Robert Mizrachi won the inaugural mixed-game Dealer`s Choice event (Event #41) after defeating Aaron Schaff heads-up.

Event #39: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’Em

A long drawn battle on the third day extended the three-day event by one day, and the final three players returned on the fourth day to fight it out for the coveted bracelet. Sean Dempsey came in as the shortest stack on the last day of the event holding 1,660,000 chips, and defeated Ryan Jaconetti heads-up to take home his first gold bracelet and a six-figure payday worth $548,460.

A total of 992 players ponied up the $3,000 buy-in creating a prize pool of over $2.7 million. Apart from the three finalists in Ryan Jaconetti, Jacob Schindler and Sean Dempsey, the seven-handed final table included Layne Flack (7th), Nam Le (6th), Ryan Laplante (5th) and Ryan Olisar (4th).

Schindler entered the final day at the chip leader and was well placed with 3,860,000 in chips, however in a surprising turn of affairs, he was the first one to exit the three-handed final table. In what turned out to be the final hand for Schindler, Jaconetti raised to 250,000 and Schindler three-bet to 625,000. Jaconetti moved all in with and Schindler made the call holding . The flop of kept Schindler`s hopes high with a flopped flush draw. Schindler was all set to rake in the pot on the turn but the river blew his chances for a double-up as Jaconetti`s queen high kicker sent him packing in 3rd place.

Jaconetti then began the heads-up match against Dempsey with an over 2:1 chip lead but the tournament was not over yet. Dempsey was not one to give in easily, and after a few double up`s, finally managed to nail it with the pocket jacks over queen-ten of Jaconetti to win his first WSOP bracelet.

Italy’s Davide Suriano got his country it`s first WSOP bracelet this summer after winning the finals of the heads-up event against former bracelet winner Sam Stein. Suriano became just the 12th Italian to ever win the WSOP bracelet after Rocco Palumbo, who won it back in 2012.

Suriano has a successful track record in heads-up event, having won the UKIPT £1,100 No Limit Hold’em – Heads-Up in London for £13,970 ($22,651), but his first major score and title came in today as he surpassed a total of 135 matches to win the gold.

The finals against Sam Stein got over in just 36 hands, but the road to victory wasn’t easy for Suriano. On Day 1 he faced notable players like Scott Siever (round of 128) and Dan Cates (round of 64), followed by Serkan Kurnaz (round of 16), online heads-up specialist Ankush Mandavia (round of 8) and heads-up phenom Daniel Colman (round of 4) on Day 2.

Event #41: $1,500 Six-Handed Dealer’s Choice

The inaugural mixed-game Dealer`s Choice event came to a fitting close on Thursday where Robert Mizrachi came out on top to win his second WSOP bracelet. Mizrachi began the final day in the chip lead and worked his way through 10 contenders to finish in pole position.

The final day was not without its fair share of drama. All eyes were on two-time bracelet winner, Jen Harman who was hunting for bracelet no. 3, but was the first casualty of the day. The other lady in the field, Melissa Burr too hit the rail shortly thereafter in 9th place.

The changing dynamics of the different game formats coupled with big name pros on the final table made for an interesting setting to close out the event.

The elimination of Arthur Morris in eighth place, followed by Marco Johnson`s bust out, set up the six-handed final table. The first big hand on the final table saw 2010 WSOP Player of the Year Frank Kassela busting out in sixth place. Kassela`s final hand came in PLO with Aaron Schaff picking up his chips to collect over half the chips in play.

The next key hand on the five-handed table witnessed a double elimination by Schaff. Schaff eliminated both Daniel Idema and Bill Chen playing pot-limit Omaha and we were down to the final three players with Schaff holding a commanding chip lead over the other two – Robert Mizrachi and Shane Abbott.

Shane Abbott was the next one to go, when he lost all his chips to Mizrachi shortly after picking no-limit hold`em as his game of choice. Abbott 3-bet shoved from the small blind with but ran into Mizrachi`s to exit in 3rd place ($58,414).

Despite his win against Abbott, Mizrachi was still way behind Schaff in chips but kept grinding in limit games to collect chips. Mizrachi soon turned things around by gaining the chip lead and finally won the bracelet in the A-5 triple draw.

Robert Mizrachi is the eldest of four brothers – Eric, Michael and Donnie, all prominent poker pros in their own right. Robert has always been over shadowed by his younger brother Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi but with this win, he has immortaized himself as the first-ever Dealer`s Choice WSOP Champion!
