The 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online series has been the talk of poker town for much of June. After confirming that players’ real names will be revealed on the final tables, GGPoker unveiled the complete schedule of the series last night.
To make up for the annual summer series not taking place in Las Vegas in May, WSOP is hosting 85 gold bracelet events online from July 1 to September 6. While 31 events are being held on WSOP.com and can be played by Nevada and New Jersey participants, the remaining 54 bracelet events will be held on international-facing online site GGPoker and its kin Natural8.

The Events to Watch Out For
The pièce de résistance of the series will indubitably be the $5,000 buy-in No Limit Hold ’em Main Event, which will feature a record-breaking $25,000,000 guaranteed prize pool! The largest prize pool in online poker tournament history before this was at the 2018 partypoker MILLIONS, which paid out $21,780,000. The multi-flight WSOP Online Main Event will take over that record when it runs on August 16.
Talking about the Main Event, Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the WSOP, said, “We knew GGPoker would go BIG on the WSOP Online Series, but this is ridiculous. The single biggest guarantee in the history of online poker is exactly what this once-in-a-lifetime event deserves.”
The most massive guarantees outside of the Main Event belong to the $25,000 buy-in NLH Poker Players Championship $10 Million GTD, the $500 buy-in Mini Main Event $5 Million GTD and the $1,500 buy-in MILLIONAIRE MAKER $5 Million GTD. The winner of the MILLIONAIRE MAKER is assured to take home $1 Million in the top prize.
Besides the big guarantee events, another equally exciting tournament to watch for will be the BIG 50 that with its entry fees of $50 is the lowest buy-in WSOP bracelet event ever!
Another headline event on the schedule is the $1,111 buy-in Every 1 for COVID Relief [Caesars Cares] tourney, wherein 100% of the $111 fee will be donated towards the Caesars Care Fund. The organization is an assistance fund that has been established to support team members at the company’s properties across the U.S. who suffer unanticipated hardships, including during the closure of Caesars properties as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
One of the surprising additions to the schedule is the four ‘People’s Choice Bracelet Events,’ with players able to vote for which event they want to see for Events #47-50. Two events are down as being decided by ‘Most Popular’ with the other two down to ‘Pros Vote’ and ‘Spin the Wheel’.
The present schedule has only revealed the guarantees of 12 events and the combined prize pool guarantees have already surpassed $60 Million!
Streaming Extravaganza
The WSOP Online Series will be one of the most extensively streamed online poker series ever! There were also 12 events announced whose final tables will be streamed on GGPoker.TV and Poker Central.
Players who make WSOP Online event final tables will be required to play under their real name, as well as the real names of all players that win cash prizes will be made available by GGPoker.

Team Indian at the WSOP
Team India has an eventful history at the WSOP. Indian players have won at least one gold bracelet at the annual series every year the last three times. It started off with the dynamic duo of Aditya Sushant and Nipun Java, who claimed the Tag Team title in 2017 for $150,637. The following year Nikita Luther became the very first female Indian poker pro to clinch the gold in the Tag Team event for $175,805 (~₹1.20 Crores) with her partner German pro Guiseppe Pantaleo. Last year, Young Gun Abhinav Iyer became the first Indian to claim a solo gold bracelet in The Closer for $565,346 (~₹3.87 Crores)!
Since the lockdown commenced towards the end of March, online poker in India has been on an all-time high. The field is more competitive than ever before, with big guarantee events being launched every day. It is safe to say that the Indian contingent will be coming into the WSOP Online series nicely warmed up and will be a force to be reckoned with.
Expectations From the Series
The first-ever WSOP Online series is undoubtedly going to be a never-seen-before extravaganza. According to reports, GGPoker will run a series of micro and low stake qualifying events leading up to July 19, giving all players no matter the size of their bankroll the opportunity to target a WSOP bracelet.
GGPoker Ambassador and six-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu, who is in the hunt for his seventh bracelet, shared his excitement regarding the upcoming series. “This reminds me of poker’s boom years. Anyone who has dreamed of winning a real WSOP bracelet can now do so across the globe. There’s no feeling like winning a WSOP bracelet, and GGPoker is opening that opportunity to the masses.”
Negreanu’s fellow GGPoker Ambassador and former bracelet winner, Fedor Holz, said, “The ability to compete for WSOP bracelets – the ultimate prize in poker – from home is so amazing. The big events will be full of players from all over the world; Europe, Canada, South America, and everywhere else – the WSOP action will be scorching hot this summer!”
It’s definitely going to be an amazing two months for poker lovers all over the world!
