In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

If you missed the action, hang on tight, because another eventful week has passed by, with lots of momentum both on the live and virtual felts.

Indians had a good enough reason to rejoice with great value offered in online tournaments. The past week has been a rollercoaster ride, escalating the excitement in poker land.

The Macau Poker Cup (MPC) 27 has eclipsed the horizon of live poker tournaments and now, with the Red Dragon Main Event well underway, we can look forward to another action-packed week ahead.

Our Indian Challengers as usual are busy making waves in the eastern end of the globe, with scoring pouring in constantly. Nishant Sharma claimed the second Indian title while a number of other notable players made deep runs proving yet again that Indians are in it to win it.

September in the recent past has been most well-known for the WCOOP and this past week was no different. Despite a large team in Macau, the online felts have been ringing with several scores due to a BIG Sunday that just past by and of them all; Kishore ‘kishorvc’ Kumar wins our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title after taking down September edition of The Rich Race event on Adda52 for a cool ₹15 Lakhs.

Meanwhile, PokerBaazi’s flagship series i.e. PokerBaazi Premier League Special Edition also got concluded this week with Jaydeep ‘JDBhaiya’ Dawer shipping the Main Event for ₹11.4 Lakhs. The NLHE Highroller Event saw an incredible 162 entries and ’00megadraw’ took down the event for a ₹10.93 Lakhs payday.

In further live events, domestic poker buffs are in for a treat this week as India’s biggest live series Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) kicks off on September 13 and is slated to run till September 18.

Apart from WCOOP, online players will also look forward to the 888poker XL Eclipse series with $8 million in prizes starting this coming Sunday. With 197 events across the 15-day extravaganza, the buy-ins will range from $5 to $5,200.

Domestically Adda52 is in no mood to stop and has recently announced a brand-new tournament aptly named tournament – Sunday Suits boasting of an impressive ₹10 Lakhs GTD for a buy-in of just ₹2,500. The tournament takes place on Sunday, September 10 at 5 p.m.

In other news, we bring reports of brand new alliances as well as break-ups. To conclude, we have tournament reports from WPT Legends of Poker Main Event, WPT Brasil, 2017 WSOP Circuit Foxwoods and WSOP International Circuit in store.

 

Online Railbird Report

It was an adrenaline-charged weekend with several marquee events taking center stage across online poker sites both domestic and international. While the PokerStars WCOOP and Powerfest series on partypoker opened to record-breaking numbers, homegrown domestic sites too played out several big events.

Kishore ‘kishorvc’ Kumar shipped the September edition of The Rich Race event on Adda52 for an impressive ₹15 Lakhs and for this he is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

PokerBaazi’s headline series i.e. PokerBaazi Premier League Special Edition also locked up another bumber outing with Jaydeep ‘JDBhaiya’ Dawer shipping the Main Event for ₹11.4 Lakhs. The NLHE Highroller Event saw an incredible 162 entries and “00megadraw” took down the event for ₹10.93 Lakhs.

Akash ‘proFISHnal’ Malik won $4,603.45 for 84th place in the PokerStars ‘WCOOP-03-H: $1,050 NLHE [Sunday Million SE], $1.5M GTD’

Sriharsha ‘indiandurr’ Doddapaneni won $2,117.31 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘No Limit Hold’em’ and also won $1,388.00 for 4th place in the 888 Poker ‘The $15,000 Sunday Tornado’. He also won $1,801.18 for 31st place in the PokerStars ‘WCOOP-01-H: $215 NLHE [Sunday Kickoff SE], $300K GTD’ and won $1,400.00 for 3rd place in the 888 Poker ‘The $10,000 Tornado’

Kartik ‘pegasus’ Ved won $1,188.69 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$11 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $4K GTD’

Siddharth ‘sidddhu’ Mundada won $1,522.84 for 6th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $109, $30K GTD’

Rajat ‘OshoSwami’ Sharma won $1,330.65 for 14th place in the PokerStars ‘WCOOP-03-L: $55 NLHE, $200K GTD’

The biggest online poker extravaganza, WCOOP, which is also referred to as the online version of WSOP, has been the cynosure of the online poker crowd this past week. The opening weekend has been a massive success and the series has already crowned several champions and given away huge cash prizes. Top performers till now are –

Macau Poker Cup 27

The 27th edition of PokerStars LIVE Macau’s flagship tournament series – Macau Poker Cup (MPC) is running in full swing with the signature Red Dragon Main Event now well past the starting flights. The event has created a new attendance record with 1,308 entries across its three starting flights making it the largest freeze-out tournament ever to be hosted in Asia-Pacific.

A large number of Indian pros thronged the event in its starting flight with 10 players namely Sumit Sapra, Nishant Sharma, Manoj Pentakota, Prashant Jain Bhutoria, Mayank Agarwal, Saurabh Jain, Raghav Bansal, Akshay Nasa and Pradeep Nudurumati making it to Day 2.

Indian Challengers Update:

Deep into its 17-day schedule, a number of side events also concluded with Nishant Sharma clinching the second title for the country after taking down Event 10: HK$3,000 NLH event pocketing HK$65,900 (~₹5,39,342).

Prop-Betting Reality Series Major Wager to Air on PokerGO

Joey Ingram has joined a new original series called “Major Wager” as a host. The show first aired on September 5 on PokerGo. The series has been created by Poker Central and American producer Roundhead Creative Group and stars several poker personalities making absurd prop bets, with the losers of the bets forced to brave humiliating punishments.

 

Art Papazyan Wins WPT Legends of Poker Main Event

Season XVI WPT Legends of Poker Main Event attracted a total 763 entries and at the end, Art Papazyan defeated poker legend Phil Hellmuth in the heads-up battle to seal the title and a cool $668,692 payday.

Raphael Francisquetti Wins First-Ever WPT Brasil Main Event

The first WPT Brasil presented by Brasil Poker Live in partnership with Aconcagua Poker’s $475 Main Event attracted an impressive 3,386 entries and besting them all was Raphael Francisquetti who claimed the first WPT Brasil title along with $247,321 in prize money.

Jeremy Meacham Wins 2017 WSOP Circuit Foxwoods Main Event

The WSOP Circuit Foxwoods $1,675 No-limit Hold’em Main Event attracted a total 486 runners and topping them all was Oak Bluffs based pro Jeremy Meacham who banked $156,735 in prize money along with his first WSOPC gold ring.

Ben Bensimoun Wins Inaugural WSOP International Circuit Main Event

The first-ever WSOP International Circuit Main Event was hosted at Holland Casino, Rotterdam and registered 273 entries. Ben Bensimoun came out on top, pocketing €94,349 for his finish.
