Sunday Online Railbird Report: Chadha, Bothra, Gujral & Purohit Enter the Millionaire’s Club; Mishra & Das Among Big Winners

Millionaire’s galore! That’s what November has been all about on Spartan Poker. A mind-boggling 12 players have become millionaires over the past few weeks on the site. From Anish ‘Illusionist’ Patra, Vikranth ‘borntrouble’ Varma, PokerGuru Ambassador Nadeem ‘blindgame’ Basha and Manish ‘thekid’ Lakhotia who banked seven-figure scores in The Millionaire Legends ₹2 Crores GTD, to PokerGuru Ambassador Gokul ‘Super Kings’ Raj, ‘JhingaLala’ and Divyank ‘mikkudiv’ Prasoon who joined the Millionaire’s Club in the SSS The Millionaire ₹1.5 Crores GTD, Spartan Poker had already doled out an astronomical ₹3.76 Crores in the first two Millionaire’s alone this month.

Last night, the final leg of the November Millionaire bonanza, The Millionaire X5 Edition ₹10 Lakhs GTD To Top 5 Players, came to an end and the top five players who walked away with ₹11.05 Lakhs each were ‘GODSENT’, ‘Tonkaaa’, PokerGuru Ambassador Arjanveer Singh ‘bazzingaa’ Chadha, Deepak ‘chimpoo’ Bothra and Raman ‘tathagat’ Gujral. While all five entrants played brilliantly to make it to the top, it was Chadha who truly stood out yesterday. The young pro was the only millionaire to score three times in the event, which included an incredible two final table scores (3rd for ₹11.05 Lakhs, 8th for ₹2.87 Lakhs and 217th for ₹9,945). However, championing The Millionaire X5 wasn’t enough for Chadha who went on to collect six more scores last night.

  • 10th for ₹51,185 in Spartan Poker’s Sunday SuperStack ₹35 Lakhs GTD
  • 31st for ₹15,600 in PokerBaazi’s BSS SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD
  • 53rd for ₹13,108 in PokerStars India’s Sunday Special – Progressive KO SE ₹20 Lakhs GTD
  • 47th for ₹11,318 in Adda52’s Mega Suits ₹25 Lakhs GTD
  • 56th for ₹8,088 in Adda52’s Big Slick ₹15 Lakhs GTD
  • 36th for ₹6,886 in Spartan Poker’s SVS #24 Main Event ₹10 Lakhs GTD

Chadha’s cumulative earnings at the end of the night stood tall at ₹15.08 Lakhs.

The other big event on Spartan Poker, the Sunday SuperStack ₹35 Lakhs GTD, saw Jyoti Ranjan ‘joey114114’ Nayak walk away with the top prize of ₹5.27 Lakhs. The Spartan Value Series (SVS) #24 Main Event ₹10 Lakhs GTD was dominated by ‘chitti3.0’ who took down the event for a payday of ₹2.09 Lakhs, after besting Myron ‘mehhhhh’ Pereira (runner-up for ₹1.33 Lakhs) heads-up. ‘Bholebabaa’ (SVS #25 Electric Big Daddy ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹97,450) and Piyush ‘BlackMamba’ Gaikwad (Ultimate PLO ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹47,537) won the other big events on Spartan Poker yesterday.

Poker Dangal has been a favored site for the low-mid stakes players since its inception, and last night the site hosted its largest guaranteed tournament ever – the Destiny Changer ₹25 Lakhs GTD. The event gathered a 454-strong entry field (307 unique and 147 re-entries), but it wasn’t enough to meet the advertised guarantee, leading to a massive overlay of ₹2.30 Lakhs. Online crusher Anant ’DragonWarrior’ Purohit came out on top to win an impressive ₹10 Lakhs. Purohit also scored in Spartan Poker’s SVS #25 Electric Big Daddy ₹5 Lakhs GTD (9th for ₹10,000) and PokerStars India’s Sunday Special – Progressive KO SE ₹20 Lakhs GTD (45th for ₹8,108).

Despite Spartan Poker stealing the attention of the majority of the domestic circuit, PokerBaazi too managed to pull in the crowds. Its flagship Sunday tourney – Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD – comfortably surpassed its offered guarantee, clocking in 520 entries (309 unique and 211 re-entries) and collecting ₹26 Lakhs in the prize pool. Anirban D ‘pottysingh’ Das, an immensely familiar name on the virtual felts outlasted another online regular Goonjan ‘gmtesting’ Mall in the heads-up (runner-up for ₹3.54 Lakhs), to lock in the ₹5.05 Lakhs first-place cash prize.

