The last event listed on the 50th annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) schedule crowned another first-time bracelet winner as its champion. Britain’s Carl Shaw came out on top of the 608-entry field in Event #89: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em to win the bracelet. He ultimately defeated WPT commentator and former bracelet winner Tony Dunst heads-up to win the gold bracelet and $606,562 in prize money.
The sole Indian player to cross the money line in the event was Yasheel Doddanavar (54th for $10,382 – ₹7.14 Lakhs) who posted his fourth score at the series with this finish.
The final table was a star-studded affair headlined by 15-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. Hellmuth was not only chasing his 16th gold bracelet but was also the defending champion at the event! The poker brat was making all the right moves at the final table until he found himself at the receiving end of a bad beat from Dunst and settled for a sixth-place finish ($97,899).
Among the 92 places that shared the $2,827,200 prize pool were several big names like Indian-origin player Shankar Pillai (14th for $24,941), Kristen Bicknell (22nd for $16,582), Phachara Wongwichit (38th for $10,382), Stephen Chidwick (69th for $8,401), Danny Tang (77th for $7,798), and David Peters (92nd for $7,396).
The ten-handed final table commenced after Anatoly Filatov`s elimination in 11th place for $31,448.

David “ODB” Baker was sitting in the middle of the pack at the start of the final table, but he was the first one out in 10th place.
Kevin Eyster hit the rail next in ninth place when he moved all-in with pocket sixes, and Carl Shaw looked him up holding the big slick . Shaw spiked a king on the river to win the flip forcing Eyster out in ninth place.
On the 11th hand of the final table, Phil Hellmuth who was chasing his 16th bracelet eliminated Caufman Talley in eighth place with his prevailing over the latter`s .
Shaw eliminated Rami Mornel before Tony Dunst sent the formidable Phil Hellmuth packing in sixth place. Poker legend Phil Hellmuth was eyeing his 16th WSOP bracelet, but hit the rail after his turned straight was no match for Tony Dunst’s rivered full house.
Twenty minutes later, Shaw’s pocket queens busted Lars Kamphues in fifth place.
Just six hands later, Jordan Cristos hit the rail in fourth place.
Eliminations kept coming at a steady pace, and on the 61st hand of the final table, Luke Graham moved all-in with . Shaw looked him up tabling a better , and his eight-high kicker came into play eliminating Graham in third place.
Shaw entered the heads-up play holding an overwhelming chip lead over Tony Dunst, but the latter mounted an incredible comeback and even went on to take over the chip lead. Shaw put a spanner on Dunst`s plans by scoring a massive double up that crippled Dunst – and there was no coming back for him after that.
On the final hand of the event, Shaw announced all-in with and Dunst confidently called tabling . The board ran , and Shaw got there with a flush on the river to win his first WSOP bracelet!
