Bid Adieu to BHU, the memories of early Poker

July 14, 2013 in News

Hey Everybody

Been some time since I blogged, a lot of people have been asking me to bring my lazy ass to write something Good. This isn’t really good, but getting back to writing is itself a gigantic task.

This week was my convocation and finally I have now been officially graduated in Desi Style:

Kurta-Pyjama Style Graduation m/

This was the group with whom I learned poker, organized ₹100 Sit N Gos which lasted for 3-4 hours. Damn! I miss those days.

Been off poker lately, would play the Sunday Storm today, hopefully not do to bad!!

I’ll write 2 more blogs very soon.

1. How +EV is PGMP? This would give a good idea about the program to this time’s applicants.

2. The Win, the Emotions, the aftermath: Well, you’ll know what it is when you’ll read it.

Railing Adi was super fun! Hopefully next year would be able to join the contingent and be in there to Play, win and Rail some then;)

I, Adi, Anti and Prabhat Da recently met for lunch few days before Adi was leaving for Vegas, we had a good time, and am looking forward to some grinding sessions once they are back to Cal.

Have been working on a secret Project X, would update big on that soon enough:)

Good Luck to Quesho for November 9!

Republic Day, Weekend, Birthday, Sunday!

January 26, 2013 in News

Hi God

Just turned 23 the day before, obviously you know it, but you might not remember me as there were thousands other turning 23 too.

So, cutting long story short, would you please make me win all my flips on Sunday, that would be great Birthday gift. Thanks a ton for everything till now, but since you know Human Kind is greedy, So, I’ll just ask for more, nothing personal, it’s just in our nature:)

Hi Guys
Now, that my letter to God is Public, I wish the same for all of you too, a great Sunday (though God if you’re still reading, You have to prefer me over them, it was my birthday not theirs)

Exams over, an extended weekend, stoned out 2 days of parties, and now a famous IIM C-XL rivalry is under way, so much happening that I just prefer to play poker and sleep.

Bought Hold’em Manager, tweaking around it, trying to make sense out of numbers, or atleast be comfortable with them changing around every hand.!

Even watched 2 seasons of Suits all aired till now, Charismatic have to say! I like series when people play Poker, coming to poker in entertainment

disgRACE2 was obviously expected to be a totally crap movie, with cheap dialogues, cheap nonsense story, but even worse, they played Flush, and only Flush, it was so disappointing to see people raising and re-raising and then going all-in, in the tunes of 50 Million$ only on the basis of their 3 cards! Sigh! Seriously!

Happy Republic day bros! let’s keep the spirit up and just win big this week!

Cheers!

Half Marathon + Liverpool Leading + Me Shoving

January 30, 2013 in News

It’s 50 Mins at the emirates and Liverpool are leading Arsenal by 1 goal, this definitely calls for a blog and so we are here:)

I have decided to take part in the Amity Kolkata Half-Marathon coming Sunday, it’s going to be 21 KM, so I am very sure Poker skills would be of great help.

Need to go slow in the beginning: You know players who just shove their AQ early game, only to see either called by better or losing value, you don’t want to be one of them, you don’t sprint ahead, you take your time and take small steps ahead at a comfortable pace, just like taking down those small pots.

Why Half Marathon?
I love to challenge myself, I am fat and obese, though my Facebook photos won’t make you feel like that (or maybe they will) but these days I am eating all the cheese, butter chicken, patties, Crackle, comes my way, or I make them come my way.

21KM is gonna be long, I may dream to win WSOP ME, but winning this marathon, no I don’t dream that far, I wish to complete it within a respectable time (Respectable Time=Whatever time I complete it)

Sometimes, it’s the journey that is matters more than the end

PGMP is one such thing, few of our batch mates have been really not doing justice to this journey, you know, I trained myself for a week to give my best shot on Sunday, I’ll be trying a demo 10K run tomorrow, so that I am conditioned for 21K on Sunday, these blogs, hand discussions are all important for beating those tables, just like the electrolyte drink after 11KM. Come on guys, this was our dream, we all aspired and perspired to be here, don’t give up so easily!

I hope people buckle up and put more and more interesting motivating blogs and am sure Adi will give everyone another chance.

I was going good in the Hot 11, then shoved JQ with around 50 people left from UTG+1 with 11BB, got called by a smaller stack with KQ, he won and I was down to 4BB, I get AA on BB, hang on for a while but not for long, if only I would have waited till 10BB 😉 Alas 😀

Update: Now Liverpool leads 2-0! Cheers for Rodgers!

Titanic Sinks Twice?

