For someone who is semi-retired from poker, Fedor Holz (cover image) has been doing exceptionally well both on and off the felts. The GGPoker Ambassador and PokerCode founder was undoubtedly the most-watched player when Day 2 of Event #79: $25K Heads-Up at the 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online fired up after an almost weeklong hiatus. Holz was among the four semi-finalists from a starting field of 127 players alongside Spain’s Sergi Reixach, Turkey’s Oktay Kahyaoglu, and Brunno Botteon.
The German poker phenom took under two hours to defeat both Reixach and Botteon to win the bracelet. This is Holz’s second career bracelet and came with a $1.07 Million payday. Holz had won his first bracelet in 2017 in Event #67 High Roller for One Drop for a massive $4.98 Million.

As for Botteon, who earned a sizeable $622,300, this was his second runner-up finish at the series, after he finished second to Gregor Muller in Event #67: $500 Limit Hold ’em.

Day 2 Recap
Event #79 was the second heads-up bracelet event at the series, and Day 2 played out two rounds – Round of Four (semi-finals) and Round of Two (finals).
Turkey’s Oktay Kahyaoglu had entered the Round of Four, i.e., the semi-finals after defeating Michael Addamo in the Round of 32, and Stuart Wallensteen in the Round of 16 (quarter-finals).
Kahyaoglu’s clash was against Brazil’s Bruno Botteon, who had defeated tough opponents like Ole Schemion, Daniel Negreanu, and Dan Smith to make the semi-finals.
German high roller Fedor Holz had to get past Luc Greenwood, George Wolff, and Justin Bonomo to make it to the semi-finals. He was pitted against fellow nosebleed grinder Sergi Reixach, who had defeated high-stakes cash player Luke Reeves, Dmitry Yurasov, and Aaron Van Blarcum on Day 1. Both matches started off slow. Botteon won his semi-finals match against Kahyaoglu to face Holz, who eliminated Reixach.

Half-an-hour into play, Sergi Reixach lost all of his chips to Holz to be eliminated in fourth place. Reixach lost a large pot to Holz, and one hand later, he raised it to 2,000 on which Reixach 3-bet to 8,800, a move that Holz called. The flop ran , and Reixach bet 6,000, and Holz called again. The turn was the , and Reixach checked, Holz, bet 11,200. Reixach called. After the landed on the river, Reixach checked again, Holz fired a bet of 49,040. Reixach called pitting his tournament life on the line.

Holz had turned a flush, eliminating Reixach in fourth place for $311,150.
Bruno Botteon v. Oktay Kahyaoglu (Semi-Finals)
An hour after Reixach’s elimination, Oktay Kahyaoglu became the second player to exit on Day 2. Botteon had grabbed an overwhelming lead against Kahyaoglu and eventually dispatched Kahyaoglu in third place.
On the deciding hand, Botteon’s hit two-pair on the rundown to defeat Kahyaoglu’s .

The finals were set in just 90 minutes into the day with Holz and Brutton Botteon, making it to the top two. Each of the received a fresh 100,000 stack, with blinds re-set to Level 1 at 250/250.
Both players had sold off action for the event through GGPoker’s staking feature; Holz had sold 77.5% at a 1.15 mark-up, while Batteon had given away a sizeable 66.4% at a 1.05 mark-up.
Early into play, Holz scooped a big pot take the lead. Botteon tried to catch up, but it was all over within 15 minutes.
The final hand saw Botteon raise to 1,500, Holz called.
