WSOP 2019 Daily Spotlight – July 9

In this daily feature, we will bring you the key highlights of the 50^th World Series of Poker (WSOP) to keep you abreast with the ongoings at the ‘World’s Biggest Poker Festival.’

July 9 had six bracelet events running alongside each other; however, the one that got all the media attention was the $10K Main Event. Day 4 of the Main Event started off with 1,286 runners, and only 354 among them made it through the day. Among the 932 players who were eliminated on Day 4 were a group of seven Indians. While Ankit Ahuja (822^nd for $18,535 – ₹12.70 Lakhs) was the last Indian challenger to fall before the day’s play had wrapped up, the most notable player to finish in the money was PokerStars India Team pro Aditya Agarwal. Agarwal picked up a record eighth Main Event score, the only Indian to achieve this feat yet, by finishing 844^th for $18,535 (~₹12.70 Lakhs).

Team India Cashes on Day 4

PokerGuru Ambassador Kartik Ved had made his WSOP Main Event debut last year and was one among a trio of Indian challengers, namely Nishant Sharma and Vivek Rughani, who had made the cut for Day 5 at the 2018 WSOP Main Event. While Sharma and Rughani both fell out of contention before Day 3 this year, Ved has managed to repeat his streak from 2018 and yet again made it to Day 5 carrying forward a stack of 2,243,000 (93 big blinds). He will be accompanied by Yudhishter Jaswal (1,333,000 – 56 big blinds) and Akshay Nasa (670,000 – 28 big blinds) on Day 5.

Another event that saw a good number of Indians qualify for Day 3 was the $1,111 Little One for One Drop. Rahul Byrraju secured 937,000 (59 big blinds) in chips and will lead a group of six contenders to Day 3.

Team India’s Status At the End of Day 2

The $1.5K PLO Bounty also featured the trifecta of Aditya Sushant (215,300 – 134 big blinds), Kunal Patni (173,900 – 108 big blinds) and Minissha Lamba (100,700 – 63 big blinds), who advanced to Day 2, with Sushant carrying the 25^th largest stack out of 247 Day 1 survivors.

Event #77: $3,000 Limit Hold ‘em 6- Handed, Event #90: $50,000 Final Fifty No-Limit Hold ‘em and Event #79: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em were the other bracelet events that played out on July 9.

Event #73: $10,000 NLHE Main Event World Championship – Day 4

Day 4 of the $10K Main Event saw the field reduced further to 354 players after 18 hours of play. 10 Indians had carried their stacks to Day 4, but only three were left in the running by the time the day’s play had culminated.

PokerGuru Ambassador Kartik Ved secured a stack of 2,243,000 (93 big blinds) and has fellow countrymen Yudhishter Jaswal (1,333,000 – 56 big blinds) and Akshay Nasa (670,000 – 28 big blinds) joining him on Day 5.

A total of seven Indian players finished in the money on Day 4 which included notable names like Ankit Ahuja (822^nd for $18,535 – ₹12.70 Lakhs), PokerStars India Team pro Aditya Agarwal (844^th for $18,535 – ₹12.70 Lakhs), Young Gun Siddharth Karia (944^th for $17,135 – ₹11.74 Lakhs) and Romit Advani (1,005^th for $15,970 – ₹10.94 Lakhs).

Canada’s Dean Morrone (4,980,000 – 208 big blinds) emerged as the end-of-day chip leader and will lead the 354 runners to Day 5.

Event #75: $1,000+$111 Little One for One Drop – Day 2

Late registrations were open till the second level of play on Day 2 of Event #75: $1000 +$111 Little One for One Drop and the event registered a massive field of 6,246 entries, eclipsing last year’s attendance record of 4,732 entries. 2,025 players, who had progressed from the three starting flights, were seen in action at the start of play, however, only 412 runners remained at the end of Day 2.

Out of the 25 Indians who had made it through to Day 2, six successfully carried their stack through to Day 3, led by Rahul Byrraju who bagged a stack of 937,000 (59 big blinds).

Joining Byrraju on Day 3 will be PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja (826,000 – 52 big blinds), PokerGuru Staking’s Madhav Gupta (810,000 – 51 big blinds), Vivek Rughani (509,000 – 32 big blinds), Aditya S (411,000 – 26 big blinds) and Sanjay Sharma (180,000 – 11 big blinds).

Kunal Punjwani (468^th for $2,400 – ₹1.64 Lakhs) and Raghav Bansal (671^st for $1,692 – ₹1.15 Lakhs) were the only Indians who finished in the money on Day 2.

Four-time WSOP bracelet winner Shaun Deeb will be leading the 412 Day 2 survivors with a stack of 2,892,000 (181 big blinds) on Day 3.

Event #78: $1,500 PLO Bounty – Day 1

The tournament attracted 1,130 runners including several Indians. Riding past the day’s eliminations to make it to Day 2 are three Indian runners. Former bracelet winner Aditya Sushant carries a stack of 215,300 (134 big blinds) that happens to be the 25^th biggest stack amongst the 247 survivors.

Also making it further are Kunal Patni (173,900 – 108 big blinds) and Minissha Lamba (100,700 – 63 big blinds).

Leading the Day 1 survivors is Tobias Schwecht (419,200 – 262 big blinds).

Event #77: $3,000 Limit Hold ‘em 6- Handed – Day 2

Day 2 began with 57 returning players and played down to the seven-handed final table where Tu Dao commands the chip lead with a stack of 954,000.

The money was reached mid-way through the day, with James Little exiting as the bubble boy, guaranteeing the remaining 29 players at least $4,571 in prize money.

Event #90: $50,000 Final Fifty No-Limit Hold ‘em – Day 2

Just a week after taking down Event #74: $3,200 WSOP.com ONLINE NLHE High Roller, Brandon Adams is back in the news. Adams was among the 44 players who returned on Day 2, and he ended the day as the chip leader. With a stack of 11,970,000, Adams will get a huge headstart over the rest of the field including his closest competitor, Adrian Mateos (7,375,000).

Event #79: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em – Day 1

A total of 671 entries made their way into the event, and after 10 one-hour levels of play, only 148 players made it through to Day 2.

India’s poker superstar Aditya Agarwal was among the many notables who entered the event. Like always Agarwal shared updates of his progress on Twitter. The PokerStars India team pro chipped up to 20,000 early but then lost a big chunk of his stack when his pocket queens lost out to ace-king. Agarwal eventually ran his ace-jack suited into ace-queen to bust the tournament.

Bagging up the biggest stack in the field of survivors was Vlad Darie who has 284,000 in chips.
