Hello Poker Family!
What a last few surreal weeks it has been. The 2nd wave of COVID-19 has crippled us as a nation, especially during April, and it seemed relentless.
In Maharashtra, at one point, it felt like the newly infected numbers were on a non-stop upward trajectory.
Thankfully, due to the imposed lockdowns, the situation does seem to get better. The following month will show us a pretty stark reflection on how we mass-managed our response to a pandemic.
The poker community also jumped in to do its part, which was very pleasant to see. Voluntary giveaways by players, organized donations by many sites, it felt like everyone did their bit.
Most importantly, it started to feel like more and more of us began to understand the importance of “safety begins at home.”
Not going out unnecessarily, donning double masks when there is an absolute need to go out. Keeping your near & dear ones informed & safe, and keeping the morale high amid the grim reality outside.
A post-mortem of how the situation was handled by those in power is warranted and would be nice to see, but sadly it feels like wanting to see something that isn’t tangible.
A sense of normalcy could be derived from the always upbeat poker community here, which kept on churning through the daily and weekly events and helped many players like me be at home and do what we love to do. I was in the thick of the action too, and my strategy revision from a few months ago finally started to deliver some good results. It helped me keep my focus on learning every day & trust the process.
The next month may bring us some relief from the pandemic, but I believe it will be a whole 10-12 months before we can say we’ve started to beat the virus. Vaccination is our only hope.
Until then, I hope you all stay safe & this community does not lose any more precious lives to this pandemic.
Take care of yourself, your family & your friends.
