In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker,’ we bring you the weekly roundup of the most significant online scores by Indian MTT players and the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week’s top stories!

As we enter the first week of February, there is a lot of online action to look forward to, and that too after a blockbuster January. But before we get to what is to come, let us first look at what happened in the past week.

Dominating the virtual felts this past week was Spartan Poker’s IOPC January Edition. Bringing the curtains down on the record-shattering series was PokerGuru Ambassador Laksh Pal Singh, who trounced the 3,985-entry field in the IOPC The Crown to win a career-best ₹51.81 Lakhs. For his incredible run, Singh is hands down our “PokerGuru Star of the Week!”

Team PokerGuru made quite the splash at IOPC. Besides Singh, who won the magnum opus IOPC The Crown, several other PokerGuru Ambassadors left their mark at the series. These include Ashish Munot (final tabled IOPC The Millionaire Legends and IOPC Super High Roller), Kartik Ved (final tabled IOPC Millionaire Legends), Naresh Veeravalli (final tabled IOPC Super High Roller), Parikshit Dhall (ranked #5 on IOPC Leaderboard), and Young Gun Arjanveer Singh Chadha (ranked #7 on IOPC Leaderboard).

Two-time Millionaire champion Sriharsha Doddapaneni was another player who went on a tear at the IOPC. The player did the unthinkable at the series by winning both the IOPC High Roller and Super High Roller in a week`s time! The IOPC Super High Roller title fetched him a jaw-dropping ₹36.89 Lakhs!

The only event left to play out at the IOPC, the IOPC Masters Table started about an hour ago and got off to a slightly delayed start because of technical issues. Laksh Pal Singh and Sreeharsha Doddapaneni, along with IOPC PLO High Roller champion Shrey Maheshwary, IOPC The Millionaire Legends champion Aniket Waghmare, IOPC Leaderboard topper Bhanu Prakash KC fighting it out to win the magnificent AVENGER CHRONOGRAPH 43 BREITLING customized watch.

This was a massive week for online poker, and almost a dozen other players banked seven-figures. These include Young Gun Arsh Grover, Yudhishter Jaswal, Raman Gujral, Anant Purohit, Saurabh Jain, Vishnu Khandelwal, Rising Star Ritwik Khanna, Vaibhav Sharma, Rajat Sharma, Young Gun Anmol Mehta, and Suresh Kolli.

PokerStars India’s mega-leaderboard race has found its first champion of 2021. The “Star of the Month” – January Finale took place on January 27, where Himanshu Dwivedi ran past the stacked 100-qualifier field to win the “Star of the Month” title, MTT tickets worth ₹1.15 Lakhs and a PokerStars goodie bag for his victory.

The Pocket52 Poker Sports League (PSL) Season 3 (Virtual), underway since January 18, has completed the first two weeks of its schedule. PokerDangal Kolkata Kings (20,900 points) has taken a significant lead in the team standings at the end of Week #2, followed by Deccan Aces (14,800 points) and MPL Mumbai Anchors (9,400 points).

Even though January will be hard to beat in terms of poker action, Spartan Poker has grand plans in February. The site will be hosting four Millionaire and Millionaire D’Lite tourneys every weekend this month, promising ₹4.40 Crores in prize pool guarantees! The Ultimate Value Series (UVS) will also be returning from February 8 to 14, promising ₹1 Crore in guaranteed prizes. Spartan Poker has also dropped hints of hosting the second edition of its uber-successful Final Table Series (FTS), with the details yet to be formalized.

That`s not all! The site`s weekly MTT schedule has become even more attractive with the addition of four new flagships, the ₹35 Lakhs GTD The Big Deal, the ₹16 Lakhs GTD Mega Stack Millionaire Bubble, the ₹18 Lakhs GTD Trending Thursday, and the ₹10 Lakhs GTD Futuristic.

BLITZPOKER, part of the Quadnet Poker Network, has rolled out a promotional set of February Dream Offers that are essentially deposit code offers giving away bonuses through the month.

Up-and-coming poker site, PokerDangal is hosting the second edition of its Race to Ace 2.0 Leaderboard. The promotion, aimed at cash games players, runs from February 1 to March 31, offering up to ₹15 Lakhs in prizes.

Among the other top stories that hit the headlines this week was poker diva Muskan Sethi joining the long list of poker pros parting ways with PokerStars.

Where Sethi left PokerStars, CEO of Adda52Rummy, Shivanandan Pare was elevated to the post of CEO of Gaussian Networks, the parent company of Adda52.

The Grudge Match of the century, aka the High Stakes Feud, between GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu and HUNL specialist Doug Polk, is near the finish line. With just 1,718 hands of the 25,000-hand challenge left to play, Polk has all but hit the final nail in the coffin as he currently enjoys a $946,085.32 lead over Negreanu.
