PokerStars has undergone a plethora of changes over the last few months, focussing mainly on its team pros and ambassadors. On the heels a few departures, the latest addition to Team PokerStars is the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) winner Ramón Colillas (cover image).

Recent Exits

A few days ago, news of popular Twitch streaming poker professionals Jeff Gross and Jaime Staples ending their association with the online poker giant had come through.

While Gross had stated that he was unable to come to an agreement with PokerStars, leading to his departure, Staples stated that even though he was parting ways with the brand he will continue promoting poker like he used to when he was a PokerStars Ambassador.

Latest Addition to the PokerStars Pro Team – Ramón Colillas

30-year-old Ramón Colillas has been inducted into a prestigious group of established and budding talent from all around the world – Team PokerStars. The young Spaniard whose initial claim to fame was taking down the biggest $25K buy-in poker tournament ever, will now join the likes of WSOP bracelet winners Daniel Negreanu and Chris Moneymaker, popular streamers Jason Somerville and Lex Veldhuis, along with Indian icons Aditya Agarwal and Muskan Sethi.

Colillas punched his ticket to the PSPC by winning the much-coveted Platinum Pass. The university student from Barcelona became the Spanish Poker Champion after topping the national leaderboard. Colillas turned his free chance into a win of a lifetime. Prior to this win Colillas only had four live cashes to his name. His present live winnings stand tall at $5,110,873.

On getting his chance to wear the PokerStars red spade, Colillas said, “I have fulfilled another dream. Champion of Spain, champion of the PSPC and now representative of the best poker room. Can you ask for more?”

It is certainly a big achievement for a poker player who is at a nascent stage of his career to be appointed as a Team PokerStars Pro and the uniqueness of this opportunity is not lost on Collilas. “When you start in poker you always think about Team Pro and wonder whether you could ever get there. I was still savouring the PSPC win and suddenly this opportunity came in. This is what you always dream of. The tournament was just the start. Now I’m more excited about this than the even winning in the Bahamas,” he said.

PokerStars Director of Poker Marketing Eric Hollreiser welcomed Collilas to the team saying, “Ramón’s journey is the stuff of legends and his humility, spirit and personality perfectly reflect the aspirations we see among young poker players around the world. Ramón is a great representative of the next generation of poker players and we’re delighted to welcome him as an ambassador for PokerStars.”

Upcoming Poker Schedule

Colillas will make his official debut as a Team PokerStars pro in Barcelona, where his incredible story first took flight. Precisely a year ago, Colillas won the Barcelona leg of the Campeonato Espana de Poker (CEP), which gave him the best start possible in the hunt for the Platinum Pass. The newest season of the CEP will start from this week and Colillas will undoubtedly be the centre of attention!

Following the CEP, Colillas will next be seen in the European Poker Tour (EPT) stops in Sochi and then Monte Carlo, before playing the EPT Open in Madrid. Over the summer, he will head to the World Series of Poker before returning back to Barcelona to play the next EPT stop.

Talking about his exhaustive poker schedule which involves quite a bit of travelling the latest Red Spade warrior said, “To be able to travel, to experiences cultures and people, that’s what I really like about live poker.”
