WSOP Online 2020: Allen ‘Acnyc718’ Chang Wins Event #5 For $161,286

The COVID-19 pandemic notwithstanding, the WSOP fever has taken off on the virtual felts. The ongoing 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online series at WSOP.com handed out its fifth gold bracelet today in Event #5 $1,000 NLH Freezeout. It was Allen ‘Acnyc718’ Chang (cover image) who got his hands on his career-first WSOP bracelet in the tournament and a fat paycheque worth $161,286.44 after beating Philip ‘tomte’ Yeh heads-up.

Chang, whose previous best live score was a seventh-place finish at the 2010 Borgata Spring Open Championship Event worth $49,039, has $215,567 in recorded live winnings.

This event happened to be the first non-rebuy tourney of the series, and it kicked off at 3 PM PDT on Sunday. A total of 854 players paid up the $1,000 buy-in, making for an $811,300 prize pool. The top 126 finishers earned at least $1,622,600.

The event taking place on WSOP.com was open only to players in New Jersey and Nevada but still pulled in several top pros. Among the prominent players in the field was the only Indian with two gold bracelets, Nipun ‘javatini’ Java. His bid for a third bracelet didn`t last long, as he busted long before the money bubble.

The bubble round was a short affair, and it was Shawn ‘shades927’ Stroke who was the last player to fall out empty-handed in 127th place.

Some of the other known pros who fell out empty-handed included multiple bracelet winners Daniel Negreanu, Chris ‘camdi’ Ferguson, Kevin ‘ImaLuckSac’ MacPhee, and

Phil ‘Lumestackin’ Hellmuth, alongside Ryan ‘BiTC0iN’ Riess, Jeff ‘Mahakala108’ Gross, Jamie ‘DanBilzerian’ Kerstatter, Ankush ‘rickrosstheb’ Mandavia, and Ben ‘WhylsGamora’ Yu.

Making the money list was Ryan ‘Protential’ Laplante (11th for $8,680.91), Michael ‘itwasthator0’ Gagliano (12th for $8,680.91), Aaron ‘FrankDux’ Massey (13th for $6,896.05), Stephen ‘sixsixsix’ Jones (37th for $3,164.07), Event #2 champion Louis ‘PokeThese’ Lynch (50th for $2,758.42), Melisa ‘NJ_Melisa’ Singh (75th for $1,947.12), and Katie ‘katelin’ Lindsay (113th for $1,622.60).

The nine-handed final table was formed after the elimination of Greg ‘ClickingBtnz’ Himmelbrand in 10th place for $8,680.91.

Final Table Recap

Minutes into the final table, Quintin ‘AA_QTiP_KK’ Trammell 3-bet all in for 699,132 after ‘iseefoodtuna’s raise from middle position for 120,000. The latter held pocket tens and hit two-pair on the board to trample Trammell’s king-queen, and sent him out in ninth place.

Eliminations came swiftly after that with ‘charliefrog’ and John ‘Slapshot1085’ Forlenza becoming the next to fall in eighth and seventh place, respectively.

Even after eliminating Forlenza, Alexander ‘ShadowFiend1’ Condon was unable to sustain much longer. His elimination hand saw him run his into Chang’s . Condon lost the flip after failing to connect on the rundown .

The very next hand saw ‘married’ hit the rail in fifth place, his UTG shove for 1,417,972 finding a caller in Allen ‘acnyc718’ Chang.

Chang’s pocket pair held through the runout, eliminating ‘married’ in the process.

Philip ‘tomte’ Yeh further enforced his claim for the title after eliminating ‘iseefoodtuna’ in fourth place. The latter raised UTG for 2.278M, and Yeh moved all-in over the top from the small blind. The flop saw ‘iseefoodtuna’s find a pair of deuces, but it wasn’t enough to ride out Yeh’s that stayed ahead through the turn and the river.

Within 10 minutes, Chang claimed his second victim in Felipe ‘McBain’ Leme. Chang opened for 360,000 from the button, and Leme defended his big blind. The flop of saw Chang lead out 350,000, while Leme check-called. After the turn, Leme jammed for 2.342M, and Chang called.

Leme still had a chance, but it all came to a crashing end on the river.

The heads-up play saw Chang starting out in the lead with 9,323,288 against Philip ‘tomte’ Yeh`s 7,756,712. It was a one-sided affair with Chang closing out the tourney in just 25 minutes of heads-up play. The final hand saw Yeh raise all-in for 2.90M. Chang called it off.

Yeh was trailing, but the flop gave him a gutshot. The turn kept him in the chase – that is before the on the river awarded Chang his first bracelet victory!
