WSOP.com to Host $4+ Million GTD Spring Online Championships Series

The novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has spiraled into an unprecedented global crisis that has affected 206 countries worldwide, with close to a million confirmed cases and over 45,000 deaths already recorded. The entire world is reeling from the fallout of the outbreak that has resulted in mass lockdowns all over.

While this has brought business and trade to a standstill, even the poker industry has not been spared. The lockdowns have forced all major live poker establishments to cease operations resulting in poker tournaments either getting canceled or postponed. The live poker curse has been a boon for the online sector that has witnessed a sudden surge in traffic. This immediate interest in online poker has caught the attention of many prominent brands that have been quick to buck by shifting planned live stops online.

Even as the fate of the WSOP summer series hangs in the balance, the brand’s online site WSOP.com is not letting the unforeseen global crisis put a halt to the action. Coming out on the heels of hosting a successful WSOP Online Super Circuit Series that boasted over $1 million in guarantees, WSOP has announced its biggest series ever in the U.S., the Spring Online Championships Series. The series has over $4 million in guaranteed prize money spread across 100 events that are to take place from April 5 to May 3. With buy-ins ranging from $10 to $1,000, there is practically something for every poker player.

The Spring Online Championships Series overshadows the $3.5 million guarantee that WSOP.com had put up for its annual Online Championships series last year.

It`s important to note, however, that the series is open only to players residing in Delaware, Nevada, and New Jersey.

To get players warmed up for the mega-series, WSOP.com has put up a 4-day-long Spring Online Championships Warmup series that has 12 tournaments on the roster with almost $250,000 in guaranteed prize money between them. The Warmup series is already underway at WSOP.com since April 1, 2020.

The series offers at least three tournaments daily, most of them in the No-Limit Hold ’em format. Some tournament variants on the schedule include Freezeouts, Rebuy & Add-ons, Knockouts, Turbos, and Deepstack events. The headline event of the series, the $525 buy-in Main Event $300,000 GTD, takes place on May 3, 2020. In addition to the first-place prize money, the Main Event winner will also win a Championship belt.

The schedule also has two Player Appreciation tourneys scheduled for April 26 and May 3, respectively. Both of them guarantee $100,000 in prize money for a buy-in of just $100. There are some random prizes to be won at these events as well.
2 winners – $500 cash each
4 winners – $250 cash each
10 winners – $100 cash each

Other highlights include a $500 buy-in Special Tuesday Showdown $75,000 GTD, a few $1,000 buy-in High Roller events, and a $500 buy-in PLO High Roller $40,000 GTD.
