While the global poker community is waiting with bated breath for the offset of the 50th World Series of Poker (WSOP), the brand has now also released the 2019-20 schedule for its 16th WSOP Circuit U.S. season.
In a press release dated April 30, WSOP announced that the U.S. portion of the WSOP Circuit will commence “just one day after the summer WSOP concludes, with the first of 35 stops beginning July 17, 2019 at Choctaw Durant in Oklahoma/Dallas area.”
However, that isn’t all. WSOP also announced several updates for the upcoming schedule which includes the Big Blind Ante being used throughout the series at all stops, along with a 50 percentage increase in the number of players receiving a portion of the prize pool – from 10 percent of the entrants, to roughly 15 percent in 2019-20. Additionally, PokerNews will once again return to provide live reporting for all Circuit stop Main Events and High Roller tournaments.
Talking about the changes made to the schedule, WSOP Vice President Jack Effel said, “Changes in the past year were well received by both players and operators. This year, we complete our enhancements with Big Blind Ante becoming standard throughout all our events and stops, plus the decision to give 50% more players a portion of the prize pool. We are confident these changes, plus exposure on Poker News are positive and will lead to more excitement and satisfaction of the WSOP Circuit.”
Moreover, a list of new stops has been added to the 2019-20 schedule including Ameristar St. Charles, Horseshoe Baltimore, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa and Horseshoe Bossier City.
The WSOP is expected to offer a record 35 stops on U.S. soil during 2019-20, all linked by a points system tied to the WSOP gold-bracelet awarding, $1,000,000+ prize pool, season-culminating Global Casino Championship.