March 12, 2013 in News

Yo Everybody!

[Golden Pro tip for winning all tourneys 1st time you play them: Hidden below, Don’t try to scroll, Read through to understand]

Pretty happening last few days at PGMP!

Arjun took a Score of 38K ! 😎
Adi and Anti have both shipped one atleast for the week!
I played my 1st “The big 16.5” and I guess the 1st time luck worked liked a charm! Took it down for 3.6K (Had a 3 way chip chop deal) after a FT finish in Hot 11

So, now I am at home and been pretty active again (by my own standards) playing a couple of tourneys everyday. Last 5-6 games have been over 5K! Yipee!! The FT finish

So, I ordered a new Laptop from Dell, close to 75K (Used Dad’s Credit Card :P)

Now that I am at home, he keeps inquiring about Poker, PokerGuru, Goa, Vegas, WSOP, etc.

Dad: “Woa! You’re playing 3 together, You started gambling man, You gonna loose a lot”
“Guruji plays 20 at a time yaar” – I replied, He always uses Guruji to address Adi, so me too 😀

“How much did you start with?”
I convert and say “about 1200”, was playing Hot 11, the big 8.8 and some 180s

“Atleast, play safe till you get that amount back”
I try to explain, how everybody thinks this way, and so I should be more aggressive, He still tries to convince me, first I should get back the 11 invested and then go for the win! [Face Palm]

He’s a really cool guy, he found/created a Hindi Idiom for Poker

”Murkho ka dhan, Samajhdar ki khurak hain”

Fool’s money is smart guy’s food!

I LOLed so hard, we talk about this everyday atleast 2-3 times, there’s something in the way he says that makes your day 😀

So, this was pretty much the background before starting “The Big 16.5”

[Pro Tip for winning all Poker Tourneys, the 1st time you play them: Coming Soon]

I open PS at around 2, I see last minute registration in “The Big 16.5” and Jump in.

I had 12BB, but thanks to PGMP, I knew how to make the most of them, within no time, I was close to Average. From Level -1 to Level 2. This is my personal way of looking at an MTT game, I divide them into levels and play around, it’s also easier to discuss with friends, what Level I got out, how I was going for a level up and ended up 2 levels down 😀

Brief Outlook::

Level -1: When you’re way below the Average Chip Stack, cause you wanted to bluff that noob of his Ace pair and that fish called.

Level 0: You start here, You’re happy with so many chips, so many BB!! You can play this for eternity, catching cards, alas you’ve 200BB!!

Level 1: You have a double up, you’re close to 1.5 times the Average Stack.

Level 2: You have played and won that flip, antes have kicked in, you’ve close to 60BB and are comfortably in the top 500

Level 3: You have used that lite 3b to good use, and are now looming in the 50-90 range.

Level 4: Man, that flush draw actually hit! That fish gave you all his stack with his 2 pairs over your straight! We now still have 80BB, but these are crucial 80 BB cause we are in the top 9, that FT finish looks close, only 100 odd guys remain!

Level 5: You dominated them, fed on their fears like the scarecrow, and beat them to ground like the Batman, you’re the Chip Leader with 18-27 guys remaining. This is the Ultimate level, just need to maintain this for another 2 hours and bragging rights are coming home!!

Down from 1st to 6th in one hand, that surely pissed me off! I mean seriously, that was my most expensive typo ever :D!
And the guy also flopped 2 pairs! I mean this had to be a lesson to be learnt:)

But, soon in next 5 hands was in top 3 and next 15 was back to Pole Position.

Never really looked back after that, raised every hand that was folded to me, even if I was UTG or UTG+1 or SB, (folded like 2 in 200 hands)

I was so going for 1st, that I started deal saying I want 4K when 1st was 4073 😀

Thanks to Adi, completed the deal using Chip Chop numbers!

[The Pro Tip: You all had been waiting for this, so to win all the tourneys the 1st time you play “Flip Well, Young Jedi”] 😀 😛

India Owned Russia

This guy who was 3rd got chip chop numbers at 2670, I had already negotiated 2500 for him, So asked the moderator to re-distribute the amount over 2500. The Russian agreed to this hard bargain and that’s how India took revenge over the poor supplied arms from USSR!

Cheers!

