Yesterday was, without a doubt, one of the massive Sundays for online poker players. It was just one of those days when several marquee domestic online stops like the IOPC, APF, and IMPS were winding down. Co-incidentally, even at the 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online series, there was more than the usual rush as GGPoker, Natural8 and WSOP.com hosted no less than seven bracelet events between them.
One of these tourneys was Event #40: $2,500 PLO. This was the third PLO event on the WSOP’s GGPoker schedule, and with 532 entries joining the action, the event collected $1,263,500 in the prize pool. Walking away with the bragging rights and his first-ever WSOP bracelet was Sweden’s Simon Lofberg (cover image). He defeated Norway`s Andreas Torbergsen heads-up to pocket the winner’s prize worth $224,493.
Two other bracelet events have played down to the final table. Singapore’s Lai ‘fisherman90’ Sisheng (36,651,368) is in the driver’s seat on the nine-handed FT in Event #41: $400 Colossus. In Event #42: $400 PLOUSS, Brazil’s Yuri Dzivielevski (51,590,103) sits with the overnight chip lead.
Indian participation in the online series has started to bear fruit as several players posted deep runs on Sunday. While Abhinav Iyer`s fourth-place finish in Event #33 was the talk of the circuit, many others posted decent runs as well. An anonymous player ‘5cardPLO’ (16th for $11,334 – ₹8.47 Lakhs) cashed in Event #40, but fellow countryman Naman ‘pokermafiaa’ Madan wasn’t so lucky and busted out of the money.
In Event #41, at least three Indian players posted finishes. This included ‘raavan’ (15th for $20,594 – ₹15.39 Lakhs), ‘machii’ (21st for $14,680 – ₹10.97 Lakhs), and ‘Grinder41500’ (24th for $10,465 – ₹7.82 Lakhs). Neel ‘Neel’ Joshi was also reported as playing the event but presumably hit the rail empty-handed.
Coming back to Event #40, the final 71 players were guaranteed a min-cash of $5,877, and the pace of eliminations quickened after the bubble burst in Level 18.
Former bracelet winners Joao Vieira (18th for $9,106), Mike Leah (32nd for $7,315), and Philip ‘Respect!’ Long (33rd for $7,315), Patrik ‘Magicpsilo’ Antonius (48th for $5,877), Mike McDonald (50th for $5,877), and Jake ‘YogiNelly’ Schwartz (55th for $5,877) were among the prominent ITM finishers.
‘Ross_Geller’ (10th for $14,108) and ‘Brahman33’ (9th for $18,708) were simultaneously dispatched from separate tables leaving only eight players for the final table.
Final Table Recap
Early on, Benjamin ‘dr100percent’ Juhasz was eliminated in eighth place, with Paul Teoh following him in seventh place.
Less than five minutes later, Tsoukernik eliminated Arvi ‘Catman777’ Vainionkulma in sixth place.
The finalists went on a short break, and shortly after they returned, Sai Wah ‘sws79’ Shek was eliminated by Andreas Torbergsen in fifth place.
Torbergsen next set his sights on King’s Casino owner Leon Tsoukernik, who had to settle for a fourth place payout. It was Tsoukernik’s pitted against Torbergsen’s . The runout saw Torbergsen hit two-pair on the river.
Shyngis ‘somebodyelse’ Satubayev`s elimination in third place set the heads-up in motion between Andreas Torbergsen and Lofberg. Both were neck-to-neck at that point before Lofberg pulled ahead to take a commanding chip lead, eventually taking it down in a hand where on the flop , Lofberg jammed, and Torbergsen made the call.
