WSOP 2022: Brian Hastings Rides Final Day Chip Lead to Victory in Event #31: $10K Limit 2-7 Lowball Championship, Bags Sixth Bracelet & $292,146

Brian Hastings (cover image) is now a six-time WSOP bracelet winner! The poker pro from Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, entered the final day of Event #31: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Championship at the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) as the chip leader and rode the advantage to the finish line to win the title for $292,146.

Only ten players from a starting field of 118 returned for Thursday, and it took 11 hours before a winner emerged. Hastings defeated Eric Wasserson in heads-up play after starting the final showdown with a 5:2 chip lead. Making his first final table appearance at the WSOP, Wasserson collected $180,559 for his runner-up finish.

“It’s awesome. I mean, I really love the World Series every year. It’s a lot of fun just trying to compete in all these events against great players; it’s an honor to be in that kind of company,” Hastings said in the post-match interview.

A well-known reg with six bracelet wins to his name, Hastings also already picked up two other cashed in the series so far and added, “I plan to keep playing a lot. I think I’m going to get right back in it tomorrow with the single draw.”

Hastings had won his last bracelet in 2021 and crossed $4.77 Million in live tournament earnings with the win. He is now the 17th player to win six WSOP bracelets!

Also making FT finishes in the event were former bracelet winners Daniel Zack (3rd for $129,670), Shaun Deeb (4th for $94,606), Marco Johnson (5th for $70,139), and Yuval Bronshtein (7th for $40,494).

Poker GOAT Phil Hellmuth was chasing a record-extending 17th WSOP bracelet and made it as far as Day 3, where he bubbled the seven-handed FT (8th for $31,552).

Andrew Kelsall (9th for $31,552) and Ali Eslami (10th for $25,009) were the other two players who returned for the final day’s play but fell short of the FT.

The only other former bracelet winner who ITM-ed the event was Farzad Bonyadi (12th for $20,172).

The top 18 places got a share of the $1.1 Million prize pool. Among the notables who made the payouts list included Billy O’Neil (13th for $20,172), Christopher Claassen (14th for $20,172), Danny Wong (15th for $16,561), Mike Thorpe (16th for $16,561), Jon Shoreman (17th for $16,561), and Jon Turner (18th for $16,561).