Despite finishing in second-place, Mall made up for it in PokerStars India’s Sunday Special – Progressive KO SE ₹20 Lakhs GTD, where he captured the title and top prize of ₹4 Lakhs. Like Chadha, Mall too posted multiple scores last night, which included deep runs in Spartan Poker’s The Millionaire X5 Edition (23rd for ₹44,200), Adda52’s Mega Suits (22nd for ₹18,863) and 9stacks’ The Joker (32nd for ₹9,000).

The other big-guarantee events on PokerBaazi’s schedule yesterday declared winners in Arsh ‘Button_Hai_Bro’ Grover (BSS MegaStack ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.28 Lakhs), Haider ‘Haider’ Madraswala (The Monster 6-Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.23 Lakhs) and ‘Kalibaba’ (BSS PLO ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹53,600).

Meanwhile, Akshay ‘youcantcallme’ Nasa (Sunday Special ₹10 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.90 Lakhs) and ‘vinaash’ (Sunday Warm-Up ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹41,666) shipped the other events on PokerStars India.

Continuing with its trend from last week, Adda52’s Mega Suits ₹25 Lakhs GTD yet again eclipsed its guarantee and registered a final prize pool of ₹25.15 Lakhs through 503 entries (297 unique and 206 re-entries). Ragesh ‘ragesh91’ Mishra decimated the field and claimed a hefty paycheque of ₹6.03 Lakhs in the process.

Abhishek ‘messi010010’ Gubba (Big Slick ₹15 Lakhs GTD for ₹2.74 Lakhs) and ‘thor86’ (Hexagram ₹2.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹65,696) shipped the other high-value Adda52 events.

Over at 9stacks, the Sunday mainstay tournament, The Joker ₹15 Lakhs GTD, was taken down by ‘OldMonkXXX’ who received ₹3.67 Lakhs for his win.

Fast-growing online poker site Khelo365 hosted four tournaments which were shipped by ‘udayanayak’ (Re Raise ₹2 Lakhs GTD Deepstack NLHE for ₹86,000), ‘financier’ (Big Bang ₹1 Lakh GTD NLHE for ₹47,300), ‘Chandermoon’ (Mega Splash ₹1 Lakh GTD NLHE for ₹43,000) and ‘Ajan’ (Deep Stack ₹60K GTD NLHE for ₹25,800).

This Week in Poker: August 7 – 13

In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring you the weekly roundup of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week’s top stories

With the Independence Day mere days away, this past week has been quite a liberating one. Perhaps embodying the spirit of the occasion, the Indian poker community came to together to boycott two signature Sunday tournaments on online poker site Adda52 – in protest of the site’s archaic TDS policy. The last-minute boycott may not have caused a considerable decline in numbers for the two major Sunday tournaments – Big Slick and Mega Suits – but it still managed to register an overlay.

While Adda52 indeed lost some of its regular players last Sunday, other poker operators reaped the benefits. PokerBaazi’s biggest Sunday event – the Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD – has always been a crowd-pleaser. Last Sunday the event saw a 10% spike in attendance with 547 entries (322 unique and 225 re-entries) as compared to the previous week’s 500 entries (315 unique and 185 re-entries). Seasoned pro Shravan ‘FishStars’ Chhabria topped the field to claim the title and top prize of ₹5.21 Lakhs, making him our “PokerGuru Star of the Week.”

PokerStars India’s weekly flagship event, the Sunday Special Progressive KO, finally surpassed the 300-entry mark, registering a total number of 301 entries (167 unique and 134 re-entries). This is the first time that the Sunday Special collected ₹15.05 Lakhs in prize pool since the event’s guarantee had been slashed from ₹20 Lakhs to ₹15 Lakhs. Tournament regular Pranay ‘aankhdikhatahai’ Chawla decimated the field, banking ₹3.57 Lakhs in first-place prize money.

Where Adda52 received a lot of criticism for its outdated TDS policy, PokerDangal announced its new player-friendly TDS policy that allows players to withdraw less than ₹10,000 three times in a day without any TDS being deducted.

Meanwhile, UMA Poker was one of the first online poker sites to announce an Independence Day-themed ‘Independence Day Survivor’ tournament. The ₹1,947 buy-in tournament will commence on August 15 at 6 PM, and the top 10 players are assured a min-cash of ₹73,000.

However, dark clouds seem to be looming over Goa`s Casino industry. After Chief Minister Pramod Sawant`s announcement that locals would be prohibited from entering onshore and offshore casinos, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has now decided to not renew the trade license of any offshore casino operating on River Mandovi next year onwards.

Moving on to the domestic gaming industry, the first-ever India Gaming Awards have been announced, and the awards ceremony will feature 16 categories in which nominees from the fields of Rummy, Poker, Casino and Fantasy Sports will be honored.

