Although not scheduled as part of the 2018 World Poker Tour (WPT) Korea roster, a Super High Roller event with a buy-in of KRW15,500,000 (~$14,000) played out last weekend. Besting the field of 20 entries, Ivan Leow (cover image) took the event down banking an impressive top prize of KRW132,300,000 (~$118,724).

Leow had to face Pete Chan in the heads-up match that saw the two seasoned high stakes regulars duel over several hours before Leow claimed victory.

The event was hosted after owner of Triton brand, Malaysian businessman Richard Yong reached the venue with a group of players in search of a high stakes tournament. The action began with 20 players registering to enter. A prize pool of KRW294,000,000 was generated and the top four spots made the money.

For Leow, it was another glittering win added to the achievements of a great summer in poker. Apart from several deep runs in various tournaments, he won the 2018 Oriental Poker Championship’s (OPC) HK$100,000 NLHE High Roller for HK$1,442,300 ($183,745). In August, he took down the Triton Super high Roller event at partypoker Millions Russia, Sochi for $1,133,555. September has also been eventful for the Malaysian pro who scored a fifth-place finish in the €25,000 NLHE at European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona for €98,000 (~$114,088).

There were many well known pros in the mix, including Sparrow Cheung, Danny Tang, Victor Chong, Michael Soyza and Pete Chen.

Final Table Recap

Action was very fast paced and towards the latter part of the day, eliminations cleared the field for the heads-up match. Prior to the heads-up, Danny Tang was eliminated in fourth place.Shortly thereafter, Michael Soyza fell in third place.

While Leow entered the heads-up battle with a slight chip, neither Pete Chen nor Leow was ready to give up their claim to the winner’s payday and as a result, the heads-up turned into a lengthy affair. The two players then agreed to halt play for the day, to resume action the next day.

The final day action was equally challenging for Leow who saw Chen back at the felts with invigorated determination and the latter even took over the lead. However, Leow eventually managed to overpower Chen and won the event.
