lakhs.

Over at Adda52, the Mega Suits AF ₹30 Lakhs GTD registered 857 entrants (440 unique and 417 re-entries), resulting in a prize pool collection of ₹42.85 Lakhs. The Adda52 Millions AF ₹20 Lakhs GTD also garnered a player pool of 354 entries (193 unique and 161 re-entries), resulting in a prize pool collection of ₹35.40 Lakhs. Harshit ‘hashstack’ Chopra took home the most significant portion of the prize pool kitty worth ₹6.23 Lakhs, following a three-way deal with Shravan ‘sweatmyass13’ Chhabria (runner-up for ₹6.22 Lakhs) and Hitesh ‘buntai’ Batra (3rd for ₹5.64 Lakhs).

PokerStars India has recently boosted the guarantee of its Sunday flagship – Sunday Highroller – to ₹20 Lakhs GTD. Last night, the tourney attracted 220 entries, generating a ₹22 Lakhs prize pool. Renowned pro and poker coach Akshay’ youcantcallme’ Nasa outlasted the competition and netted ₹4.30 Lakhs in prize money.

Shrey ‘pandeyshrey33’ Pandey championed the tourney to win the ₹3.23 Lakhs up top, after striking a heads-up deal with the ever-consistent Anant ‘Dr4gonW4rrior’ Purohit (runner-up for ₹2.81 Lakhs).