Gaming platform Paytm First Games recently raised approximately $25 Million (₹177 Crores) in funding which the company will be utilizing towards product development.

The first edition of the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series London wrapped up proceedings on August 8. One of the last events to crown a champion at the series was the £100K Short Deck Main Event which was taken down by American superstar Justin Bonomo who netted £2.67 Million for his win. Indian-origin pro Vivek Rajkumar had made it to Day 2 of the event but fell short of the money line.

With the partypoker MILLIONS Europe and Asian Poker League (APL) Hanoi Vietnam still ongoing and European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona (August 20-September 1) about to being soon, there is a lot of poker action to look forward to in the coming days.

Sunday Online Railbird Report: Nishaanth Shanmughasundaram, Anuj Yadav, Neel Joshi, Sumit Sapra & Arsh Grover Bank 6-Figure Scores

This past Sunday saw many established and upcoming names of the domestic poker fraternity rake in the big bucks! The frontrunner among the winners was Nishaanth ‘shanni’ Shanmughasundaram. A regular on PokerBaazi, his recent good form on the site saw him finish 14th place (for ₹1.19 Lakhs) in the PPL#31 The MoneyMaker ₹1 Crore GTD and place fourth (for ₹5.31 Lakhs) in PPL#20 HighRoller 6-Max ₹50 Lakhs GTD, in December last year. In the early hours of April 1, he tamed PokerBaazi’s mainstay Sunday event – Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD – after decimating a field of 635 entries (360 entries and 275 re-entries). Shanmughasundaram added ₹5.48 Lakhs to his bankroll.

Shanmughasundaram wasn’t the only player to win big in the BSS Superstack. Neel ‘Worm33’ Joshi and Sumit ‘boronyx’ Sapra were both a part of the Indian contingent at the second edition of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Vietnam. They may have bricked the series last week but made amends by finishing second and third, respectively, at this event on Sunday. Joshi pocketed ₹3.82 Lakhs, and Sapra walked away with ₹2.66 Lakhs.

Across the other Sunday tournaments on PokerBaazi, ‘dybalamask’ (The Monster 6-Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD (RE) for ₹1.12 Lakhs), Apocalypto (BSS PLO ₹5 Lakh GTD (RE – ₹1. 01 Lakhs), Kavish Narcos Kukreja (BSS Megastack ₹5 Lakh GTD for ₹98,250) and ‘msreal (Sunday ₹1 Lakh GTD (RE) for ₹17,800) claimed titles.

The Sunday Special Progressive KO ₹25 Lakhs GTD on PokerStars India witnessed a slight increase in attendance on the last Sunday of March with a total of 471 entries (286 unique and 185 re-entries). Anuj ‘brockLesnar95’ Yadav, who had last won this event on Oct 7, 2018, repeated the feat again yesterday and collected a well-deserved ₹4.89 Lakhs for his efforts. The final table was studded with prominent names and Yadav squared off against online regular Arsh ‘BiggggTymeR’ Grover. Grover is another familiar name, and someone familiar with the final table of the Sunday Special – his last final table appearance in this event had resulted in a runner-up finish to Sharad ‘sordykrd’ Rao on Dec 16 last year. Yesterday, he yet against placed second to Yadav, but was able to bag a cool ₹1.93 Lakhs in the process.

The other winners on PokerStars India’s Sunday schedule were ‘bhasm@sur1’ (Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹49,464), Mrinal -booy@h- Manna (The Classic ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹49,091), chand4295 (Sunday Storm ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹38,164), crossbreed21 (Sunday Supersonic ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹23,114) and Sagar119 (Sunday Warm-Up ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹21,892).

Several PokerGuru Team Ambassadors enjoyed a profitable day by running deep in various Sunday events. Jayjit ‘england’ Ray (14th for ₹33,973) and Laksh Pal boomtlt23 Singh (18th for ₹21,590) were seen in action in the BSS SuperStack on PokerBaazi.

Laksh Pal ‘B00MTilt23’ Singh also bagged a score in PokerStars India’s Sunday Special where he finished 28th for ₹28,700. Ratul ‘MuscariAs’ Steves (35th for ₹8,856) and Tathagata ‘RadioActivity’ Sengupta (62nd for ₹6,796) were the other two PokerGuru Ambassadors who made it past the money line. Meanwhile, Arjanveer Singh ‘ballistik310’ Chadha final tabled the Sunday Stars where he placed sixth for ₹10,987, while Vivek Mystic Peaks Singh finished seventh for ₹8,730 in The Classic.

Fast-growing online poker site, 9stacks, is on a roll!
