WSOP Online 2020: Scott Hempel Wins His First Bracelet in Event #18

The 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online’s Event #18: $1,000 NLHE 8-Handed Turbo DeepStack gathered 697 unique challengers who rebought 290 times to collect a juicy $937,650 prize pool. It took almost seven hours for a champion to emerge with the Canada-native Scott “BudLightLime” Hempel winning the gold bracelet and the $181,060 up-top cash prize.

Hempel was making back to back FT’s having finished seventh in Event #17 for $22,250. He is also one of six players on the FT of the WPT L.A. Poker Classic Main Event, currently on a hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

With the top 143 finishers assured a min-cash worth $1,594, “twheeler68” exited on the stone-cold money bubble.

Prominent faces who earned a payout included Ryan “bitc0in” Riess (32nd for $4,219), Erica “huckcheevers” Lindgren (38th for $3,563), Ryan “joeyisamush” Depaulo (84th for $1,969), Phil “Lumestackin” Hellmuth (97th for $1,781), Event #1 champion Jonathan “art.vandelay” Dokler (107th for $1,687) and Roland “prngls12” Israelashvili (133rd for $1,594).

The shortest stack at the start of the FT, Matthew “EarvinMagic” Parry, exited first after he open-shoved with from the cut-off and Daniel “IntoTheRiver” Fischer looked him up on the big blind with . Fischer further turned an ace spelling the end of Parry’s tournament run in eighth place.

Almost immediately after that, Harrison “harrisond33” Dobin opened from the button with and Scott “BudLightLime” Hempel 3-bet with pocket kings. Dobin four-bet jammed and Hempel snap-called. No help for Dobin on the blank board caused his exit in seventh place.

Less than 10 minutes later, 21-year-old Landon “ActionDealer” Tice fell out in sixth place when his lost out to the of “GoatMaster.”

After that, Barry “puigmyfriend” Hutter’s couldn’t prevail over Hempel’s as the latter clipped a straight to bring the play down to four-handed.

Within five minutes, Daniel “IntoTheRiver” Fischer’s exit got the tournament three-way. The hand in question saw Hempel open-shoving with , and Fischer called with . Hempel hit a flush on the runout to eliminate Fischer.

Next up, Hempel took out “GoatMaster” as the latter jammed with and Hempel called with . Hempel got lucky again and flopped a three-of-a-kind to take down the hand.

The heads-up began with Hempel holding a massive 24 Million against the 15.5 Million of Myles “Shipthemoney” Kotler. All it took were 15 minutes for the event to wrap up.

On the final hand of the event, Hempel picked up pocket tens and open-shoved and Kotler called with . No king appeared on the board, and just like that, Hempel claimed his first WSOP bracelet and $181,060 in prize money!
