WSOP 2019 Daily Spotlight – July 8

In this daily feature, we will bring you the key highlights of the 50th World Series of Poker (WSOP) to keep you abreast with the ongoings at the ‘World’s Biggest Poker Festival.’

The year’s most exciting and biggest poker extravaganza is on its final stretch now with two majors sweats in place for Team India. The more significant of the two comprises of 10 Indians who have stormed their way into Day 4 of the $10K Main Event. The field is currently down to the last 1,286 runners – all of whom are assured to take home at least $15,000 (~₹10.30 Lakhs)! With a combination of upcoming and veteran talent in the mix, the next few days promise exciting action!

The other sweat has a much larger group of 25 Indians charging into Day 2 of Event #75: $1,000+$111 Little One. The last starting flight played out yesterday, and 14 Indians made the cut. Headlining this 14-player group is Aditya S (184,600 – 115 big blinds) with Rahul Byrraju (248,500 -155 big blinds) the frontrunner for the entire Indian team comprising of the survivors from the previous two starting flights entering Day 2. Byrraju, in fact, holds the 95^th largest stack among all 2,025 survivors.

Two other bracelet events kicked off on July 8 – Event #77: $3,000 Limit Hold ‘em 6- Handed & Event #90: $50,000 Final Fifty No-Limit Hold ‘em.

Event #73: $10,000 NLHE Main Event World Championship – Day 3

The day started with 2,880 runners that included a group of 15 Indians and mathematically Team India did better than average as 10 of them made it through among 1,286 survivors.

At the helm of things is PokerGuru Ambassador Kartik Ved (970,000 – 121 big blinds) who has with this run ticked off two off two Main Event cashes on his poker resume. Ved had finished 128^th ($57,010 (~₹39.20 Lakhs) on his maiden WSOP Main Event appearance last year and seems hungry to do even better this year.

Another notable Indian still in contention is none other than PokerStars India Team Pro Aditya Agarwal (138,000 – 17 big blinds). For Agarwal, this is his eighth!! Yes eighth WSOP Main Event cash! Talk about a veteran!

Among the unlucky lot to fall out empty-handed were Kunal Patni, Shashank Jain, Tarun Goyal, Abhishek Rathod, and Kunal Punjwani.

Leading the 1,286 Day 3 survivors is Preben Stokkan, and he will be resuming play as the start-of-the-day chip leader on Day 4 with 2,184,000 (273 big blinds) in chips.

Event #75: $1,000+$111 Little One for One Drop – Day 1C

Day 1C of the $1,111 Little One for One Drop attracted over 3,200 entries, and only 1,267 among them could advance to Day 2. A big group of Indians, 14 to be exact, have made it to the next day and the biggest stack among them all belongs to Aditya S (184,600 – 115 big blinds) who is placed 145^th overall.

Nikolay Fal (437,000 – 273 big blinds) sit on the top of the stacks amid the day’s survivors.

With the surviving field of the three starting flights combined, the field is now down to 2,025 players. Day 1A chip leader Leandry Ainonkpo will be leading in the rest with a stack of 726,600 (454 big blinds).

Event #77: $3,000 Limit Hold ‘em 6- Handed – Day

The event drew a total of 193 entries and end of the day, only 57 could carry stacks further. Leading the lot is Ron Carmona, who holds 142,500.

The top 29 finishers are assured to take home at least $4,571 from the $521,100 prize pool, but everyone is chasing the $133,189 top prize. Notably, defending champion Yaser Al-Keliddar (38,000) is still in the running.

Event #90: $50,000 Final Fifty No-Limit Hold ‘em – Day 1

The event registered 109 entries on its first day, and only 44 of them made it through. Topping the survivors was Seth Davies who holds a stack of 2,250,000 and is the only player sitting with over 2 Million in chips.

The event is aptly timed just a few days before Event #83: $100K NLHE High Roller and permits unlimited re-entry. Registrations remain open until the start of Day 2, so late entries are expected to expand the field further.
