DPT April 2017: Arsh Grover Leads 31 Survivors After ₹35K Main Event Day 1A

Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) April Edition kicked off in style with its opening ₹15K kick-off event attracting a total of 169 hopefuls. Topping them all was Delhi’s Rubin Labroo who pocketed a cool ₹6.80 Lakhs. Firing up the weekend action was the ₹35K Main Event that got underway yesterday with the first of its two starting flights.

This time around, the Main Event has two starting flights i.e. Day 1A & Day 1B and the survivors from both flights will reconvene on April 22 to down to a champion.

Day 1A of the event attracted an impressive 143 runners with 31 players advancing to Day 2.

The event drew a number of big names including Adda52 Team pro’s Kunal Patni, Amit ‘bblacklegend’ Jain, Nikita Luther & Tarun Goyal alongside Sharad Rao, 15k Kickoff Champion Rubin Labroo, Anup Palod, Vivek Rughani, Arsh Grover, Manoj Pentakota, DPT February 30K Main Event champion Imran Khan, Raghav Bansal, Shashank Jain, Amit Sur, Zarvan Tumboli, Abhishek Jalan, Sahil Agarwal, Jasven Saigal, Prashant Jain Bhutoria and Minissha Lamba among others.

Delhi-ites seemed to be in form as after ten hours of tournament action another Delhi lad – Arsh Grover (cover image) bagged the chip lead with 195,000 in chips.


35K Main Event Day 1A

Day 1A play started around 7:30 pm and within half hour of play action starting picking up. Anup Palod, Abhishek Jalan and Shashank Jain were some of the early eliminations of the day and hit the rails within the first two hours of play.

Just a few minutes later Abhishek Jalan also joined the railbirds courtesy Sanket Sanganeria. Sanganeria opened to 250 and Jalan re-raised it to 600. Sanganeria 4-bet it to 2,700 and Jalan moved all-in holding . Sanganeria made the call and tabled . No help on the board for Jalan and he made an early exit.

Amit Jain put in a solid performance bagging 92,000 in chips. His Day 1 onslaught began with a double up through Manoj Pentakota. Pentakota opened UTG for 250 and Jain re-raised it to 800. Pentakota made the call to see the flop ; Jain bet 800 and Pentakota check-called. The turn card was the and Jain bet 1,400. Pentakota check-raised it to 4,200 and Jain took his time before making the call. On the river Pentakota fired a bet of 6,300 and Jain moved allin holding . Pentakota tank called. Jain took down the pot with his flush while Pentakota mucked his hand.

Shortly thereafter, Jain doubled up through R.G, taking his stack to 65,100 by the second break of the event.

Some notables who exited before the end of play include Pawan Jain, Vikram Kumar, Kunal Patni, Sumit Sapra, Sharad Rao, Tarun Goyal, Nikita Luther, Minissha Lamba, Navkiran Singh and Vivek Rughani.

Team PokerHigh Pro Arsh Grover topped the 31 survivors at the end of play, bagging 195,000. He was actively posting his progress on social media:

And the final update from Grover confirmed his chip lead. He posted “Bagged roughly 196k in the DPT Main Day 1 coming back on Saturday. Should be one of the top stacks #teampokerhigh #binkaasaurus

DPT April 2017: Rubin Labroo Takes Down the ₹15K Kick-Off Event For ₹6.80 Lakhs

An action-packed poker extravaganza has begun with the Deltin Poker Tournament’s (DPT) April Edition with ₹2.25 crores GTD! The series is slated to run till April 24 and saw a good turnout of 169 entries in their opening ₹15K Kick-off event. Yesterday. After almost 14 hours of grueling action it was Delhi lad Rubin Labroo (cover image) who came out on top and claimed the title for a sum of ₹6,80,250 Lakhs.

Hosted at the luxe Deltin Royale Poker room afloat Goa’s River Mandovi, the 15K Kickoff drew a number of notable players including Adda52 Team Pros Kunal Patni, Amit Jain & Tarun Goyal alongside Sharad Rao, Abhineet Jain, Irrshad Choudhary, former ₹10K kick-off champion Jasven Saigal, Rubin Labroo, Vikram Kumar, Minissha Lamba, Arsh Grover, Eka Vedantham, Abhisek Panda and Paawan Bansal among others. The top 18 finishers made their share of money from the total prizepool of ₹25,09,650 Lakhs.

The series began with an online 7K Warm Up event, which was won by Vivek ‘victor2coolsmart’ Karwa for ₹3.2 Lakhs. On tap today is the ₹35K Main Event which begins at 7 pm.


15K Kick-off Event

The event started at around 7:30 pm with the room buzzing with players and among the early eliminations were Kunal Patni, Akash Shekhar and Abhishek Jalan.

The game reached the bubble stage after 7 hours of play and just before the bubble, former ₹10K Kick-off champion Jasven Saigal was eliminated by Paawan Bansal. Saigal open shoved UTG for around 15.5K holding and Paawan Bansal called with . Bansal clipped a pair of Aces on the board and took down the hand eliminating Saigal in the process.

The money line was reached only during the witching hours of 3am after Tarun Goyal got eliminated on the bubble. The hand in question saw Tarun opening to 10,000 and Rubin Labroo made the call. On the flop, Goyal led out for 15,000 and Labroo called to see the turn . Action was checked around to the river . Labroo raised and Goyal shoved his short stack holding. Labroo called showing and took down the pot.

Some of those who cashed included Chirag Patel (18th), Girish Shahane (15th), Ayush Singh (14th),Anuj Uppal (13th), Paawan Bansal (12th), Manoj Pentakota (11th) and Vikram Kumar (10th).

With Kumar’s elimination, the 9-handed final table was set and leading the pack was Faiz Alam with 444K in chips followed by Rubin Labroo with 289K.

