Shifting of Goa Offshore Casinos Extended By One Year to March 31, 2017

Yesterday, on March 31, the Goa BJP-led government announced that it was extending the licenses of the four offshore casinos, by one year, thereby delaying their shifting another 12 months.

Laxmikant Parsekar, Chief Minister, told the press that the government had decided to extend the offshore licenses till March next year. He stated, “The decision was to grant further extension to the offshore casino licences to relocate their casino vessels from river Mandovi for a further period till an alternate feasible site is finalised by the government or till March 31, 2017, whichever is earlier.”

Besides the four offshore casinos, the Delta Pleasure Cruise Company Private Limited (owned by Jaidev Modi) has also been granted permission to operate the M V Royale Flotel in river Mandovi till March 31, 2017.

The government had promised to shift the casinos from the current venue at the River Mandovi by March 31. The alternate sites chosen had been the Aguada Bay and river Chapora, Sal and Zuari, but locals and opposition parties had raised huge objections crying loss of livelihood and corruption of youngsters as a result of the casinos.

Jasven ‘jasven06’ Saigal started off the week with a bang, final tabling the PokerStars ‘$1,050 Super Tuesday’ for $12,307.50 and capped it off with an impressive runner-up finish for INR 3.75 Lakhs in the inaugural KPC. Saigal exited the Super Tuesday, when opponent ‘The Mooks’ called with against his . The board opened and Saigal was out at eighth place. The 574-strong event was ultimately won by ‘AnyGameSir’ of Poland. For his highest score, Saigal makes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”.

Deltin Royale Poker Room Management Now By Vasim Rozani

Amin Rozani, who had taken over the Deltin Royale Poker room in late 2014, has now handed over the management baton to younger brother Vasim. Rozani is moving his focus towards broader marketing horizons and Vasim, who is himself a high-stakes player and has also been part of the team at events like the IPC, will now handle the day-to-day operations at the venue.

Poker is soon gaining respect as a sport and now if all things go as planned, the game will become a part of SportAccord, the umbrella organization for all Olympic and non-Olympic sports. The International Federation of Poker (IPF) is expected to be formally inducted as a member by SportAccord on April 22.

David Baazov, Brother & Accomplices Face Charges Of Insider Trading

David Baazov is in the news again, but for all the wrong reasons, as he has been charged with five counts for illicit trading. Baazov has denied any wrongdoing, but a few days later another report revealed that the authorities had evidence of Baazov passing privileged information to his brother, who in turn gave it to a mutual friend, with all benefitting to a tune of almost $1.5 million.

Robert Kuhn Wins WSOP Circuit Harrah`s Main Event

In a surprise win, Robert Kuhn pocketed the top prize of $122,098 at the WSOPC Harrah’s Main Event. In doing so, he claimed his first gold ring, while denying Ari Engel his eighth.

Jack Wu Wins ACOP Platinum Series XII Main Event

The twelfth installment of the ACOP Platinum Series concluded yesterday with the culmination of its eight scheduled events. The HK $5,500 Main Event was won by Jack Wu for HK $260,850; Wu outlasted the 241-player field that created a prize pool of HK $1,087,030. Wu was on a spree of cashes, as he also collected the title of the opening HK $2,000 Deepstack event for HK $42,640 and made a fifth place finish in Event 7 – HK 5,500 Megastack for HK $34,530.

Event 6 – HK $10,000 NLH drew 73 hopefuls, leading to a prize pool of HK $637,290. Saehoon Lee was the ultimate champion, taking home HK $210,310.

Xixiang Luo won Event 7 – HK 5,500 Megastack (HK $400,000 GTD) for HK $116,530, beating a field of 80 vying for a prize pool of HK $431,650.

APT Daegu

The first-ever APT Daegu has completed Day 2 of its Main Event and Russia’s Sergey Zasorin continued to lead the chip counts with 187,800. The event drew 52 entries competing for a piece of the KRW 25,800,000 prize pool. In all, the stop will play out 17 total events between March 23 to 31.

Keith Heine is Champion of MSPT Main Event

Keith Heine was the champion of the MSPT, $1,100 Main Event for $100,981. Heine, who had prior all-time career money record of just $12,000, overcame an entry field of 409, including notables to claim the title.