March 8, 2013 in News

Hey everybody

The whole blogging scene is pretty dormant these days in spite of regular Adi threats 😀

Just finished 6th in the Hot 11 for 1.5K, was 2nd on FT, so feeling terri bad for not shipping it :/ also was CL with 20 remaining, played one hand really bad, but all things aside I am getting a hang of this Turbo Sprints, thanks to Antilog! aka the “The Turbo Man”

Happy Women’s Day

Image Inserted: Check

No poker long time

Few people are aware that poker got banned in college and I had not played any poker from last 3 weeks, reached home day before yesterday, played a couple of games and feels happy to FT a MTT

Anti again on the same table!

Antilog would just not leave me along with around 60 guys to go, we both were on the same table, I was taking tips from him, (obviously re-shoving ATC into him :P)

We had been on the same table once before when I shipped a $15 x 180, signs were good I guess 😀

Turbo Tips

Honestly, I was shit scared of Turbos, I was the slow guy, but time constraints forced me to learn it, thanks to HH review sessions, it was a breeze learning.

We reviewed Adi final table run, Anti winning one HOT, so, everything seemed really standard to me, and I was quick to grasp the tricky spots.

Turbos are more about finding spots pre-flop and making use of each and everyone of them. Post-flop game is very less, until you are CL and playing the 2nd-3rd guy, everybody else is average <10BB.

I really don’t think I am good enough to give tips, but would love to hear some from Antilog.

Credits
Guruji aka Adi just shipped “The hot 3.3″ today, So I had to be motivated, and thanks to the whole PG team for creating the awesome environment that we have during each session” – This was my Sunday milly winning speech, but I guess I’ll use it anyways today 😀

Volume
My volumes is really pathetic, trying to improve it as much as possible, haven’t even played 1200 games till now in life
😮 http://www.sharkscope.com/#Player-Statistics//networks/PokerStars/players/dvcoolster which includes my struggling life of 0.02 MTTs

Had spewed almost all from the 10K win, so this win does help me get healthy for coming Sundays!, Take care Sunday, we gonna come hard at you!

@Anti: Just ship that big 8.8, ok, I am mentioning it here before you do it, that entitles me to at least 100 bucks when you ship it, and I am not kidding, even i put this smile 😛 take me seriously!

Early Weekend: Party and Poker

November 28, 2012 in News

Hey Guys

Mid week, So I played a few more multi tabling session with hyper sit and go’s, did pretty bad in almost all of them result wise.

We have been spending nights playing Mafia after being stoned it’s pretty sick!

Played a couple of live sit n’ go’s lost both.

What’s next?

Bang-a-**ore

Would be heading to Bangalore tomorrow for spending time with close friends and partying, we have planned an afternoon at Golden Aces, so if anyone of you plans to come, we can plan it together.

It’s going to be awesome 4 days full of Party and Poker for sure!

Any tips for cash game at Aces would be welcome! Please!:)

Hope everyone of you enjoying Poker, PGMP is coming great and I feel myself a lot more comfortable in making decisions pre-flop with a plan in mind rather than a feeling.

Post-Flop: I just bet all streets until,

1. The opponent folds.
2. He calls me off to see 2 cards, which even I could not see.

Well maybe not, but anyways, the important thing is we are heading towards end of pre-flop strategy and would soon be moving to post flop strategy.

Hand History review sessions were an awesome experience, fine tuned the thinking process in many spots and were great for revision also.

Cheers then, hope to catch someone from PG in Golden Aces.

Being Regular

January 23, 2013 in News

Hi Guys

It’s been some time since I blogged, obviously, you won’t be interested into why?
But, anyways, I’ll tell you 😀
I have been playing a bit less Poker these days.
I load up 2-3 big everyday, been more than a week since I made a deep run in any of them.

I had initially tried to increase my volume drastically, but I failed badly, did not feel comfortable and most people were running over me.

HH review sessions:
These have been of great help to me, and I started playing a couple of Turbo tourneys after Antilog’s Review session.

TCOOP-1 $27: Was doing real great with ups and downs and then my KK lost to QQ with 1800 people left, would have jumped to under 250 with that hand :/

$15 – 180
So, I loaded this turbo, my best finish in 180s till now has been 4th in $2.5
This was the first time I loaded $15 x 180 : After the bubble burst, me and Anti were on the same table

Right Click on his avatar, find this player, he’s on the final table of another 180s

Soon, he min raised, I had AK, so had to 3-bet him, he shoved with AQ and I did feel sad to take away most of his chips, I was hoping we too would battle it in Heads up, but he had better plans. After I won this one, a couple of hours later, I see Antilog literally killing the final table of another $15×180 and taking it with ease.
Great going bro, he was also on FT of todays’s HOT 3.3 !

