This Week in Poker: June 30 – July 6

In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker,’ we bring you the weekly roundup of the most significant online scores by Indian MTT players and the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week’s top stories!

With the National Poker Series (NPS) culminating on June 27 and the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) set to begin on July 11, the MTT circuit seems to have taken a two-week breather. Expectedly, this resulted in a majority of the flagships suffering overlays this past week.

The week`s headline event, Spartan Poker’s The Millionaire, found a champion in former Game Changer 2.0 winner Shagun Jain. The online beast took down his career-first Millionaire title for a ginormous ₹17.89 Lakhs (cumulative). For his stellar run, Shagun Jain is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week!”

Sagar Choudhury, Ankit Bajaj, Manish Lakhotia, PokerGuru Ambassador Mithun Mahesh, Young Gun Sanat Mehrotra, and NPS champion Mohammad Azhar were the other standout winners of the week.

The 11th edition of the IOPC is just around the corner, and with an astronomical ₹30 Crores in guaranteed prize money, it has all the making of becoming a landmark event. The series will be open to players on all poker platforms on the Quadnet Poker Network, and one of these sites, BLITZPOKER, has announced a flurry of deposit offers, with free tickets to the IOPC satellites up for grabs.

Cash game lovers have to check out PokerStars India’s new ‘Cardex’ promotion. Players need to collect five pieces through the Cardex every day from July 5 to 18 by playing on the NLHE cash game tables on the site for an opportunity to win up to ₹3 Lakhs daily!

Not to be outdone, PokerDangal is currently running “The Big Race” leaderboard race. The weeklong promotion runs from July 5 to 11 and is open to all players from ₹1/₹2 to ₹50/₹100 stakes. There are ₹2.50 Lakhs in cumulative prizes to be won through three leaderboard races.

Asia’s largest online poker room, Natural8, is hosting the inaugural Short Deck Series from July 4 to 11 with $1 Million in guarantees.

There is finally some light at the end of the dark tunnel for India’s casino industry. The Sikkim government opened the doors to all three casinos in the state on July 6 after a two-month-long hiatus.

Moving onto the international sphere, the 2021 WSOP Online Series kicked off on July 1 and has already handed out six gold bracelets.

Meanwhile, Andrew Moreno championed over a record-setting 1,328-entry field in the $10 Million GTD Wynn Millions to bank a personal-best $1.46 Million.
