Anyone following our Daily Majors updates will know that this week was all about the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC). Returning for its 12th edition on January 20, the series is off to a guarantee-crushing start and on track to blow its ginormous ₹30 Crores prize pool guarantee to smithereens!

IOPC completed a week`s run yesterday, and Ankit Bajaj headlines the fiercely-contested leaderboard standings with 5,466 points. Vinay Rajpal (5,297 points) and Spartan Poker user ‘NoConnection’ (5,141 points) are the other frontrunners to win the 1 Crore GTD leaderboard race.

Amit Kaushik was the biggest revelation this week! The upcoming poker streamer was a part of the massive 2,397-entry field in the ₹1.50 Crores GTD IOPC #24 – Blaze and chopped the title five-way on Sunday to collect a whopping ₹16.14 Lakhs in second place. And what`s best – he pulled out the smashing run while live-streaming his hectic grind across a marathon 12 hours! Proving that the Sunday run was no flash in the pan, Kaushik knocked out some other deep runs like winning PokerStars India`s Bounty Builder HR and placing third in IOPC #37 – Tuesday Spotlight. Sitting a very close #2 in the monthly/annual leaderboard standings, Kaushik posted ₹23.82 Lakhs in cumulative winnings, making him our “PokerGuru Star of the Week!”

Young Gun Kanchan Sharma grabbed all the eyeballs on Sunday for winning the IOPC #24 – Blaze on Spartan Poker. As mentioned above, she struck a heads-up deal in the event to collect a personal-best ₹17.99 Lakhs. She has brought two stacks to Day 2 and placed 33rd on the other for ₹60,784, cumulatively adding ₹18.60 Lakhs.

Young Gun Siddhanth Kripalani, PokerGuru Ambassador Arjanveer Singh Chadha, Young Gun Neel Joshi, PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja, Manish Lakhotia, Rubin Labroo, Harshad Barve, Ankit Bajaj, Amit More, Armaan Kochhar, and Anant Purohit were the other top scorers of the week!

Even with another 10 days of the IOPC extravaganza left to run, MTT players have the Asian Poker Tour India Online Series to look forward to. The third edition of the APT-branded series returns on Sunday and guarantees over ₹7 Crores across 43 events. There are nine APT Trophies and two Championship Rings to be won!

That`s not all! Asia-centric Natural8 will be running the Super Millions Week (January 31 – February 6), guaranteeing $40 Million across 42 events. Wait – there`s more, as the site also has another smashing edition of the Asia Poker League (APL) Online Series returning on January 30. The series will run all the way until February 13 with ¥80,000,000 in guaranteed prizes and 20 “Jade Trophy” events up for grabs!

The country celebrated its 73rd Republic Day on Wednesday, and online poker operators reflected the hues of national pride and patriotism by coming up with Republic Day-themed offers. MPL Poker and PokerHigh hosted special Republic Day tournaments, while IndiaPlays offered a deposit bonus.

In other news updates, the Mobile Premier League (MPL) CEO Sai Srinivas has reached out to the Indian government seeking a fund for up-and-coming online gaming developers to be set up to help the community grow.

The social gaming and entertainment setup WinZO onboarded YouTube content creator Ajey Nagar, AKA “CarryMinati,” as its brand ambassador. Nagar will produce gaming-centric content on his streaming channel “Carryislive.”

International online gaming giant PokerStars has entered a multi-year global partnership with Red Bull Racing ahead of the 2022 Formula One season.

Meanwhile, World Poker Tour (WPT) Season XX officially kicked off on January 21, with the WPT LuckyHearts Poker Open at Hollywood, Florida’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The brand has announced a few changes to its Player of the Year (POY) points system.