Everyone has been doing good, Prabhat recently had a really good score, Gurpal finished good, and PB shipped it. PGMP doing good for all of us, and I feel guilty of not continuing with a simple promise of writing blogs.

So, here’s hoping that even if I don’t play much Poker, I do post more blogs.

Now, I need to rush through Corp Fin exam tomorrow, so please excuse me 🙂

Cheers!

5.1 Hyper: Short and Sweet

December 9, 2012 in News

Hey everybody

So, I am the guy who hates Turbos and loves deep stack structure, but since we have been learning a lot of Short Stack Strategies it makes sense to make the most out of them and try Hypers.

Secondly, I have end term week from tomorrow (The World’s coming to an end) so I have rejuvenated interest in Poker.

I see Rajit posting bust from 5.1 Hyper at around 12:23, now my Tourney Tab at PS is always on ‘Special’ Tab, so I only see hot and big, I look around in ‘All’ tab and find this 5.1 Hyper.

Observation 1: PS charging only .1 on 5 USD, that’s some news to me!
Observation 2: Only 15 Minutes of Late registration, Yipee!

So, I load it up and have 10 BB, all the hands I played were shove or fold, was down to 2 BB before break, got lucky and a few double ups here and there got me going, soon I was amongst the top 10 and played decent from spots to make it ITM.

ITM: There was a bit more of BS now, a couple of my raise went trhough but a lot more got reshoves and I folded.

I also got a spot to lite 3b in this Hyper “How Cool is that!” with 79o

Soon, I was 5/8, I mean this was really soon, just like that, Rajit told me the top prize was 470 around. I was happy for that, it had been some time since I made a FT.

Did not shove JTo from SB, BB was the Chip Leader, I am really angry on myself for this, the next hand I open shoved from UTG+1 A2o, got snap called from CL, he had JJ, did not improve on the board and was busted 8th.

Does good for my confidence:) and might try some more turbo tournaments in near future 😉

I would recommend these to anybody who wants to keep their learnings in practice from PGMP, are short on time as these are way better than spending time on Zoom or Cash games, when we can do so much more on MTT, let’s do it ;)

Good Luck to everybody for the Sunday Grind, I won’t be playing today or alteast would hope not too!

Cheers

Multi Tabling & Short Stack: 2 Birds – 1 Stone

November 25, 2012 in News

What’s going on guys?

How’s the weekend treating you? or the other way round?

Anyways, We have been spending hours playing Mafia these days, it’s sick game, especially if you’re stoned and mafia in the game.

So, coming to the title, I obviously have an inherit problem with multi-tabling, I can’t concentrate enough on tendencies of player and then I feel lost at times. Obviously, as it’s the next natural step to put in as much volume as possible and given the scarce resource of Time that I have at my disposal, I have to learn multi-tabling to be a Top Poker Player.

So, I devised a sexy method to do this.

I will be playing 100 $3.5 Hyper 6-Max Sit N’ Go.
I will be playing 10 everyday, so this is going to be a 10 day crasher.
I will be keeping account of all of position, winnings and track.
I will mostly multi-table 4 at a time, and then 2 single tables. To check effect of Multi-tabling.

Why?
We are learning short stack MTT Strategy, obviously SnG and MTT are completely different ball game, but there can be things that can be learnt and transferred like shoving ranges and calling ranges. Blind levels are different, Fold Equity is different, but some concepts remain same, and it’ll be a good exercise to remember them.

Multi Tabling: Practice and Practice alone can help a man! So there I go then.

Yeah, seriously, You get dealt Royal Flush and then you say Cards don’t matter, Good Shit MBA!

Hyper: I am a slow player, I like the big games, I like the blind levels to be 10-15 min, and so to break out of my comfort zone I’ll be playing Hypers.
Using Hyper I can play 10 Sit n Go in less than an hour. What more do I want! That’s some volume for me 🙂

Worst Case: I can loose $350, but obviously I hope to be +EV at the end of 10 days, given the learning from PGMP Short stack lessons.

If I do feel that it’s helping me in anyway to improve my MTT game, I may continue it.

I won’t be playing this to make quick money or have a decent ROI.

The Reason why I won’t be playing Heads Up with Satyakee, He wants to rip off his Junior!

The sole reason I started to play poker was to win WSOP ME, I have played 0.02×990 Hyper as seriously as Sunday Million, it has always been about learning for me, and so it will remain. I have been lucky to get a bink in MTT which has given me some space to try out new things, get a sexy monitor to help Multi Tabling. I get huge satisfaction in a deep run in MTT which is unmatched in any other game.

