Winning an all-expenses paid package to the EPT Sochi Main Event on PokerStars India

For the last few months I have been performing rather well on the online felts and have also posted several scores on premier sites such as PokerBaazi and PokerStars India.

Earlier this week, I had participated in the EPT Sochi NLHE Main Event Qualifier Satellite on PokerStars India. I was actually playing the satty for a second time. In fact, I had almost forgotten about it and it was my flatmate ‘England’ aka Jayjit Ray who actually reminded me of the same . I managed to late register and maintained a decent stack through the tournament.

During the final two tables , I lost a big pot and became the shortest stack. But I did not lose hope but somehow fought my way into the final table with just 9 big blinds.

Thereafter, I kept winning flips and waltzed into the heads-up play against Pranay ‘AankhDikhatahai’ Chawla with a 3.5:1 chip lead. I tried to implement all that I have learnt from my mentor Adi [Aditya Agarwal] in the last 7-8 months into play. All the guidance that I received from him helped me build up my chip lead against Chawla and some much-needed luck did not hurt either.

I got really lucky on the final hand when my 66 were up against Chawla’s pocket TT. Both of us went all-in preflop where I clipped a 6 on the river and shipped the event.

It was an amazing feeling! The package I won not only included an entry to the EPT Sochi Main Event, but also offered a seven-nights accommodation for two at the Sochi Marriott Krasnaya Polyana hotel and up to ₹40,000 for other expenses. I am really excited and am looking forward to my first international poker tour.

To be honest, once the daze of victory had subsided the next morning, I really got thinking and realized that only by posting a good score in Sochi will I actually be able to make this profitable in a real sense. Since then I have doubled down on studying and I have been taking regular instructions from Adi to improve my game.

Speaking of Adi, his guidance has been of immense help to me. I have no words to describe what an incredible learning experience it has been.
