The first-ever The Indian Poker Series (TIPS) at the King’s Casino in Rovadov, Czech Republic has witnessed some exhilarating action so far, where after a rousing kickoff with the Welcome Event and Day 1A flight of Main Event on August 15, a host of big tournaments are currently underway and many more will take center stage before the series concludes tomorrow.
Action at Europe’s biggest poker room on Friday was dominated by the second starting flight i.e. Day 1B of Main Event that pulled in 87 entries.
The second star attraction of the day was a Special Indian Cash Kings – PLO €25/€50, a high stakes cash game that was live-streamed and became stage to some epic moments on the felts! Headlined by Jagdeep Singh (€48,000 – ₹38,35,437), a total of three Indians were seen booking a profit.
“The response to the Series has been fantastic. TIPS is first of its kind Indian Poker tournament Series in the European circuit and has immense value for small, medium as well as high stake players. The numbers have been overwhelming and we made sure that the best is provided to all our players right from accommodation to Indian food,” co-founder of TIPS, Manish Goenka told PokerGuru.
Talking about the live-streamed cash game, Goenka said, “The live streaming of the cash games is something which has never ever happened in India. Most of our medium to high stake players want to play with the worlds best renowned poker players and that is exactly what I provided.”
Evoking energizing response, all the side events saw their guarantees crushed owing to good participation numbers. The Indian challengers have been running deep in the series and many seasoned faces have been spotted in the mix.
“I don’t think that there is any Indian Series in the International waters with such arrangements for our Indian players. I am happy that at Kings Casino we could provide such immense value to our Indian Poker players, which is far better than any International brands in South East Asia and /or USA,” Goenka added.
The €200 buy-in Main Event with a €100,000 (₹79,74,500) guarantee ran its second starting flight i.e. Day 1B on Friday. While the opening flight had drawn in 67 unique entries and 18 re-entries, Day 1B saw a total of 87 entries, taking the total entry field from the two flights to 175.
A total of 11 Indians have already made the cut for Day 2 through the Day 1A flight and these include, Roshan Romeo Rodrigues (347,000), who is second in chips among the survivors, Sunny (221,000), Ankit Saxena (192,500), Durga Deepak (157,500), Varun Gupta (129,000), Gaurav Gala (113,500), Ashok Desai (101,500), Varun Ganjoo (82,500), Zarvan Tumboli (81,000) and Uday Patil (33,000).
Special Indian Cash Kings – PLO €25/€50
The Special Indian Cash Kings – PLO €25/€50 event was another chief attraction at TIPS on Friday. The high stakes PLO cash game was also the first-ever live-streamed cash game that featured Indian players and saw a number of our top pros tangle with world-renowned players.
While international figures like partypoker Team Pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Yair ‘The Wolf’ Bitoun and Leon Tsoukernik were in the mix, Indian pro Jagdeep Singh pulled out his A-game and won several big pots including an early double up through Wolf. In total he ended the session with €48,000 (₹38,35,437).
Five other Indians who put in time at the cash tables were Navkiran Singh (€30,000 – ₹23,97,148), Samay Parikh (€12,000 – ₹9,58,859), Sahaj Singh Bali (€4,000 – ₹3,19,619), Suraj Agrawal (€2,000 – ₹1,59,809) and Gaurav Gala (€1,000 – ₹79,904).
“Can any of us could ever visualize having our Top Gun Indian players and Highrollers clashing with Leon, Elky, The Wolf and so many such big names? Well, TIPS gave that platform to all our Medium and High Stake players which again, is first of its kind!” Goenka elaborated.
“To top it these games are rake free. What more can I say. Leon is a fantastic guy and under his vision we at Kings will strive to give the best to our Indian players.”
Another Special Indian Cash Kings game is currently underway.
“These games will be our flagship events of all the upcoming TIPS series in the near future,” Goenka stated.