Yesterday, played a couple of $5.5 Micro Million, was running good with 6/350 remaining in one of them but got soon busted. In another one, made a last minute late reg, and in under 10 hands was among the top 10% with 8.5K remaining players, eventually busted close to 1000. No big thing to cheer, but it was good to make deep runs, I have been looking forward to tomorrow’s Main Event. Hope to do something substantial to blog about 😉

Day 1

A bad start, I like to turn things around 😉

Day 1 MMIII

November 16, 2012 in News

Firstly, the quality of this blog might be lower than my usual standards, as I am short on time.

Important things: I could play only 3 of the 1st 6 events of MMIII, sigh! So much for boasting Player of Series dreams :/

A quick change in strategy, would be playing to my strengths, I am bad at R, Add-on (haven’t played much here), So firstly would focus on NL Hold’em.

I started with everything planned at 8:30 PM, but soon room was full of smoke, beers were in order, loud music on the new system, bong was fired up. I could not make head or tail of what was going on Tables, I think I cashed in 2 events (not sure though), I definitely was busted in first 3-4 hands in the event I was most excited to play. I was out of senses by mid night after the PGMP session ended, we were listening to some awesome shit, I was posting youtube links on FB.
Some late night snacks later I crashed. I think I blinded out in the other 3 tourneys as I had registered in everything. Unregistered out of all tourneys for today, would be joining selectively for now.

So, the plan is simple again, win 3 tourneys and get the points:)

First Live Cash Game

December 4, 2012 in News

Hey Everybody!

As I informed in a diary entry kind of blog last time that I would be spending the weekend in Bangalore mostly partying with friends, have some meaningful discussion on a startup, Mushrooms with brother and avoid ex while playing something live at Golden Aces.

I’ll start with the starters and soup

This is Serious Shit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm-ViInMmlw
It doesn’t matter whether you’re Triping, Playing serious Poker with high concentration or just having a good time, this works all the time without the loop! 10 hrs of Bliss!

Main Course: Poker
Venue: Golden Aces
Timing: 3PM Saturday
Buffet: 2500 INR
Menu: 50-50

So, we were 4 guys after enquiring about the buy-in I saw a waiting queue for 2.5K, So, 2 of us though to go for 5K table but that was downstairs and we all wanted to be on the same floor at least. Me and Chetan took 1 table, my bro and another friend took the other table. I was a bit cramped up in the initial stages.

Now, I am new to Cash, so when people around me asked to put in the blind, I just gave a 100 chip thinking it’s 50-100 or something and dealer did not even return me the 50! I don’t know if I actually needed to put 100, but I guess I just needed 1BB.

Rake: OMG, Every pot that guy takes 150 into those slots, that’s sick man!, I would anyday run a Poker table rather than play Poker, during the 4 hours I played, I am sure that guy atleast got excess of 15K that’s sick for 1 table!

After openly inquiring about blinds, chip denominations, Pot-Limit Omaha Rules, Straddle, I was branded a noob on table for sure.

Anyways, I had these beautiful cards in Omaha, AA88 both suited, I raised to possible, got a few callers, I was left with 2000, flop was JJ9, I bet 500, the guy next to me, the pro who taught me all the rules moved all-in, I tanked for a while before folding, he looking at me like a learning child showed me his J.

Now, with 1500, I was sure I needed a double to continue or a rebuy!

Limpers: There were limpers all around, I mean everybody! I raised to 5X once and still 3 guys called, Yeah Great! I had A5o

flop comes T23, 2 guys check to me, I bet 300, one guy raises to 800, I re-raise to all-in, but surprise surprise! I cannot throw around chips and by bet is considered just a call.

He checks to me after on the turn of 3, so now board is T23-3, I bet all-in 700, he tanks for a while, Stand up, looks at me and says you have 22? I laugh and say “You’re not Phil Ivey man, so just don’t try to be one” He has this sad look on his face, he shows me T2 folds, and then leaves the table.

Guess who’s the bad ass on table now!

Never looked back after that, played a lot of pots, small ones, got a double up, had one straddling, had a nice chat with the guy right to me (he had won the big 3.3 once)

My brother busted 2 buy-ins 5K, so I was mentally thinking about covering for him:)

I ended up with 7.9K from 2.5K, had a lot of food which was +EV 😀

Hoping to get back on grind this week, next week’s going to be full of exams 🙁

Vinay: Hoping to read more stuff from you and wishing you great luck on Tables and I am sure you’ll jump back to MTT after some time, you won’t be able to resist 😀

PB: Great Package on Sunday.

Antilog: Hoping to see more FTs! Much more!
