It was an exhilarating Saturday at the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) with five different bracelet events running alongside Day 5 of Event #67: $10K Main Event World Championship, and two of them played down to a champion!

Scott Ball topped the 26 returning players on Day 4 of Event #68 $1,111 Little One for One Drop to win his second WSOP bracelet at the series and $396,445 in prize money. The start-of-day chip leader Michael Shanahan finished runner-up for $245,068. Two Indian players were among the 229 paid in the event, namely, PokerGuru Ambassador Shuchi Chamaria (68th for $6,366) and Kunal Patni (170th for $3,278).

Mourad Amokrane joined the list of first-time bracelet winners at the series after taking down Event #71: $1,500 Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha for $132,844. The Frenchman dominated the final table and wrapped up the heads-up match in just one hand!

While the Indian poker community was cheering on Abhinav Iyer in the Main Event, many of his teammates jumped into Day 1C of Event #70: $888 Crazy Eights. The penultimate starting flight logged in a 1,907-entry field with 87 advancing to Day 2. Justin Arnwine (3,280,000), two-time bracelet winner Eric Baldwin (2,825,000), and David Lappin (1,940,000) headlined the surviving field. Indian pros Sumit Sapra (660,000) and Siddharth Karia (285,000) also advanced to Day 2.

Event #68 $1,111 Little One for One Drop

The Event #25: $5K NLHE champion Scott Ball bagged his second career bracelet almost two weeks after his first, winning Event #68: $1,111 Little One for One Drop for $396,445. The start-of-day chip leader Michael Shanahan finished runner-up for $245,068.

Ball was super thrilled to have won a second bracelet and later said, “I told my friends that are here that before the start, I feel like this isn’t the real-life. It’s like a simulation to be heads-up again for a bracelet in like two weeks. I’ve just worked so hard to get better at No-Limit this past year. So, when it peeled off, and I won another one, it just didn’t feel like reality. It feels like I’m dreaming, and I’m going to wake up tomorrow and be like, dang, I can’t wait to live that one day.”

Ball has a shot at winning the WSOP Player of the Year title in the No-Limit category with two bracelets. He seemed excited about those prospects, “I’ve really had my sights set on the No-Limit Player of The Year,” he said.

“I think it’s really hard for any No-Limit player to just play No-Limit events and no mixed events like I do, to try and get as many points as someone in the other events. Not that they are easier, the people who cash those consistently are just so much more consistent because I think the average player isn’t as good as the average No-Limit player. So, I’m really glad the WSOP has separated those two things, and I’m pretty sure this will put me into the lead for No-Limit player of the year, and I would really like to hold on to that. That would be really special to me. That never goes away; that’s a legacy thing,” he added.

The Little One for One Drop logged in a 3,797-player field across three starting flights, and only 229 among them got paid.

Jose Latorre (10th for $33,939), Oscar Alache (17th for $18,178), Ori Hasson (18th for $18,178), Lewis Murray (19th for $14,979), and Phuoc Nguyen (26th for $14,979) were some notables who busted short of the final table on Day 3.

At least six Indian players were reported in the event, and only two of them managed to score. PokerGuru Ambassador Shuchi Chamaria posted the deepest run from the team, finishing 68th for $6,366 (~₹4.73 Lakhs) – her second cash at the series. Kunal Patni finished 170th place for $3,278 (~₹2.43 Lakhs), posting his third score at the ongoing series.

Event #71: $1,500 Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha

French poker player Mourad Amokrane outlasted an 860-entry field in Event #71: $1,500 Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha to collect his career-first WSOP bracelet and $132,844 in prize money. Amokrane dominated the proceedings right from Day 1 and most notably wrapped up heads-up against Matt Mamiya (2nd for $82,100) in just one hand.

In the post-match interview, Amokrane said, “I have no words. I look at all the poker shows on TV. I know all the famous players, and getting a WSOP bracelet is something unbelievable for me. I don’t realize it.”

“It’s just a beautiful feeling. My wife is calling from France right now. She was not sleeping all night to follow the updates,” he added.

Amokrane was a force to be reckoned with in the event and picked up at least 40 bounties through the course of play. The only scare he got was in the early stages of the FT, as he later explained, “I had some difficult moments at the beginning of the final table. I lost a lot of chips, but I had really good reads all day, and my state of mind was just serenity. I was just waiting for the good spots, and I was patient. I just followed all my reads and all went well.”

The three-day event registered a starting field of 860 players, generating a $718,100 prize pool. The top 129 places min-cashed for $1,512. Only 15 finalists returned on Saturday to play down to a champion.

Popular poker vlogger Jeff Gross (7th for $17,712) and Nikolay Yosifov (9th for $10,616) also FT-ed the tourney!

Timo Kamphues (18th for $4,584), Rodrigo Maclean (19th for $3,866), Kenneth Po (20th for $3,866), Fraser MacIntyre (22nd for $3,866), and Alex Rocha (23rd for $3,866) were the other well-known players who made it in the money.
