Poker Dream Vietnam: Shardul Parthasarathi Finishes Fifth in High Roller Freezeout (VN₫ 402 Million)

The inaugural Poker Dream Vietnam festival, currently underway at the Hoiana Hotel & Suites KHOS in Quảng Nam, Vietnam, had a busy Saturday, with four tournaments playing down to a winner.

We have been keeping a close tab on the proceedings since a small but accomplished group of Indian pros is in attendance. Accomplished pros Kunal Patni and Young Gun Shardul Parthasarathi were two players of special interest as the duo returned for Day 2 of the VN₫ 70 Million buy-in High Roller Freezeout with sizable stacks.

Shockingly, Patni, who was fifth in chips among 37 survivors, had the most unfortunate departure on the money bubble. Parthasarathi, who came back with a middling stack, did relatively well by sailing into the final table, where he finished fifth for VN₫ 402 Million. The final table finish is Parthasarathi’s first cash at the series and his seventh top-10 finish since he won the WPT Prime Cambodia Super High Roller in August.

The start-of-day chip leader Hong Kong’s Andrew Kai Bong Lo took down the event to win his maiden live tournament title, bagging the custom-designed Dragon trophy and the VN₫ 1.413 Billion (~$58,500) top prize.

Another Indian, Suresh Kolli, was among the 41 starters resuming play on Day 2 of the VN₫ 1 Billion GTD Warm Up. Kolli crashed out early, netting VN₫ 12.80 Million in 40th place.

Walking away with the signature logo trophy was Korea’s In Ho Song, who booked his first tournament victory outside his home country for a VN₫ 361.176 Million (~$14,900) payday.

In the Deepstack, the first-ever WPT Vietnam Main Event champion Dhaval Mudgal opened his scorecard, placing 13th for VN₫ 9.80 Million.

The Deepstack wound down to a heads-up deal between the Philippines’ William Ysmael and Malaysia’s Zi Xuan Tan, both locking up VN₫ 109.35 Million (~$4,350) each. They flipped for the trophy, which Ysmael ended up winning.

Vietnam’s Nguyen Manh Hao shipped the Short Deck Ante Only for VN₫ 864 Million.

Korea’s In Ho Song Wins Warm-Up For VN₫ 361,176,000 (~$14,900)

VN₫ 1 Billion GTD Warm Up registered a 264-player field, and 41 of them came back for Day 2 yesterday!

Korea’s In Ho Song had brought in the second-biggest stack (from Flight A) and made a late surge to take down the title in under seven hours of play. He eventually defeated Malaysia’s Chee Kuo Chen heads-up to win the signature logo trophy, posting his first tournament victory outside of Korea and pocketed the top prize of VN₫ 361.176 Million (~$14,900).

India’s Suresh Kolli had brought forth an average stack of 59,000 and hit the rail relatively early, taking home VN₫ 12.80 Million in 40th place.

On the final table, In Ho Song spun up after doubling through Feng Zhao twice before eliminating him in sixth place in the third showdown. He subsequently busted Ta Khanh Linh in fourth place after cracking Linh’s pocket aces with queen-nine that rivered a straight.

Song single-handedly took out the last three players standing in his way, and Lee Haerok went on to collect the third-place payout.

Entering the heads-up battle, Song held a two-to-1 chip advantage over Chen and took all of six hands to seal his win. On the last hand of the tournament, Chen held vs. Song’s and didn`t get any favors on the board .

The VN₫ 8 Million buy-in Warm Up event generated a VN₫ 1,843,776,000 (~$76,400) prize pool on the back of the 264 entries through three starting flights (Flight A – 101, Flight B – 134, Flight C – 29). The top 41 places got paid.

Hao defeated Malaysia’s Chow Hing Yaung in the final showdown. Yaung entered the heads-up play as the chip leader after dispatching Co Chung Chuen in third place. However, Hao scored a quick double-up with his pocket nines improving to a full house of nines full of jacks, beating Chow’s ace-jack that flopped trips.

Hao hit a winning two-pair with king-queen in the final hand, crushing Yaung’s ace-king.
