Online Rankings: Mohammad Azhar Headlines the Weekly Charts, Gaurav Sood Completes Nine Weeks as the 2021 Leaderboard Topper

In this feature, we will bring you to the top 5 weekly and monthly performers every Saturday. However, the rankings will only include players who are registered to our online ranking system, so if you haven’t signed up on PokerGuru yet, hurry up and register!

The worst of the COVID-19 pandemic looks to be behind us, putting live poker back on its feet and kicking. The next several weeks will be centered around the happenings at the 52nd annual WSOP in Las Vegas. The series is making a comeback after a 26-month gap. Even with the excitement riding high, the Indian participation will almost certainly be smaller this time, primarily because of the restrictions for players from India to fly directly into the US.

It`s was a relatively slow week for MTT regs. The only succor was Spartan Poker`s The Millionaire, which, in its new avatar, promises ₹20 Lakhs to the winner. In the absence of a major tournament series, it’s unsurprising to see the top order of the annual rankings remain unchanged, and Young Gun Gaurav Sood is still the player to catch at the top. The 25-year-old dentist turned poker pro couldn`t get his US visa on time for WSOP and hence made plans to attend EPT Sochi (October 2 – 11). This justifies the minimal volume and the modest ₹84,240 on his weekly tally. The dismal figures aside, Sood is still the only tracked player with over 3.50 Crores in annual winnings.

Manish Lakhotia holds on to the #2 rank on the annual standings. The MTT pro from Siliguri seems to have woken up from his slumber and posted ₹11.28 Lakhs in cumulative earnings this past week – ranking #3 on the weekly charts and #2 in September.

PokerGuru Ambassador Laksh Pal Singh rounds out the top-three on the annual rankings. The poker pro won PokerBaazi`s The Summit, which along with a few other deep runs, fetched him a cumulative ₹5.38 Lakhs this past week.

While Laksh Pal Singh features among the year`s top winners, his stablemate Ankit Wadhawan was September’s winningest player with a cumulative ₹68.78 Lakhs in recorded winnings. Manish Lakhotia (₹41.11 Lakhs) and Young Gun Sahil Chutani (₹38.64 Lakhs) ranked #2 and #3 respectively on the September charts.

Mohammad Azhar has been one of the biggest revelations of 2021. The 23-year old has been unstoppable ever since he won the NPS Main Event title in June. Last Sunday, Azhar shipped the Adda52 Big Game to emerge as the week`s top scorer. The INCOOP Main Event champion Piyush Nanda and Sunday SuperStack winner Manish Lakhotia round out the top three names on the weekly leaderboard standings.

1. Gaurav Sood

Yearly Cashes – ₹3,60,32,397

Yearly Profit – ₹1,75,38,928

Yearly Leaderboard Points – 51,212

This was one of those rare weeks where Gaurav Sood was almost entirely missing in action. The 25-year-old has dominated the MTT standings since last year and, in a candid conversation, had confessed how his consistency has come from a highly disciplined work ethic.

We checked in on Sood to find out the reason for the absence, and it turns out that the Young Gun had to skip his WSOP plans because of Visa issues and is instead attending EPT Sochi (October 2- 11).

Gaurav Sood put up ₹84,240 in recorded winnings, and most of them came on Sunday. He cashed ₹61,840 for placing 50th in the INCOOP Main Event PKO.

The indomitable leaderboard topper of 2021 can undoubtedly afford the hiatus since he still sits with an impressive ₹3.60 Crore in annual cashes and ₹1.75 Crores in corresponding profits.
