The week before Diwali was a firecracker one for online MTT players, with Spartan Poker’s inaugural Diwali Celebration Series and PokerDangal’s Diwali Dangal Series playing down to a scintillating finale on Sunday!

While PokerStars India`s Diwali Rush Series got underway today, the next few days leading up to Diwali will be relatively quiet on the digital felts, but with are sure there will be home games aplenty. Keep an eye out for our special feature to make your Diwali plans even more special.

But we’ll get to that later.

Talking about the week`s top online winners, Gopal Bajaj was the star that shone the brightest! The 22-year-old upcoming pro had a trailblazing Sunday, where he chopped Spartan Poker’s DCS #65 High Main Event title, netting ₹20.20 Lakhs (cashed twice) in second place. Bajaj accumulated an impressive ₹25.08 Lakhs across the week, making him our “PokerGuru Star of the Week!

Young Gun Ujjwal Narwal was another standout winner and wrote his name into the history books as Spartan Poker’s first-ever DCS #65 High Main Event champion, winning the weekend flagship for ₹22.44 Lakhs (cashed twice). In addition to banking the week`s single-largest score, he added at least ₹24.87 Lakhs throughout the week.

Aditya Singh, Anurag Srivastava, Myron Pereira, Aayush Arya, Buhr Advirkar, Ayush Garg, Snehil Aggarwal, Vaibhav Sharma, Sanat Mehrotra, and Raghav Bansal were others adding seven figures this week.

Samay Singh Modi has been the talk of the poker circuit recently! The actor-model was named PokerHigh’s The Player Hunt Season 2 champion earlier in the week, but the win seems to have motivated him in his online exploits. On Sunday, the poker reg shipped PokerDangal’s DDS Main Event for ₹3.80 Lakhs and made an excellent finish in Spartan Poker’s Diwali Celebration Series, ranking #2 in the DCS Mid and Low Leaderboards!

Live tournament action has again fired up in Vietnam with the inaugural Poker Dream Vietnam taking center stage at the Hoiana Hotel & Suites KHOS in Quảng Nam, Vietnam, and Team India has already picked up its first title! Kunal Patni shipped the VN₫ 10 Million buy-in Mystery Bounty to win the custom-designed trophy and VN₫ 353.25 Million in prize money (VN₫ 105.50 Million in bounties)!

Young Gun Shardul Parthasarathi was another Indian who posted an FT score at the series, placing fifth in the High Roller Freezeout for VN₫ 402 Million. The 28-event fest is already past the halfway mark.

The online felts are teeming with fantastic offers through the Diwali weekend. PokerStars India’s Diwali Rush Series (October 20 – 23) is back for its fifth run and guarantees a very generous ₹1.50 Crores across 35 tournaments.

Pocket52’s Diwali Poker Festival (October 20 – 25) packs quite the punch for value hunters. There are ₹50 Lakhs guaranteed across MTTs, in addition to ₹1 Lakhs GTD Dhanteras Depositors Freeroll, a ₹1 Lakhs GTD Terminator, deposit giveaways like a 100% bonus (capped at ₹15,000), and daily freerolls.

On Natural8, the Bounty Hunter Series (October 16 – November 7) is back for its second run this year and features a more extensive $50 Million in guaranteed prizes.

From the gaming industry perspective, we have two significant developments to report. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has affirmed that his government will repeal the much-debated Meghalaya Gaming Act 2021.

On a brighter note, Jaydev Mody, Chairman of Delta Corp Ltd., has confirmed that the IPO for Deltatech Gaming Ltd – a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian casino and hospitality giant Delta Corp, will hit the market by the year-end.

The Central government is tightening its reins on India’s burgeoning but largely unregulated gaming sector. After the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) issued a diktat prohibiting TV channels, digital news publishers, and OTT platforms from displaying advertisements of offshore betting sites, Sony moved to end its year-long contract with Parimatch. Star Network has decided to do a compliance audit in response to the prohibitory orders.

At the same time, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has identified 25 offshore betting sites to be blocked in India for alleged GST evasion and FEMA violation.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has taken suo moto notice of the growing addiction to online games among children. The court has asked that a PIL be filed seeking regulation of VPN applications, with the Union Government, YouTube, and Google as the primary respondents.

There’s good news for gamers. PokerStars VR, part of Flutter Entertainment, will be available on Meta’s Quest Pro headset when it launches on October 25.
