The two-day-long Event #13: €2,500 Short Deck at the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) was a grueling affair, lasting all of 13 hours before crowning a champion. When the proceedings got done with, it was Australia’s Kahle Burns (cover image) taking up the podium yet again. Burns had only three days back, won his first WSOP gold bracelet in Event #8 €25,500 Platinum High Roller NLHE for €596,883. The winning streak for Burns seems to continue, and even though he had little experience in the short deck format, that did not keep him from topping the field of 179 entries to win the bracelet & €101,843 in prize money.

“It’s been like a whirlwind week. Two bracelets in a week. It’s crazy. Lucky enough to win one live tournament in a week, now I’ve won two in a week, it’s quite fortunate,” said Burns after the event got over.

“This feels like one of those days where I’ve avoided all the coolers and all the post flop coolers. Obviously I won a few all ins on the way, just ran super good, no complaints,” he added.

The opening day attracted 147 entries that had 64 unique players and 82 re-entries. Only 35 among them were successful in advancing to Day 2, which saw another 32 more registrations to make for a 179-strong field.

The event paid out the final 27 finishers a min-cash of €1,841 from the €391,115 prize pool and some known names who made it in the money were Benny Glaser (9th for €8,322), John Cynn (11th for €6,505), Sam Higgs (12th for €6,505), Laszlo Bujtas (16th for €5,228), Phil Ivey (18th for €5,228), Ryan Riess (21st for €4,323) and Julien Martini (26th for €3,682).

Six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu had entered on Day 2 and fired two bullets but failed on both attempts. Danny Tang, Chris Ferguson, and Anthony Zinno were among the other notable pros who hit the rail short of the money line.

The bubble round was brief, and with Tony G and Ismael Bojang both knocked out simultaneously at different tables, they split the 27th place payout, taking home €1,841 each.

Hokyiu Lee (8th for €10,939) was the last one to fall out before the final table commenced.

Final Table Recap

After losing a big chunk of his stack to Federico Anselmi early on, Pierre Neuville was down to crumbs and soon lost his tournament life in seventh place.

Around two hours later, Oshri Lahmani lost all his chips to Felix Schulze in a preflop all-in showdown that saw Lahmani’s pocket kings pitted against Schulze’ ace-king. Lahmani kept the lead all through the flop and the turn, but an ace on the river catapulted Schulze ahead, eliminating Lahmani in sixth place.

In the very next hand, Vladimir Peck moved all-in with and was called by Burns, who showed . The board ran and Burn’s jacks sent Peck packing in fifth place.

The play slowed down here, and it took another two hours before Federico Anselmi was eliminated in fourth place – his losing out to Schulze’s that improved to a full house of tens and queens on the runout .