The action never halts in poker world and this past week its been the APT Asian Series Manila that has taken centre stage, especially with Team India putting in a marvelous performance. Before that however, India`s biggest tournament series i.e. India Poker Championship (IPC) is set to take off for its October edition from tomorrow, Oct 7 to 11. The 5-day series will feature four events and like last time Spartan Poker will be principal sponsors. The highlight of this edition will be the innovative hybrid ₹50K Highroller, which began online and will have its final table with live action in Goa during the series. After making two back-back cashes at the end of the week, Akash ‘proFISHnal’ Malik takes this week’s “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title. Malik made a total of $4,901 from two in the money finishes on Sunday.

The Black Money Act and its direct implications of foreign currency earnings through the use of e-wallets and virtual cards has affected many players, who have now begun to mask their tournament cashes. Hence, our online railbird report section is a lot shorter than it should be this week.

The WSOP Berlin is about to begin soon on Oct 8 and will run until Oct 24. Young Gun Arsh Grover will be taking part in the series and has already left for his maiden international Live poker tournament. A major story this week is the return of PokerStars to New Jersey, after Black Friday, when it had been banned for irregularities. Amaya has now received all regulatory approvals for resuming operations in the state. Another important news at PokerStars is a new change in its online rules that restricts the use of third party software.

Team India Makes Waves at APT Asian Series Manila 2015

The APT Asian Series Manila 2015 is now winding to a close and we saw some great performances by Team India at the series. Leading the pack was Kunal Patni, who is now a regular name on the Asian Circuit, with his numerous impressive cashes. Patni made a 4th place finish in Event 8 – NLH 1 for PHP 128,300 apart from a 14th place finish in the Event 5 – Head Hunter and a 9th place finish in the Opening Event APT-RWM 2M GTD.

After a lack-luster start to the series, Dhaval Mudgal made an impressive runners-up finish in the Event 7: OFC Pineapple Shootout and followed it up with a 15th place finish in Event 12 – PHP 5,500 WeLoveSport Deep Stack Turbo.

Pawan Bansal also scored an impressive 2nd place finish in Event 9 – Pot Limit Omaha Hi for PHP 150,000.

Raghav Bansal began the Main Event with full vigor making it to the top ten chip counts on Day 2, but he finally lost his tournament life at 16th place for PHP 16,7400 on Day 3. Paawan Bansal did even better, but unfortunately became the final table bubble and got eliminated in 9th place on Day 3 for PHP 334,700.

Indian Poker Championship Gets Underway Tomorrow

India`s biggest tournament series i.e. India Poker Championship (IPC) is set to take off for its October edition from tomorrow, Oct 7 to 11. The 5-day series will feature four events and like last time Spartan Poker will be principal sponsors. The highlight of this edition will be the innovative hybrid ₹50K Highroller, which began online and will have its final table with live action in Goa during the series. Delhi`s Gurpal Nanda is the leading the six finalists with 225,089 chips. PokerStars Returns To New Jersey, US

Amaya finally emerged victorious in its more than a year and half struggle to bring PokerStars and Full Tilt back to the United States. Despite stiff opposition from the Native Indian tribes and casino billionaire Adelson Sheldon, the company finally got all approval from the requisite New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE). The date for its return has not yet been announced, but as is mandatory, the company has tied up with Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City to begin operations.

PokerStars to Restrict the Use of Third-Party Software

PokerStars has made changes to its policy, which will restrain the use of third-party software and tools and these are expected to be implemented soon. Players will be allowed to utilize push/fold charts and similar tools, but there will be restrictions in what the HUDs will be allowed to display. A large section of the player community has come out in opposition to these changes.

Daniel Stacey Wins UKIPT Isle of Man

The UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event saw Daniel Stacey claim the title as well as the top prize of £24,170, after a deal with runner up Paren Arzoomanian, who collected £19,000 for his efforts.

Cambodian Government Approves Ten New Casinos

Looks like the gambling industry in Cambodia is going to get a bigger boost in the days to come as the government approved licenses for 10 new casinos in the third quarter of this year. This will bring Cambodia’s total number of licensed casinos to 75. In 2014, the country had only 59 casinos.

