TIPS 2020: Munjal, Dawer, Samant & Dewan Make ITM Finishes in the SPF Main Event

The Indian Poker Series (TIPS) Season 3, in collaboration with the Spanish Poker Festival (SPF), is on the home stretch with the showstopper SPF Main Event now down to the final 17 players. The event gathered a massive field of 1,718 entries, generating a prize pool worth €359,062 (~₹2.80 Crores).

Among the 380 runners who qualified for Day 2 of the Main Event were a group of seven Indian challengers, namely Himanshu Dewan (550,000), Kanishka Samant (409,000), Avneesh Munjal (253,000), Manish Goenka (236,000), Jaydeep Dawer (197,000), Mani Singh Gurditta (107,000) and Pratik Verma (74,000). A tough day at the felts saw Verma, Gurditta, and Goenka fall out empty-handed. However, the remaining four contenders all booked a profit!

Yeray Maestre Perez is leading the 17 Day 2 survivors to the final day with a stack of 13,700,000.

Running alongside Day 2 of the Main Event was the TIPS High Roller and the King Kong event; however, not a lot of details are available for these two events at the time this report was published.

 

SPF Main Event

Day 1D

The fourth starting flight of the Main Event clocked in 411 entries (303 unique and 108 re-entries). After 16 levels of play, only 82 runners were left in the fray with Spain’s Madina Dominguez bagging the most massive stack of 778,000.

Indian challenger Sanjay Taneja was among the players reported on Day 1D. However, he lost a huge pot when his were bested by his opponent’s that improved to a flush on the rundown . Taneja was eliminated from the field soon after that.

Day 1E

Day 1E drew in 340 entries (245 unique and 95 re-entries), of which only 71 survived till the end of the day. Nitzan Orgad claimed the biggest stack of 889,000.

Meanwhile, Team India’s Himanshu Dewan secured the fourth largest stack of the day with 550,000 alongside fellow countryman Manish Goenka who managed to carry forward a stack of 236,000 to Day 2.

Day 1F

Not a lot of information is available on the sixth and final starting flight of the Main Event – Day 1F. It was a turbo flight that registered 255 entries, with only 83 participants qualifying for Day 2.

A total number of 1,718 entries were logged in the Main Event, generating a prize pool of €359,062 (~₹2.80 Crores). Only 380 players made it to Day 2, with the top 175 slated to finish in the money for a min-cash of €592 (~₹46,261). The eventual champion will walk away with a hefty €58,765 (~₹45.92 Lakhs) payday along with a WSOPE Main Event ticket!

 

SPF Main Event – Day 2

Seven India challengers, namely Himanshu Dewan (550,000), Kanishka Samant (409,000), Avneesh Munjal (253,000), Manish Goenka (236,000), Jaydeep Dawer (197,000), Mani Singh Gurditta (107,000) and Pratik Verma (74,000), were among the 380 players who advanced to Day 2.

Verma, Gurditta, and Goenka fell out of the Main Event race short of the money line.

Himanshu Dewan was the first Indian to finish in the money when his pocket cowboys were cracked by his opponent’s , ending his run in 119th place for €633 (~₹49,465).

Samant was eliminated in 106th place for €633 (~₹49,465).

The action continued for sometime before Dawer hit the rail in 47th place with Munjal following suit in 40th place. Both players collected €1,010 (~₹78,925) for their efforts. Munjal’s elimination also marked the end of Team India’s run in the Main Event.

By the end of Day 2, only 17 runners were left standing. Yeray Maestre Perez captured the overnight chip lead with a humongous stack of 13,700,000.

TIPS DeepStack

The TIPS DeepStack registered 345 entries (295 unique and 50 re-entries), leading to a prize pool collection of €37,691.

After getting eliminated from Day 2 of the Main Event, Mani Singh Gurditta and Jaydeep Dawer had jumped into the action of the TIPS DeepStack event, along with Allen Arun Bansode. Sadly, neither of the three players was able to cash in the event.

Russia’s Sergei Rozanov shipped the event for €7,555, after defeating Netherland’s Milad Oghabian (runner-up for €5,024) heads-up.

TIPS Big Friday

The TIPS Big Friday attracted 238 runners, creating a prize pool of €31,573, with only the top 31 players assured payouts.

TIPS co-founders Jaydeep Dawer and Manish Goenka had participated in the event but failed to cross the money line.

Spain’s Jose Luis Lopez Acebes took down the event for €4,581 after agreeing to a three-way chop with France’s Thierry Gabri Isarte (runner-up for €4,881) and Turkey’s Yakup Yavuz (3rd for €4,881).
