2020 is the first time in over five decades when the World Series of Poker (WSOP) has put its annual summer Vegas festival on hold. With the COVID-19 crisis profoundly impacting live poker stops and international travel, the WSOP on Monday finally came through with the news that the entire poker community was hoping to hear. After hosting a record-smashing Super Circuit Online Series on GGPoker Network, the WSOP has extended that partnership by announcing an entire gamut of bracelet events this summer on the network!

The 2020 WSOP Online Series begins on July 1 and will continue right up to September 6. A total of 85 bracelets will be up for grabs at the festival that will be hosted across WSOP.com and the GGPoker Network. While the bracelet excitement begins as early as July 1 for players geo-located inside Nevada and New Jersey, the international version of the series kicks off on GGPoker Network from July 19. Players in India will be able to play the bracelet events on GGPoker or Natural8.

In the formal announcement made by WSOP on Monday, Executive Director of WSOP, Ty Stewart, said, “It wouldn’t be Summer without WSOP. While we are thrilled to be reopening our venues and optimistic about future offline events, we couldn’t be more excited about deepening our relationship with GGPoker and watching some history unfold online this summer.”

He was, however, optimistic that the live series would be hosted later in the year. “We are still hopeful the traditional WSOP may be played November-December and for all of our partners are considering this a brand extension versus a pure replacement,” Stewart added.

Reacting to the announcement, six-time bracelet winner and GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu said, “There’s nothing in the world like winning a WSOP bracelet.”

“Bringing this experience online will open the door for a new generation of poker players to feel the rush of competing for the game’s biggest prize.”

Negreanu even tweeted a video.

What to Expect at the 2020 WSOP Online Series

The WSOP Online will offer players a chance to win the prized gold bracelets across two poker platforms, WSOP.com and GGPoker. While more details on the schedule and guarantees are still awaited, we do know that popular live events like the Senior’s Event, BIG 50, and the MonsterStack will all be part of the online series.

All events will begin at 3 pm PDT, and headlining the series will be the $1,000 NLHE Championship starting on July 31.

The series also features a $100,000 Online Bracelet Series Leaderboard where players will get ranked according to the points they earn as they play, to be eligible for additional cash prizes.

WSOP’s official production partner, Poker Central, will be providing coverage for the events, including live-stream of events, highlights, pilot episodes, virtual bracelet ceremonies, and interviews!

On WSOP.com

The series officially kicks off on July 1, and the brand’s North American poker network will host a total of 31 bracelet events- that is, one bracelet event a day throughout the entire month. The WSOP.com will only accept players geo-located in Nevada and New Jersey.

On GGPoker Network

Right alongside on July 19, the official WSOP Online bracelet events will begin proceedings on the international GGPoker Network. The international series will run through September 6. According to the WSOP, this will be “the first time that players outside the U.S. will be able to compete for an official WSOP bracelet online.”

Talking about its continued partnership with WSOP, GGPoker’s Steve Preiss said, “With over $100M in guarantees during the WSOPC Super Series in May and more than $134M in awarded prizes, it’s clear that GGPoker and the WSOP make a good pair.”

GGPoker will be rolling out the schedule over phases, and while we don’t currently have the list of events, WSOP has announced that the online series will reflect a broad range of buy-ins and game formats.

Added Incentives

Making the series more attractive, the WSOP.com has announced several incentives and promotions, with satellites to the bracelet events starting as low as $1.

New players can sign up on GGPoker or Natural8 for a 100% first-deposit bonus up to $600.

What’s Missing?

The 85 online bracelet events are expected to mirror the WSOP’s live tournament schedule, but mixed-game staples like the Big Razz and the 2-7 Single Draw events are almost guaranteed to be missing from the lineup. The reason being that the GGPoker client supports only NLHE, PLO, and short deck formats currently.
