With the 2021 WSOP now in the rear-view mirror, the week`s headlines were primarily the breakout MTT winners! And wrapping up November in grand fashion was Young Gun Anuj Yadav! The 25-year-old poker phenom created history on Sunday by taking down Spartan Poker’s Millionaire Series #24 – The Millionaire for a personal-best ₹28.92 Lakhs (cumulatively), becoming the first player to win The Millionaire title thrice. But that’s not all. The reclusive poker pro also shipped PokerStars India’s Sunday Highroller for ₹2.55 Lakhs, netting ₹31.77 Lakhs in one session! Needless to say, Anuj Yadav is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week!”

Arun Sriram, Harshit Sanghi, Bhushan Sohani, Subhojt Roy, PokerGuru Ambassador Ankit Wadhawan, Pranav Khandalkar, Nishaanth Shanmughasundaram, Amar Mehta, and Naman Puri banked the other massive scores this week!

While Spartan Poker’s The Millionaire Series 3.0 kept the MTT action buzzing last week, the virtual felts are likely to witness a dull phase for most of December! However, the New Year promises to start with a bang with PokerBaazi`s all-new “PokerBaazi Classics!” The eight-day series is slotted from January 2 to 9 and comprises some of the most popular PokerBaazi flagships like The MoneyMaker and The Game Changer – guaranteeing a whopping ₹5 Crores across nine events!

But while there is still over a month for the “PokerBaazi Classics” to make its debut run, poker players should check out the MTT schedule on MPL Poker. The poker-arm of the fantasy giant MPL has made aggressive strides (especially in MTTs) in the last few weeks and is guaranteeing ₹45 Lakhs across all MTTs running on the site this week!

Speaking of India`s biggest gaming company, Dream Sports, the parent company of Dream11, closed an $840 Million (~₹6,252.2 Crore) funding round on November 24. The round was led by marquee investors like Falcon Edge, DST Global, D1 Capital Redbird Capital, and New York-based Tiger Global and hiked the company’s valuation to an astronomical $8 Billion.

Coming to the legal battle over the online gaming ban in Karnataka, the High Court held another on Tuesday. Advocate General Prabhulinga K Navadgi defended the government’s decision and the amended Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act 2021.

Moving on to the international sphere, the surge of COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic has created some panic, with EPT Prague and several other scheduled events either getting postponed or canceled. The 2021 WSOP Europe, however, is still running uninterrupted, although the 10 PM curfew imposed by the government prompted changes in the start and end times of a few events. Seven bracelets were awarded through the week, with Samuel Stranak (Event #4: €2K Pot-Limit Omaha), Emil Bise (Event #3: €1,350 Mini Main Event), Edmond Jahjaga (Event #5: €550 No-Limit Hold’em), Antoine Vranken (Event #6: €1,650 PLO/NLHE Mixed), Maximilian Klostermeier (Event #7: €5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha), Julien Martini (Event #8: €2,500 Short Deck Hold’em) and Sergiu Covrig (Event #9: €1,100 NLHE Bounty Hunter) bagging the prestigious gold hardware!

Online Railbird Report

Young Gun Anuj Yadav created history on Sunday when he won Spartan Poker`s Millionaire Series #24 – The Millionaire, becoming the first player to win The Millionaire title thrice. Yadav had brought two top stacks from Day 1A and Day 1B in The Millionaire and cashed through both, adding a personal-best ₹28.92 Lakhs cumulatively! He chopped the title heads-up with Arun Sriram.

What makes this feat even more commendable is that less than 30 minutes before winning The Millionaire, Yadav took down the Sunday Highroller on PokerStars India for ₹2.55 Lakhs. Rounding up a whopping ₹31.77 Lakhs to his Sunday tally, Yadav added a ginormous ₹37.42 Lakhs this past week, making him the obvious choice for the “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

Karnataka Advocate-General Submits Strong Arguments Defending Govt Ban on Online Gaming

On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court conducted another hearing of the petitions filed by several gaming sector components against the government’s ban on online gaming. Making his submissions before the special Divisional Bench, Advocate General

Prabhulinga K Navadgi strongly defended the government`s rationale behind the ban and the amendments made to the Karnataka Police Act 2021.

Citing online gaming to be a menace than alcohol, the AG emphasized the new amendment to be social legislation imposed to prohibit activities injurious to public health and order. Navadgi also stressed that regulating online gaming is a gigantic task. Since the submissions were incomplete, the hearing was adjourned to Wednesday.
