APT Cebu – Phillipines

February 9, 2012 in News

WOW!! The only word for CEBU!! The place, the people, the poker, the APT and of course the DEALERS – the best in the world (even according to “intervention”)…they are the cutest, fastest and the most precise dealers by far I have ever come across.

TBH we didnt spend much time going out during the day time as we were busy playing the APT events…but we pretty much went out every night…you just have to be there to experience the beauty of night life in Cebu.

I played all the events other than high rollers (100,000 Pesos). I bubbled the 5k – Event 1 in a field of 370+…very disappointing as I shoved 6.5 BB with k5o and got called by BB with AQo. According to intervention it is a bad shove and I should fold to the money but I disagree. I got a bad beat earlier for a 45+bb pot when my QQ were busted by 88, money all in pre.

After bubbling the Event 1, I immediately late reg into 5K – ME mega sat. The field was soft with more than half the players in a field of 45 playing there first satellite ever. I know this because there were many four-way pots with 2 all ins pre and players out of position betting with no pair no draw in a dry side pot. I won one of these pots, knocked 2 players out with flopped middle pair of Q with QJo. I pretty much folded my way to one ticket out of 4 after that. I made some friends as well on the table playing short-handed. I had no reason to party after a reasonably successful night.

After a long night, I barely woke up for ME Day 1a but I had to go in as I could only use the ticket for Day 1a. Not being rested well was probably one of the reasons of me busting the day1a early. I also think that I got a little over confident considering I had satellite my way in. The PokerGuru team missed Day 1a reaching after the late reg was closed other than Sammoh who made it just in time..

I was in disgust after busting ME but still motivated myself to play the 5K last chance mega sat to ME. At the end of late reg there were 88 players and whopping 9 seats awarded thanks to Bryan Huang (PS TP) covering the 10k short for the 9th seat. Again there was a similar ratio of first timers at a sat or the ones who just generally have no idea. I picked up a few hands early in the tournament and quadrupled my stack in less than 4 levels of blinds and then wet on lock down and folded my way to a ME ticket yet again! I was proud for a moment and then realized this is just a good start and there is a very long way to go. Being busted early in ME and then having another chance through the satellite was just perfect. I went back to the hotel and was ready to have an early night, as I didn’t want to have another tired start to such an important day. Unfortunately I had a little argument with one of the crew in the hotel and I do apologize for it.

During this event I have met a few good players and just good people in general.

I will cover the ME day 1b, Day 2 and the rest of the events I played later.

Now time to catch up on some sleep for the tonight’s 5k Event 1 of PGT season 2.

I hope to see you all there.

PGT Main Event Final Table!

December 26, 2011 in News

We played down till money for the final table to continue on Day 2. It was a 6.5 hour long marathon to be the last man standing. It was amazing to play a final table with a variety of players ranging from super nits, LAG players and a couple of pros including PokerStars qualifier Victor Duda. I was surprised to see Victor on the final table because he was down to 3 BB earlier in the tournament when I took most of his the chips on an allin river bet on a board of 89TJQddd. Victor called with K high straight and I took down the pot with a 7high Flush. He had done well to survive to reach the final table having one of the shortest stacks on the table. I was 3rd in chips and had position on Karan, the chip leader, and probably my only competition. Hussain was 2nd in chip lead and was on Karan’s immediate right. I had pre decided to avoid Karan in most situations. So for a few rounds karan and I dominated the table mostly taking down pots preflop. Maddy got eliminated quickly and then Victor lost his KK to Karan’s AA. Now we were down to 6 with Karan still in the chip lead with Hussain 2nd. The plan of coming heads up with Karan was working perfect with me getting involved in a very few spots and almost no show downs whatsoever. I got my first double up on the table by calling Karan’s (D) 4 bet shove with JJ on SB. 6 handed lasted for longer than 4 hours where chips were exchanging hands. No body was ready to put there tournament life on the line. And no body was ready to give anyone else a double up. Everyone was becoming short stack because of blinds climbing. During this Karan eliminated Abbas in 5th. Karan not long after, made an amazing call against Raj with KQ and Raj showed down K4o to spike a 4 and get a double up. Hussain tried similar from button with A2, I called him with 55 to eliminate him at 4th position. It was down to the last three. Me and Karan had even chips and Raj coming third with 10BB stack. During 3 handed I called Karan’s KQ 4 bet shove with A4o to eliminate him. Raj had a very small stack and didn’t last long in heads up battle. It was an amazing felling to be the main event champion. I received an awesome trophy made from silver from Samohhh the defending PGT champion.

I am very proud to have won the main event outlasting one of the toughest fields in India. I look forward to be part of the next PGT event in February.

