Cyprus native Christopher Philippou (cover image) came out on top in the 2022 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Cyprus Event 7: $25K PLO at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel, claiming his first major tournament score for a career-best $270,000. Philippou outlasted the 32-entry field (including nine re-entries) en route to claiming the title. Investment manager & poker player Talal Shakerchi finished runner-up for $190,000.

Christopher Philippou’s only other recorded tournament score came in an online WSOP event in 2020, where he finished 63rd in a $1,500 PLO event for $4,632. Philippou’s live tournament scorecard currently shows $270,000 in winnings.

A few days ago, Talal Shakerchi had placed fifth in Event #5: $75K NLHE 8–Handed for $510,000, making this his second series score. Despite not being a professional player, Shakerchi has $8,689,303 in lifetime poker tournament earnings.

Event 7 was running alongside one of the highlighted events of the series, the Event 6: $200K NLHE Coin Rivet Invitational. As a result, Event 7 was overshadowed, with no live stream or detailed coverage for the tournament.

The €25,000 buy-in event logged 32 entries to collect $800,000 in the prize pool. The top six places crossed the money line with a min-cash worth $56,000.

Final Table Recap

The nine-time WSOP bracelet winner Erik Seidel was the first eliminated in the final table in sixth place for $56,000.

After Seidel, Gregoire Auzoux joined the rails in fifth place and banked $72,000.

Up next was British poker pro Stephen Chidwick in fourth place for $92,000. This was British pro’s second FT finish of the series, placing third in Event #2: $30,000 No Limit Hold ’em 6-Handed.

Following Chidwick, Yuriy Anisimov was eliminated in third place for $120,000 to set the heads-up duel.

The heads-up action began with Event #5, fifth place finisher Talal Shakerchi having a healthy chip lead over Christopher Philippou. But Philippou turned it around and clinched his first live title.
