A blockbuster weekend on the international sites saw some massive guaranteed tournaments go down the history lane. On the sidelines of the World Poker Tour Online Series that`s underway at partypoker came another major announcement. Looking at the overwhelming response of the ongoing fest, WPT and partypoker have extended their collaboration by announcing the first-ever WPT World Online Championships!

Now, this is not something entirely out of the blue as partypoker supremo Rob Yong had hinted as much in one of his tweets earlier this month. partypoker has confirmed that it will be hosting the WPT World Online Championships starting July 1. While a full-blown schedule is yet to be released, the 40-day long series will run up to August 9 and feature 15 Championship events and a host of side events!

partypoker even tweeted the news.

Over at the WPT Online Series, dominating the weekend action was the second Super High Roller, Event #32 $25,500 Super High Roller. The tournament logged in 87 entries and saw Canada’s Elio Fox capture the title for a whopping $565,500 payday, his biggest online score to date. The two-time bracelet winner is now also the second-biggest payout earner at the series. That distinction belongs to Charlie Carrel, who had won the series’ first Super High Roller title last week for $600K.

The other weekend side events were taken down by Viktor Ustimov (Event #31: $1,575 Eight Max NLHE for $127,520.25) and Gustavo Mastelotto (Event #28: $1,050 6-Max for $80,200.06). Vitor Dzivielevski, who had won Event #2 $215 Mini Knockout on May 3, claimed his second title at the series in Event #28: $109 Mini 6-Max for $22,230.

Meanwhile, the $3,200 WPT Online Championship $5M GTD has already completed two starting flights. Day 1B played out over the weekend. From the 782 hopefuls who came to play, only 127 made the cut for Day 2. Bagging the end of day chip lead was Argentina’s, Leo Fernandez.

Fernandez, who had won the series-opener Event #1 $5,200 NLHE for $409K, carries a massive 620,258 in chips to Day 2. The event has mustered 1,590 entries till now, already making it the second-largest Main Event in WPT history. With two more flights on the tap today, the tournament looks well on track to set a very high benchmark!