PokerGuru Tour – Goa December 2011

December 14, 2011 in News

It all started on Thursday 8th December with the 50k 6-max High rollers event. I had managed to win a seat from a 10K rebuy mega live satellite by knocking out 8th and 9th place with KQ when I was dominated with AJ and QQ with a K on the river. I did manage to spend 40k in rebuys and add-on, so still a 10k SAVINGS!! I had a tough table to start the tournament on Thursday with PokerGuru team Pros Raman “RDX” Gujral and Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal on seat 1 and 2, me in seat 3. Seat 4 and 5 were regulars and seat 6 was occupied by PokerStars online qualifier Johannes Jansen. With that many pros on the table I was sure to see some good action even in early stages of the tournament. I saw a perfect example of this in the first round of blinds with Intervention 4 betting Pavana from UTG. Flop was Q high, Intervention check raised and 4 bet allin with KK and was beaten by Pavana’s top set of QQ. Anyway, Intervention was left with few hundred chips and was moved to a different table. I ran into Johannes and Pavana a few times and was just managing to keep my stack about the same as the starting stack. The players fell quickly in early stages and we were down from 5 tables to 3 in the first 2 hours. I was card dead pretty much the whole night and managed to bust out in 13th position ☹

Next day was the 5k rebuy event in which I managed to invest about 40k again but no deep run here either. I did play some cash and recovered most of my losses from the first 2 events. After a good night sleep I was back with the whole PokerGuru Team to play the 25k freeze out Main Event.

Main Event had 77 Entrants and a first prize of 700k and an amazing trophy to go with it. This was a good motivation to exploit the deep blinds structure and make the final table. I picked up good spots to accumulate chips with almost no showdowns. I had managed to get a double up by making a nut flush on the river, the opponent was not ready to fold top pair. Not long after I was caught bluffing by one of the tightest players around, surprisingly he wasn’t holding the nuts this time and called me down with just top pair. I lost about 40% of my stack and that’s when I slowed down and started playing super tight. But after having no cards for a the whole 2 rounds and playing no hands, I had developed a tight image so I started opening in good spots and managed to steal and win few small pots. I was involved in a pot with online qualifier Victor Duda who was in the BB. I raised from Dealer with 74d, both SB and BB called. Flop was 8 9 10 rainbow with one diamond. Checks around, turn is a Q of diamonds, check around again. River is a gin card J of Diamonds and I make my flush. Check around to me and I open shove all in about 60BB and Victor tank called me with a K high straight. So, I managed to get a double up just before the break. We were down to three tables at the end of first break and I had a comfortable stack of about 100BB with 60k in. We were back from the break and I was moved to a different table. Not long after joining the new table I had raised from middle position to 3x with 77s. I got 3 bet and I ended up going all in pre flop to get snap called by AAs. I flopped a 7 and took down a massive pot to put me in top 3 chip counts. From hereon I played very tight and didn’t make any moves. On the other table Michael busted 2 players at once and were down to final table of 9. 8 got paid and hence it was also BUBBLE time. Jagadeesh was very short stacked and shoved with A5 and got called by Victor with QQ. The bubble was busted and we broke for Day 2. I finished the day with 108,500 and 3rd in chips behind Karan and Hussain.

Final table to be continued in Part B

What a start to GOA!! This is my first time in Goa ever and within being here for less than 12 hours, I had won 15K side event of the IPC series. I was never even thinking of playing the tournament till “Sammoh” mentioned he was going to play for sure. I late registered the tournament around 10PM at blinds 100/200 Ante 25 and received 8500 as the starting stack. Thanks “Sammoh” for sorting my buy-in. I sat down and lost a couple of hands raising pre-flop and then making C-bets only to get called. So, In the first 15 mins, I was down to 5800. Not a lot to worry but I re paced my self and used information from the loosing hands to get ahead. Not long later I got a few decent hands and won couple of 2K-3K pots and I had about 15K in about an hour into the tournament. I was picking my spots carefully, used the loose image I had gained by being part of the action a lot in the first hour of the tournament. I managed to pick another couple good hands when the other person was trying to make a move. I guess I got a lot lucky in the tournament considering Woke up with AAs twice KKs and QQs in the blinds a e few times throught the tournament. Most of the cards played themselves out and I managed to maintain and chip my stack right the way through by stealing blinds and calling in position.

Final Table was pretty sick, one of the craziest and toughest I have played so far. I entered the final table as a chip leader very close to second. Everyone else was medium to short stack. I managed to mainatain the chip lead all the way through to 3 players remaining. Most played tight and I tried to be part of most action. The 2nd chip leader avoided me in most pots and I took as much advantage as possible. Because I was raising often, I did get caught with making value calls when a short stack shoves on my standard stealing raise. I doubled Manisha Lamba (finshed 4th) 4-5 times and Anish Dedia (runner-up) 4-5 times. After knocking most of he table out we were down to 3. Anish climbed up to chip leader before we went for a final break. Soon after being back, I had given to beats knocking both players out one by one when I was behind both times when the money went all in. Yay!! VERY LUCKY!! But again you have to get lucky to win tourneys. I believe it was a grat run of cards with some good quality poker. Nevertheless, I enjoyed a lot playing my first time in GOA and winning my first major event.

I would like to thank PokerGuru team – Adi, Sammoh, Polly & Bhalla for showing me the best part of GOA. I have literally fallen into the deep end of poker hub of GOA and I am absolutely loving it. I have been made like I am at home but just a little better. I hope being part of this group, I am not only going to improve my game but gain a few life time friends.

After I had an early exit from the 30K IPC Main-Event yesterday I played a little bit of cash game. I had the best ever cash game session. Now, with a few wins under my belt I am looking forward to the PokerGuru Tour – PGT first ever season. The best part is that these tournaments are RAKE FREE!!
