On Thursday, Ryan ‘Im.sorry’ Torgerson (cover image) was denied the glory by Ron McMillen in Event #9 $1,000 NLHE 6-Max at the 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online. Undeterred by the close runner-up finish, Torgerson went back to back and finished one place better in Event #10: $600 NLHE MonsterStack. The victory got Torgerson his first WSOP gold bracelet and $172,361.84!

Torgerson seems to be relatively new at the series as his first and only prior official cash was a 30th place finish at the WSOP.com Season Finale a month ago. All of that has changed now since Torgerson has been inducted in the official WSOP gold bracelet winner`s club!

What makes Torgerson’s win applause-worthy is that he was one of the two shortest stacks at the final table`s start before two knockouts, of ‘Fatstax’ in seventh place and ‘letsgetit888’ in fifth place set him up for a deep run.

Torgerson pulled ahead to take over a commanding lead for the heads-up match after he most prominently dispatched Sam ‘texasmolly’ Grizzle in third place.

The tournament logged in a sizable 2,074 entries that included 1,505 unique players and 569 rebuys. The $1,119,960 prize pool guaranteed the final 330 players at least $895.96 in prize money.

Poker brat Phil ‘lumestackin’ Hellmuth was among the big names in the race.

He even scored a double knockout in Level 15 with his pocket sixes dominating ‘Belair’s five-four and Robert ‘RCM77’ Marsh’s ace-king.

For fellow bracelet winner Daniel ‘DNegs’ Negreanu, the end came in Level 20 when his all-in shove with pocket deuces found a caller in Ray ‘Raytrg’ Vilaman`s ace-king that flopped top pair.

Negreanu has been ardently live-streaming his run at the WSOP Online events and you can watch how he fared in Event 10 below.

The bubble burst in Level 24 with the elimination of Katie ‘katelin’ Lindsay in 331st place.

The two-time bracelet winning Indo-American Nipun ‘Javatini’ Java managed to cross the money line but busted in Level 26 after his pocket sevens were outrun by Michael ‘Ha8me’ Policastro’s cowboys. Java’s 177th place finish fetched him a $1,231.95 payday.

Final Table Recap

Around 12 minutes later, Nick ‘DuckFlush’ Pupillo found his ace-queen cracked by Eric’ Bill_luga’ Blair’s ace-king. The latter clipped a king on the river for a pair, sending Pupillo out in eighth place.

‘FatStax,’ Brent ‘grebnrets’ Roberts and ‘letsgetit888’ were dispatched in quick succession in places seventh to fifth.

Not long after that, Eric ‘Bill_Luga’ Blair was delivered a brutal beat by Brandon ‘Omni27’ Ienn before being eliminated by the latter in fourth place. Blair’s last hand in the tournament saw his pitted against Ienn’s . The runout gave Ienn flopped trips to bring play down to three-handed.

Nearly 20 minutes later, Sam ‘texasmolly’ Grizzle, who was on his first WSOP final table in 21 years, was booted out places short of the title. The hand in question was particularly brutal and saw Ienn raise it to 2 million on the button. Grizzle 3-bet shoved for 13.1 from the small blind. Torgerson 4-bet shoved for 37.66 million from the big blind. Ienn got out of the way, and the cards were tabled.

The flop was good for Grizzle, who paired his queen. The tide started to turn with the bringing Torgerson a flush draw, and though he never could complete it, a set of tens on the river was good enough for Torgerson to collect the pot, sending Grizzle out in third place.

On the very first hand of the heads-up play with Brandon ‘Omni27’ Ienn, Torgerson jammed from the button, and Ienn called for 18 million.
