The third flagship event to run at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Online Series, the $1,050 WPTDeepStacks, came to a close on Wednesday with Britain`s Jareth East (cover image) outlasting the record-shattering 3,554-entry field to win $557,658.14, along with a seat to the WPTDS European Championship!

This happens to be East`s career-best to date, and it certainly didn`t come easy! He was ninth in chips, with 18 players remaining at the start of the final day`s play. He had to outlast seasoned regs like Phillip Mighall, Luke Martinelli, Joni Jouhkimainen, and partypoker’s Ludovic Geilich to win the largest WPTDeepStacks event in history!

East’s heads-up opponent was Jonathan Van Fleet, and the latter collected $392,717 for his runner-up finish.

WPT tweeted the result.

The $109 buy-in, mini-version of the WPTDeepStacks named Anton Yakuba as the champion after he bested the 1,317-entry field to win $137,396.

The series is just two days away from the finish line, and some headline events yet to play out include the WPT 8-Max Bounty Hunter $500K GTD and the $1,050 buy-in, Weekender $500K GTD that has three starting flights. Closing out the series will be the $550 buy-in Closer $200K GTD and the event`s miniature $55 buy-in version.

Event #40: $1,050 WPTDeepStacks – Final Day Recap

Only 467 survivors from a record starting field of 3,554 entries came back to play Day 2. Eighteen among them would make the final day`s play with Russia’s Maksim Bukreev starting out in pole position.

East managed to make it in the top 10 chip counts but was lingering below several bigwigs like Phillip Mighall and Luke Martinelli.

All 18 players on the last day were assured of winning at least $15,282 from the $3.55 Million prize pool, and the fast-paced action saw the field whittling down to the eight-handed final table before the first break of the day.

Final Table Recap

After Sergei Denisov’s exit in eighth place, East eliminated Mihail Zavoloka, in seventh place. The hand was crucial for the eventual winner as it got him the chip lead.

East went on to eliminate Rimantas Petras Boguzas next in sixth place, further consolidating his lead.

It didn’t take long before Phillip Mighall, Maksim Bukreev, and Dimitrios Farmakoulis all hit the rail in quick succession, setting up the heads-up finale between East and Jon Van Fleet.

The duo opted to play it out to the end, and Fleet took the early advantage after winning several sizeable pots early on to accumulate a six-to-one chip lead over East. Van fleet was the obvious favorite to win the title before Jareth turned the tables by taking down a series of big pots, leaving Van Fleet with crumbs.

About an hour into the heads-up play, Van Fleet finally shoved his remaining 15 big blind-stack with a flush draw but failed to rally up to East’s pocket queens!