Labroo began to flex his muscles soon and took the first elimination of the final table in Anup Palod when the latter’s failed against Labroo’s .

Next to hit the rails were Sameer Tavanandi (8th place), Yogesh Madnani (7th place) and Avinash Kumar (6th Place).

Deepak Bothra was the next to go. He open shoved his short stack holding Four-Three and got two callers in Rubin Labroo with King-Nine and Faiz Alam with Ace-Ten. The board supported Alam who made two pair eliminating Bothra in fifth place.

Ahmedabad-based Amit Sur settled for a fourth place finish and the former final table chip leader Faiz Alam exited in third place.

The heads-up duel didn`t last long and the final hand of the event saw the short-stacked Abhisek Panda moving all-in with Six-Four and Rubin Labroo made an instant call with . Labroo hit quads on the board to win the opening event at DPT!

With the holiday season behind us, poker action picked up steam this past week with the start of the 2017 PokerStars Championship in Bahamas – the first PokerStars event since the rebranding. The series has already crowned its first big winner in American pro Jason Koon who topped 54 entries in the $100,000 Super High Roller Event For $1,650,300.

Closer home, the World Poker Tour National (WPT) Cambodia being held at the Queenco Hotel & Casino in Sihanoukville, Cambodia saw a large Indian contingent in attendance. Team India came out all guns blazing with several deep runs and two titles already in the bag. Four Indian players managed to make it to Day 3 in the Main event. Nitin Jain came particularly close to making it big but ended up finishing fourth for $12,170, with Manoj Pentakota (6th place for $7,296), Kalyan Chakravarthy (7th place for $6,078) and Charu Vikram Kaushik (11th place for $2,656) all making in-the-money finishes.

The next week promises even more action with the start of the Asian Poker Tour Kickoff 2017 that starts from Jan 11. pro Kunal Patni is confirmed to be attending the series. Starting alongside APT Kickoff will be the Aussie Millions Poker Championship that is slated to run from Jan 11 – 30!

Online action too promises to escalate with the start of the TCOOP series on Jan 18 and the Super XL Series on 888poker a day later. The virtual felts were buzzing with action and topping the online charts yet again is Gaurav ‘Ayya10258’ Ayya who banked $7,959.01 from three noteworthy cashes and for this he takes our ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’ title.

In other highlights, well-known poker pro Bryan Huang Diwei parted ways with PokerStars. Summing up our report is news of David Peters winning the GPI ‘Player of the Year’ title, Delta Corp announcing the launch of its Sikkim Casino, TwoPlusTwo forum database getting hacked and Amaya Gaming settled a deal with the Scheinbergs on the pending payment.

The highlight of the series i.e. $1,485 Main Event saw Team India coming out all guns blazing with four players from the Team making it in the final 12 on Day 3. Amaya Gaming Finalizes Deferred Payment Deal With Scheinbergs

The Canada-based Amaya Gaming company will not have to issue new equity, as it was successful in closing a deal to make deferred payment to PokerStars’ former owners i.e. Scheinbergs. Live action shifted from the European Poker Tour (EPT) 13, Barcelona in the north-western part of the globe to the far-east with the Macau Poker Cup (MPC) 25, which began on August 26. In the interim Indian players were busy making hay at the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) in Goa, with Vikas Singh emerging the champion of the 30K Main Event for INR 17.60 Lakhs and Rohit Tiwari taking down the 60K Highroller for INR 27.70 Lakhs, besides several other winners at side events.

The EPT 13, Barcelona completed its featured events with Sebastian Malec winning the Main Event for €1,122,800 and Connor Drinan taking down the High Roller for €849,200. Among Indians, Muskan Sethi and YS Jas made multiple cashes at side events, with Arsh Grover min-cashing the Main Event.

Muskan Sethi cashed in two side events. She first made 68th place for €960 in the €500 NL Turbo event and another 80th place in the €300 NL Hyper Turbo for €340. YS Jas also cashed for €5,890 in the €5k NL Hyper Turbo making a deep run at 18th place.

APT to Sponsor AJPC

The APT will be sponsoring the 10th edition of the AJPC and will have 15 prizes going towards the APT Philippines Golden Week 2017. The series is scheduled to run from April 26 to May 7, 2017 in the Philippines.

The APT announced its return to Macau after three years with the APT Macau 2016 that will run from Oct 19 to 25. This event will follow the APT Poker Cruise 2016, a tournament to be held aboard a luxurious liner in Kowloon Bay with four events from September 29 to October 2, 2016.

PokerStars Announces Major Changes in the Branding of Live Tournaments – Introduces PokerStars Championship and PokerStars Festival

During the EPT, PokerStars announced that henceforth all its live tournaments would be categorized into two main Brands – PokerStars Championship & PokerStars Festival. The first would be a more for professionals with serious and higher buy-in games. The second is slated to be a lighter version with lower buy-ins catering more to recreational players.

California Online Poker Bill Shelved Until 2017

A last ditch attempt to get the pending online poker bill in California approved failed and the bill has now been shelved till next year. The obstacles in the way of the bill was primarily the lack of consensus between stakeholders over the ‘bad actor’ terms, with the Assembly session expiring on August 31.

PokerGuru GPI Update – Fedor Holz Continues to Dominate, Nick Petrangelo Now No 2

The GPI rankings saw some upheaval, with the EPT 13 Barcelona, but Fedor Holz continued to maintain his lead on top of the leaderboard, thanks to his win at the Super High Roller (SHR) for €1,300,300. Nick Petrangelo displaced Jason Mercier from No. 2 position due to his win at the opening EPT 13 Barcelona €10,300 Single Re-entry event for €413,000.
