India’s most trusted online poker platform, PokerBaazi, has joined hands as Associate Sponsor with IOS Boxing Promotions to host an extravagant boxing event, the ‘Battle on Ship 2021’ on March 19. The event is being promoted as the first Las Vegas-style pro-boxing event to be held in the country. This will also be the first time ever that a casino ship, the Majestic Pride Casino in Goa, will play host to a boxing bout!

One of India’s leading professional boxers and RummyBaazi Ambassador, Vijender Singh, will be making a comeback to the boxing ring at the event after a hiatus of over 15 months. The 35-year-old boxing champion will be taking on Russia’s Artysh Lopsan, on March 19, in a super middleweight (76kg) showdown. Since turning pro in 2015, Singh has remained undefeated in 12 consecutive bouts and will be looking to continue his winning streak in the 13th match against the Russian boxer.

While live poker tournaments have seen a resurgence of sorts, poker players are still largely confined to the virtual felts. Though this is not a live poker series, the event is sure to allow poker aficionados a chance to enjoy some unhindered adrenaline rush as Singh and Lopsan take on each other in the boxing ring.

How, you ask, can poker players be a part of this thrilling bout? PokerBaazi will be hosting a ‘Battle on Ship’ freeroll on March 17 at 7 PM to promote this upcoming event. The site will be giving away two VIP packages worth ₹25,000 each to the lucky winners of the freerolls. The package comprises VIP Entry to the event, FnB, 4,000 Casino chips (Play Money), and flight fare up to ₹10,000.

All you have to do is deposit ₹200 or more using the code “BATTLESHIP” to win a ticket to the freeroll. The flight fare and entry are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Talking about the upcoming fight, Founder & CEO of Baazi Games, Navkiran Singh, said, “We are glad to offer our support to the Battle on Ship 2021 event as their Associate Sponsors. The Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh had signed a multi-year agreement with Queensberry Promotions through IOS Sports and Entertainment in 2015. Out of his 12 undefeated bouts, his last fight – also his 12th consecutive win – came against Ghana’s former Commonwealth Champion Charles Adamu. His match against Lopsan will be the 13th fight of his pro boxing career. It will also be his fifth fight in India and his first ever in Goa. He has previously competed in Mumbai, New Dehli, and Jaipur.

About his upcoming fight, Vijender Singh said, “I am very delighted to return to the ring. I am specifically more excited for this event as I have my fight set-up on a ship. It is something that has never happened before in India and I am glad to be part of this unique Vegas-style boxing match. It is an honour for me to be associated with PokerBaazi.com, a brand that has always tried to promote skill-based gaming in India. I have been connected to them in the past as well and couldn’t be gladder about this reunion. I hope my fans are thrilled too and I hope to win the match for them.”

Throughout the pandemic, Singh has been training at home in Gurgaon with his friend, teammate, and now coach, the former Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist Jai Bhagwan. He has also been taking help from his Manchester-based British trainer Lee Beard.

Singh’s opponent’s Artysh Lopsan, has fought six professional boxing bouts to-date and has won four of them, including two knockouts while registering one defeat and one draw. The 26-year-old stands at 190 cm in height against Singh’s 183 cm. Though the Russian doesn’t have as impressive a record as Singh’s, the bout will not be a walk in the park for the Indian boxing legend either.

Singh already has a strategy figured out on how to tackle the Russian giant. “He is tall, and I will take it slow at the start, but I’m confident of beating him nonetheless. Height is not everything, and in boxing, you need strength and strategy. I have experience under my belt, and Lopsan is still a kid,” said Singh on his upcoming bout.

“My unbeaten streak will continue after March 19, and I’m sure everyone will witness an amazing day of boxing. The tougher the opponent, the more fun to beat him. I’m pumped up and excited for this fight. I’ve started my training now. It’s mostly controlling my weight. I will not go too hard in the training,” Singh added.

Sharing his views on fighting in Goa for the first time, Singh said, “Goa is buzzing as usual. It’s always great to visit this amazing state, and I am already feeling positive about my chances during the fight.”

Not one to back down, Lopsan accepted that Singh is a good fighter, but he was also confident about breaking the latter’s winning streak.

“Vijender is a good fighter, but I’m here to beat his undefeated streak. I’m ready for him to knock him out in the early round. It would be great of beating him in front of his audience. I’m sure Vijender will have a very tough time in the ring while facing me.”

The first-of-its-kind professional fight will be held on the rooftop deck of the Majestic Pride Casino Ship in Goa. The event is expected to last for about three hours. Tickets to the event are available on BookMyShow.

The fight will also be broadcasted on Sony Network the next day as an exclusive feature on TV. The event will also be streamed live on BookMyShow online platform at a nominal subscription fee.

Don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind extravaganza and win your chance to witness this event in person by playing PokerBaazi’s ‘Battle on Ship’ freeroll on Wednesday, March 17.
