What a rollicking Sunday it was! The second Millionaire of the ongoing India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) culminated last night. A massive 980 entries (Day 1A – 369, Day 1B – 255, Day 1C – 356) were logged in through three starting flights, leading to a roaring prize pool collection of ₹2.45 Crores. One-hundred and seventy-two runners (Day 1A – 62, Day 1B – 41 and Day 1C – 69) made the cut for Day 2, with 145 of them slated to finish in the money. Day 2 kicked off at 9.30 PM and wrapped at nearly 4 AM on Monday morning. Following a heavily contested final table battle, a five-way deal was struck at the end of which, Dhruvin ‘thepokerplayer’ Kothari came out on top to become the latest Millionaire champion, banking a colossal ₹36.77 Lakhs!
An MBA and Chartered Accountant from Bhavnagar, Kothari is a proficient cash game player who had won a Mercedes Benz CLA (200 CDI style) through Spartan Poker’s cash game leaderboard promotion back in October 2018. Kothari was introduced to poker in 2011 and has proved time and again that he is a force to be reckoned with. He fired an incredible six bullets on Day 1B, and his persistence bore fruit as he bagged the end-of-day chip lead. Kothari rode the advantage all the way to the reg-infested final table comprising of some of the biggest names in online poker. Nevertheless, Kothari held on to his nerves and, in the end, triumphed to become the first Millionaire champion of February 2020! In fact, Kothari also earned a 69th place finish worth ₹49,000 in the event, taking his total winnings in the event to ₹37.26 Lakhs.
Abhineet ‘bankelal13’ Jain, who had bagged the chip lead on Day 1A, fought hard to capture the title but eventually finished runner-up for ₹34.06 Lakhs, which happens to be his career-best online score to-date.
Young Gun Arsh ‘BigggTymeR’ Grover is perhaps one of the best MTT players of the country at present and is a frequent fixture on our Daily Majors and Sunday Online Railbird Reports. Grover had notably finished third in December’s The Millionaire Legends, pocketing ₹23.38 Lakhs in prize money. He placed third yet again in the latest edition of the same event, adding a hefty sum of ₹27.94 Lakhs to his ever-expanding bankroll. Incidentally, this latest score happens to be Grover’s personal-best online cash so far. Moreover, Grover also took down PokerStars India’s Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD last night for ₹49,001 and finished runner-up in the Sunday Special (L) ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹68,843. His cumulative earnings for the night stood tall at ₹29.12 Lakhs!
Former WSOP bracelet winner and India’s poker superwoman Nikita ‘Pterodactyl’ Luther finished fourth in the Millionaire Legends for ₹24.13 Lakhs. At the same time, one of the most endeared players on the domestic circuit, Anant ‘Pro’ Purohit claimed the fifth spot for ₹18.44 Lakhs.
With just a week left for the IOPC to conclude its successful run, the Millionaire extravaganza is not over yet! Starting from 6 PM later today, The Millionaire Main Event will grab the spotlight! Sporting a buy-in of ₹11,000, the Millionaire Main Event offers a colossal ₹3 Crores guarantee and will comprise of a never-before-seen eight starting flights!
