Gaurav Sood Clinches “The Millionaire” Title For a 2nd Time Following a Heads-up Chop With PokerGuru Ambassador Rony Chowdhury

Gaurav Sood – what a player, right?! Is there anything that this poker phenom can’t do? The former GPS Millionaire United champion captured his second Millionaire title yesterday for an impressive ₹14.18 Lakhs! Cashing three times in the tournament, Sood earned ₹14.40 Lakhs, propelling his lifetime winnings to ₹8.06 Crores to secure the ‘Super Achiever’ badge for a record fourth time!

The Young Gun was the undisputed #1 ranked player last year and seems hellbent on repeating the feat in 2021. Well, if he keeps winning like he is, then PokerGuru Ambassador Laksh Pal Singh better watch out. His yearly leaderboard throne is in peril of being usurped!

While Gaurav Sood is undoubtedly the man of the hour, PokerGuru Ambassador Rony Chowdhury gave the former a tough fight for the title, but ultimately Chowdhury settled for a runner-up payout worth ₹13.17 Lakhs, following a heads-up chop. Like Sood, the Kolkata-based Chowdhury also cashed multiple times in the event, raking in a total of ₹15.12 Lakhs. This is Chowdhury’s second time placing runner-up in The Millionaire this year. He had previously placed second in the weekend flagship on February 28 for ₹13 Lakhs.

Rahul Kumar M Jain (Won Spartan Poker’s Sunday Superstack for ₹6.15 Lakhs), Saurabh Rohila (Won Adda52’s Deepstack Madness for ₹4.90 Lakhs), Tanay Hegde (Won PokerBaazi’s BSS#4 SuperStack for ₹4.20 Lakhs), Debayan Das (Won Adda52’s Nano Highroller for ₹3.26 Lakhs), Parth Aggarwal (Won PokerStars India’s Sunday Special Progressive KO for ₹2.90 Lakhs) and Shravan Chhabria (Won PokerStars India’s Sunday Highroller for ₹2.44 Lakhs) were the other big Sunday winners.

The Millionaire 1 Crore GTD – Spartan Poker

Buy-in – ₹5,500

Entries – 1,114

Re-entries – 296

Re-buys – 704

Prize Pool – ₹1,07,00,000

Places Paid – 311

It was a blockbuster Sunday on several counts, most prominently because the third edition of Spartan Poker’s ₹1 Crore GTD The Millionaire played down to a winner. The weekend flagship tourney registered 2,114 entries (Day 1A – 322, Day 1B – 354, Day 1C – 361, Day 1D – 525, and Day 1E – 552) over five starting flights to post a guarantee crushing ₹1.07 Crores in the prize pool.

Day 2 began at 10 PM with 313 qualifying stacks that included 218 unique players.

It took precisely five hours and 39 minutes of play for Young Gun Gaurav ‘mozzie17’ Sood to champion The Millionaire for the second time, adding ₹14.18 Lakhs to his bankroll. Last night`s win has made the former Dentist the seventh player ever to win the prestigious event twice. The ranked #1 player of 2020, Sood, had taken down the Grand Poker Series (GPS) – The Millionaire United for ₹17.75 Lakhs in October last year.

Yesterday, Sood had made it to Day 2 with three stacks and finished ITM in all three of them. His other two cashes – (62nd for ₹22,470) and (252nd for ₹10,058) helped him secure a cumulative 14.51 Lakhs payday from the event. As far as setting new records set are concerned, Sood became the first-ever player in India (on our database) to enter the 8 Crores Club” in lifetime domestic earnings. His lifetime scores stand tall at ₹8.06 Crores with ₹4.06 Crores (more than 50%) in lifetime profits. Yesterday’s score also helped him jump two spots to #3 in the 2021 annual leaderboard with more than ₹1.37 Crores in yearly winnings. He sits at the #2 spot in the yearly profit leaderboard with ₹65.03 Lakhs in annual profits.

Before taking down the Millionaire, Sood cracked a heads-up deal with PokerGuru Ambassador Rony ‘Eunseom176’ Chowdhury, who banked ₹13.18 Lakhs. Chowdhury qualified for Day 2 with four stacks and finished ITM in all four of them for a cumulative ₹15.13 Lakhs payday, making him Sunday`s biggest winner. Incredibly, Chowdhury managed to FT with two of its stacks. According to the event terms and conditions, both his stacks were merged into one, and he was awarded the eighth-place prize money of 1.77 Lakhs for his second FT stack. He min-cashed two more times in the event, placing 266th for ₹9,095 and 277th for ₹9,095.

This is the second time Chowdhury has placed runner-up in The Millionaire this year. His precious close-run in The Millionaire was on February 28, where he had banked ₹13.35 Lakhs for his runner-up finish. Chowdhury now has ₹3.53 Crores in lifetime online winnings, with ₹1.33 Crores in net profits.

All the final table contestants posted multiple scores in the event. Their scores were as follows:

> ‘haristo’ – (3rd for ₹6.66 Lakhs), (150th for 12,198), and (178th for 12,198)
