Who hasn’t heard of Siddhanth Kripalani? The 27-year-old has been wreaking havoc on the virtual felts over the past two years. So much so that we canvassed his journey as one of our Young Guns in May. Name any online marquee tourney, and chances are Kripalani has won it at least once, or at the very least, final-tabled it. From taking down the Game Changer 3.0 title to winning the IOPC The Millionaire United, Kripalani has a litany of flagship titles under his belt.

Kripalani hit a new career milestone on Sunday when he took down PokerBaazi’s ₹5 Lakhs GTD (7-Max) BSS SPRINT to cross the ₹5 Crore-mark in online winnings, earning himself a Super Achiever badge! Talking about his achievement, Kripalani humbly says, “It feels good. Just trying to keep playing and keep being consistent. It doesn’t really mean anything special. It’s just about continuing, making the profit, just continuing to play well and being consistent.

Given that the Mass Media graduate from MMK College in Bandra only began playing poker professionally during the lockdown last year, haven accumulated over ₹5 Crores in online MTTs with an equally impressive ₹2.21 Crores in profits is quite the achievement indeed!

Even though it’s been a little over a year that he’s been playing poker professionally, Kripalani is mature enough to have worked out the importance of maintaining a balance between life both on and off the felts. “I started playing professionally full-time last year, during the lockdown. That’s when I actually learned what it takes to play poker. Just the long hours and amount of study you put into it. Ever since then, I have been trying to balance everything out – my poker life and my life of the tables. So, this year has been mostly about balancing my life off the tables. Because I feel that if you just keep playing poker, you will get burned out eventually. So, to achieve that longevity, to be able to play for five years, six years, seven years, I am trying to balance my life off the tables.

Interestingly, Kripalani had won one of his first online titles on PokerBaazi, the PMVS Main Event. His career-biggest score of ₹40.02 Lakhs that he secured after winning the Game Changer 3.0 was also on PokerBaazi. And his latest feat of joining the ‘₹5 Crores Club’ also happened after he won the (7-Max) BSS SPRINT (no points for guessing) on PokerBaazi. Needless to say, India’s most trusted online poker site has indeed been good for him!

PokerBaazi has been very good to me. I run good on their site. I don’t know what it is. But yeah, I like that site. My biggest score has come on that site. In fact, one of the first tournaments I won, which was the PBBS Main Event, was also on that site. PokerBaazi has been good,” he candidly adds.

PokerBaazi is all set to kick-off 2022 with a bang with the brand-new ‘PokerBaazi Classics,’ and we asked Kripalani what preparations he will undertake for the upcoming series. “No sort of specific preparations. Just continue with your normal schedule. Be in a calm mindset before you start playing. Don’t let your day be too hectic before you start playing so that your mind is in ten different places. Just take 3-45 minutes before the session to get focussed, and then just start playing and make your best decisions.

There can be no denying that this Mumbai lad has made quite a mark for himself in the industry within a relatively short time. But he is also astute enough to recognize that the domestic circuit is ever-expanding. He also acknowledged the need to constantly adjust one’s gameplay to remain ahead of the curve. “There have been a lot of new players this year, and it has been tough to adjust. I am also learning how to make adjustments to my own game and other’s perception of my own game. So, that’s something even I have been learning this year, to get better at it next year. Let’s see how it goes.

An avid football lover, not many would know that Kripalani plays the sport semi-professionally. “Football has been my no. 1 passion since I was a kid. Initially, I wanted to be a professional football player. I play for the Young Guns FC club currently. Ever since I was 14, I have been playing football. I have always played competitively. Even now, I play on a semi-professional level. So, I try to keep up with that and poker. They are complete opposites. For football, you need to wake up early in the morning, and for poker, you need to stay up late in the night. So, that’s also been fun. I hope to play competitively for as long as possible.

He also acknowledged the importance of physical exercise and its impact on one’s gameplay. “If you incorporate physical exercise into your lifestyle, it just makes you mentally stronger. There are days when you don’t want to get up and work out, or you don’t want to get up and do something. But when you go and do it, it just increases your mental strength. I feel if you apply discipline in certain areas of your life, it automatically transforms onto the table.

While Kripalani has already established himself in online MTTs, his aim is now to make it to the world’s biggest and most glamourous poker stage – World Series of Poker (WSOP)! “2022 (Las) Vegas is on the cards. I have to see how it goes before that. But yeah, I think I’ll make it there.

He signs off with some encouraging words for upcoming poker players, “For the new players who are coming – don’t get carried away by your emotions. Take it easy. Every day is a new day. Listen to people who are more experienced. Listen to your mentors who you have around you. Bankroll management, discipline, hard work – all the things they say, just try to understand what they are saying. Just take it one day at a time. Work hard, and it’ll come to you.

A BIG shoutout to Siddhanth Kripalani on his recent achievements, and we hope to see him crossing more milestones in the near future!