Although online gambling is officially prohibited in Cambodia, the government allows it inside casinos. Through this move, the government feels, Cambodia will become a more attractive investment destination for international casino operators.

The first-ever WSOPC €990 Main Event was won by local player Sergio Castelluccio for €114,100. Castelluccio also collected his first WSOP gold ring for outlasting an entry-field of 612 runners that included top international pros.

Ohio player Peter Vitantonio waded through a tough field of 393 players to win the 2015/2016 World Series of Poker Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club Main Event for $129,685. He also got his first gold ring with this win and a seat to the season-ending WSOP Global Casino Championship.

Kavish has been on a heater of sorts with several deep runs the last couple of weeks and his total cashes this week saw a big jump when he won $4,306.63 by placing 4th in the PokerStars ‘The Hot $75 [Turbo], $30K GTD’.

Claudio Di Giacomo Wins the PokerStars.IT IPT Nova Gorica 1 Season 5 Main Event

After two successful events of this season IPT San Marino and IPT Sanremo, the third event of the tour concluded recently with IPT Nova Gorica – Accumulator. Italy’s first poker tour is hosting its season 5 and two more stops remain before the season’s wrap.

The PokerStars.IT IPT Nova Gorica main event concluded on Aug 27th crowning Italian player Claudio Di Giacomo as the champion. Di Giacomo beat a field of 715 players in Nova Gorica, where the Italian Poker Tour generated a €436,937 prize pool. The Italian player took home a €90,000 first prize and the IPT trophy after he agreed a deal with his final two opponents. Di Giacomo’s heads up opponent was Team PokerStars Pro Pierpaolo Fabretti who took second place for €70,000. The final action saw Di Giacomo go all-in with [Kh] [9c] called by Fabretti with [7h] [7c]. That was the board: [9s] [4ch] [2h] [3h] [8s].

A businessman by profession, Claudio Di Giacomo is an Italian player who plays on PokerStars.it with the UserID “Cladigia”. IPT next stop will be in Sanremo 24 – 28 October 2013 for the fourth stop of Season 5 and satellites on PokerStars.it started on Monday 26th August.

Richard Thousand Wins the Horseshoe Poker Classic

The 2013 Horseshoe Poker Classic in Council Bluffs scheduled to run from Aug 17th – Aug 21st culminated with its main event, Horseshoe Poker Classic $1,000 Main Event. The event attracted a total of 126 players and after two days of action, Richard Thousand of Ankeny, Iowa emerged victorious to capture the $30,798 first-place prize and a Horseshoe Poker Classic trophy.

Despite the fact that Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Main Event overlapped the Horseshoe Classic, the event drew a good number of players including the well-known poker player Phil Mander (who finished 43rd at this year’s WSOP ME). In fact, the main event drew higher numbers as compared to last year when only 97 players registered for the event despite a lower buy in of $900 as compared to this year’s buy–in of $1,000.

The five event series had buy-in’s ranging from $150 to $1000 and at all the events apart from the main event, winners were crowned in one day. The winner of the main event emerged after two days of poker action where Richard Thousand defeated Thomas Lutjens heads-up for the title.

The Inaugural WPT Aplha8 Crowns Steven Silverman as the Champion

The first ever World Poker Tour Alpha8 $100,000 buy-in event, sponsored by ClubWPT.com, concluded at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Florida. WPT Alpha8 is an exclusive series of high-stakes, televised poker tournaments held at the most prestigious gaming resorts around the world and made its debut this year.

On Tuesday, the final nine players returned to play down to one final champion and after seven levels of action, Steven Silverman took down the event to win the prestigious championship title along with the $891,660 payday. Silverman defeated poker pro and chip leader of WSOP 2013 November Nine, JC Tran in heads-up play. The California-native, Tran earned $526,890 for finishing second in the Alpha8 event.

This year has been great for the Washington, DC poker pro, Silverman who won his second high roller event this year (In May, he won the €25,000 High Roller at the 2013 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final for €775,400).

The event attracted 18 players with the $100,000 buy-in, three of whom re-entered for an additional $100k. Four places in total were paid at this year’s WPT Alpha8.
