After WSOP, Even Venetian Resort Las Vegas Postpones DeepStack Championship Poker Series

Just a little over a week after the World Series of Poker (WSOP) came out with the news that most in the poker community was already expecting, we have official word on another major Vegas series pushing back its dates.

The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas, last week, postponed its marquee DeepStack Championship Poker Series. Initially slated to run from May 4 – July 26, the schedule featured an action-packed 144 events with buy-ins ranging from $200-$5,000. The series is widely considered to be the second most prestigious live tournament series to take place in Vegas every summer, behind only the WSOP.

Like the WSOP, even the Venetian has left word that the new schedule would be released at a later date, possibly since a lot of factors most prominently the COVID-19 situation will need to be factored in before deciding an alternate schedule.

The global health emergency has led to similar announcements the world over. It has been several weeks now that all casinos in Las Vegas, including the popular ones like the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, the Venetian, the Aria, the Bellagio, Golden Nugget, and Caesars Palace have been forced to close.

Earlier this week, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak did share plans for reopening the state economy but could not share the timeline for the reopening of casinos.

Even the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has stated that the new health and safety policies would need to be implemented by the casinos to resume gaming operations. According to the new guidelines, a maximum of four players will be allowed at a poker table that could throw up a lot of logistical issues in hosting massive field tournaments.

For now, it will be safe to assume that there won’t be any live poker tournaments taking place in Las Vegas any time soon!
